The son of former player and manager Vítor Manuel, he was born in Coimbra during his father's coaching spell at Académica. He played in the youth teams of Académica until 2001, and retired as a footballer in 2008 to start a coaching career. In 2009, he became assistant coach to Augusto Inácio in Interclube, Naval and Leixões, before joining the staff of Sérgio Conceição in Olhanense in 2011. He followed Conceição through various clubs, including a seven-season spell at Porto from 2017 to 2024.[2]
On 6 June 2024, Vítor Bruno assumed his first ever head coaching role, taking over the position of Porto manager from Conceição, who left the club at the end of the 2023–24 season.[3]
