Vampires Are Alive

"Vampires Are Alive" was a Swiss entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2007. Since Switzerland's entry in 2006, "If We All Give a Little", didn't reach the top ten, "Vampires Are Alive" was entered in the semi-final of the contest on 10 May 2007. While it came 2nd place in the OGAE, it failed to qualify for the final, obtaining a score of 40 points (Natalia Barbu of Moldova, last to qualify, obtained a score of 91 points).

ControversyEdit

In March 2007, the conservative Swiss Christian party Federal Democratic Union of Switzerland filed a petition with almost 50,000 signatures to withdraw this song from the contest. They accused the song of Satanism and emphasized that it could be misleading and even encourage teenage suicide. Nevertheless, "Vampires Are Alive" entered the Swiss charts at number three.
