It would use It would use a regex to add a taxonbar before either Template:Authority control (if present), DEFAULTSORT (if present and AC not present), or categories. The tracking category is set up to only populate with pages with linked Wikidata items with some constraints. The regex is from User:Tol/Regex#AWB3.

to get the Wikidata QID. It would not add the parameter if no Wikidata item is linked. It would maintain a log of pages that do not have linked Wikidata items, which it would edit after each weekly run. This is similar to Task 4 (BRFA). The regex is from User:Tol/Regex#AWB3.

editAdd |from=

- Does this actually result in a visual change (other than a maintenance category being removed)? ProcrastinatingReader (talk) 09:36, 18 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
- @ProcrastinatingReader: No. Due to Wikipedia:Bot policy#Cosmetic changes, I would probably have to run this bundled with non-cosmetic changes similar to AWB's general fixes. Tol (talk | contribs) @ 21:32, 18 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
- Well, what exactly is the point of adding
|from=
in the first place? ProcrastinatingReader (talk) 23:54, 18 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]- @ProcrastinatingReader: I'm not entirely sure. According to Category:Taxonbars without from parameter, it's "to facilitate persistent tracking of Wikidata changes". I'm pinging Tom.Reding, who created the category and added that explanation. Tol (talk | contribs) @ 02:49, 19 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
- @Tol: Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/Tom.Bot 2 tried to do this, but it resolved itself faster than the approval process. It's unlikely that this category will ever grow to a size requiring a bot run. ~ Tom.Reding (talk ⋅dgaf) 10:24, 19 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

- I'm going to consider myself involved here, as it seems this is something involving Tom.Reding and AC-related templates, but I recommend a decline as (per the above) there has been no convincing rationale provided that this task is actually "useful", as required by WP:BOTREQUIRE. There are also the comments at the (effectively declined) BRFA linked above. ProcrastinatingReader (talk) 14:13, 19 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
- @ProcrastinatingReader: Alright. Based on the wording in the category, it did seem that there was some point to adding the parameter. I was going to later request approval for this task to add taxonbars to articles without them; it now looks like that's all the task will do. I'll work on getting that half ready.
