Licenses

edit

Hi, just wanted to say thanks for all of you great contributions lately. You've upload quite a few images with the {{PD-USGov}} license tag. I just wanted to let you know that there is a more specific license tag for navy works. While you are correct and these images are public domain images because they have been produced by the Navy, I just thought it might be useful to let you know of the more specific tag that exists. It is {{PD-USGov-Military-Navy}} I have updated the license to the image you uploaded at Image:Uss_Nantucket_1862.jpg. Thanks again -- malo (tlk) (cntrbtns) 18:13, 19 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Images

edit

Hi. Welcome to Wikipedia, and specifically to Wikipedia:WikiProject Ships. Good work on all those monitors. In case you're not yet aware, PD images can be uploaded to http://commons.wikimedia.org/ , where they're easily available to all language versions of Wikipedia. —wwoods 21:48, 4 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Ship disambig dates

edit

Not a big deal, but according to Wikipedia:Naming conventions (ships), USS Ajax (1869) should be at "USS Ajax (1864)":

"If no hull number is available, use the ship's year of launching if known — like human birthdays, every ship has one — otherwise some other appropriate initial date, such as commissioning, or the date she is first mentioned in the historical record"

Are you related to Carl Johnson?

Yes, are you? Zurel Darrillian 18:52, 24 March 2006 (UTC) . I am related to the Van Deusens, turn on your email so we can write each other. I just found him in the census, now that you gave his fathers name. Its Fred and Eubella, and Carl was listed as "Carljean". Your new article accepted for Did you know?

edit

Gretings: The following inadvertently sent to my talk, so here I forward it to you - Leonard G. 02:23, 17 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Did you know? has been updated. A fact from the article USS Spuyten Duyvil (1864), which you recently created, has been featured in that section on the Main Page. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the "Did you know?" talk page.

Thank you, I appreciate having my article nominated and accepted to the main page (now I just wish I would have had time to finish it!!) Zurel Darrillian 12:53, 17 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Pardon me!

edit

Thanks for pointing out that the text is actually public domain (the Google search I did only showed the one site). However, we do then need to list that site specifically as a reference. SchuminWeb (Talk) 13:49, 11 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

ArbCom elections are now open!

edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Proposed deletion of USS Yazoo (1865)

edit

The article USS Yazoo (1865) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Fails WP:DEPTH and WP:GNG.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
