User talk:Zappa.jake/admin coaching

Latest comment: 17 years ago by Zapptastic in topic New RfA

Hey everyone who is admin coaching me, especially Petros Eric. So yeah, throw discussion at me here. Watchlist it. Thanks, zappa.jake (talk) 04:37, 12 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

I'm currently coordinating admin coaching- not doing all of it myself :) Two coaches, User:EWS23 and Kimchi.sg seem to be free now, I've dropped them a note pointing them towards this page. Let me know if you have any questions. Cheers, Petros471 11:01, 19 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi zappa! Did you have any ideas in mind of where you would like to start? EWS23 (Leave me a message!) 19:15, 19 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hey! I don't have any certain ideas, wherever you think I need help I guess... -zappa.jake (talk) 01:43, 20 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
Well, if you're referring to helping you pass your next RfA, we can go over your first RfA and talk about all the various things voters at RfA like to look at. The other main thing we could discuss is policy and procedure, and only you know what you do or do not know about such things. On this front, we could give you some suggested reading, or do some example scenarios for you to test your knowledge, or we could simply have a discussion about a policy or two that you might need some clarification on. Are you currently more interested in RfA issues or policy issues? Or perhaps something else Wikipedia-related altogether? EWS23 (Leave me a message!) 01:49, 20 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
Well, I would love to know more about what I don't know, unfortunately, I don't know what I don't know. Some example scenarios sound fun though. I'll also be back in a minute and list reasons for oppose votes, and cross off what I think I've taken care of, and then discuss what I don't yet have down. Thanks, zappa.jake (talk) 04:09, 20 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Welcome back edit

Hey, glad to see you're back from your Wikibreak. A couple of things: first of all, I got your vandal over at WP:AIV. [1] ;o) Blocked him for 48 hours for vandalism and personal attacks. Secondly, I saw your work on this page. While I really appreciate your enthusiasm, many of those people listed there don't vote regularly any more, and I think we should focus more on getting you the knowledge and experience that an administrator needs, rather than focusing on whether you would pass an RfA (don't worry, I have a pretty good feel for how RfA is working nowadays, I won't send you out there to be eaten by the wolves). :o) Anyway, hopefully we can get the coaching going again sometime soon. Hope all is going well. EWS23 (Leave me a message!) 20:03, 3 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

You make a good point. I guess what I meant by that page is more just, is people's issues resolved with me? By simulating a vote, I am sorta looking at it and saying, what do these people think of me? I see where you're coming from - thanks for the input on that. I got a good idea of what I was trying to get, so I'm going to stop with that page. Anyways, I recently have become more active in vandal-whacking - I finally got VandalProof! Couldn't before - I run a Mac, but I put Windows on it now, via Boot Camp, so I'm up and running. Fun stuff. Thanks, zappa.jake (talk) 20:08, 3 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
Cool. I've never used VandalProof myself, but I've heard lots of good things; you'll have to let me know what you think of it. I know from your previous RfA that you have some experience in New Pages patrol, and I've been thinking about putting together several examples of what you may find while helping clear out CAT:CSD, just to brush up on your knowledge of speedy deletion criteria. Hopefully I can put those together soon, so long as you don't have any objections. EWS23 (Leave me a message!) 20:15, 3 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
No, that's cool with me. Recently I have been going through the new pages, looking at their creators, and if they have a blank talk page, welcoming them. I think I've welcomed like 200 people in the last three days. Just today I made my own welcome template, tell me what you think of it. Thanks, later, zappa.jake (talk) 20:17, 3 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

New RfA edit

I'm considering a new RfA. This is sorta what motivated me to nominate myself before, is doing work that would be expedited and easier with admin tools. Someone created a page with only the work FUCK written over and over again. I tagged the page for deletion, which I could've just deleted myself, and saved myself and another admin time. I warned the user, but in case he continues his vandalism, I would like the ability to temporarily block him. It's just that I really know I'm able to use them correctly, and I see them being a benefit to me, and to the other admins, thereby benefitting the whole community I believe. If you think I'm still not ready, or think I would fail in my request, I won't go, but if you think I'm ready and would pass, a nomination would be nice. Let me know your thoughts. -zappa.jake (talk) 06:33, 17 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Example: it's been 13 minutes since I speedy-nominated the FUCK page for deletion, and it's still not gone. -zappa.jake (talk) 06:39, 17 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi! My apologies for the slow response. (As you may or may not have noticed by my talk page, I was on Wikibreak.) If I recall correctly, your last RfA ended somewhere around the 1st of June. Since some voters seem to think that anything shorter than 3 months between RfAs is too short, we should probably wait until September 1 at the earliest. I'll take a look at your contributions and see what I think when I get a little time. In the meantime, here are a couple of tips and quick observations:
  • Take the time to go through the administrator's reading list if you haven't already done so. Make sure you're acquainted with all the necessary policies, and bring whatever questions you may have, no matter how big or small, here.
  • You could definitely use some more Wikipedia and Wikipedia talk edits. I recommend participating at WP:RFA and WP:AFD (or, if you prefer, WP:TFD, WP:IFD, and WP:RFD). For Wikipedia talk edits, you can put a lot of policy pages you're interested in on your watch list (such as Wikipedia:Vandalism) and participate in discussions that pop up there. You might also want to check out WP:CENT.
Hope all this helps, and I'll do a more detailed analysis of other RfA such things when I have more time. Cheers, EWS23 (Leave me a message!) 07:37, 20 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
Saw you were on wikibreak, no problem. Recently, I've been racking up a ton of User talk edits, as I've been on welcome patrol a ton. I have my own welcome template, and you can find a ton of new users with blank talk pages at Special:Newpages. I've been welcoming them, and some of the time, they've been asking me questions at my talk page, as you can see in about the last ten topics at my talk page and its archive. I definitely agree that I could use more project, project talk, and article talk edits. Every opportunity I see, I try to comment something on an article, but if nothing needs fixing, or there's no problems, or the problem can be fixed with a tag, it's hard to do. Same goes for project edits - I'm really just fine with the policies as they are. I do check out WP:RFA just about daily, but it's hard for me to vote one way or another for someone I haven't personally worked with. Most of the time, the users I feel confident to vote on, my vote would just be a WP:SNOWBALL anyways. As an admin, I can see myself getting a lot more project edits, but for now, it really is difficult - I'm working at it though! My edit summary usage is 100%. I've looked through the reading list many times (okay, like, not many, but at least a couple), but I'll go through it again. I'll ask with any questions I have. So, tell me what you think, and throw me an excercise if you think I need more practice with anything. So how was your wikibreak? Go anywhere? Thanks a lot for this, I appreciate it all a ton, Zapptastic (talk) 07:49, 20 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
PS: What do you think of my new username? I just didn't want my real name as my username anymore. It could be really easy still for a vandal to find it out, but now, hey, it's just a tad harder I guess. -Zapptastic (talk) 07:51, 20 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

So, what do you think? I've been a bit busy in real life lately, but I'm back to normal now. First week of school, sorta stressful. Anyways, let me know what you think. Later, Zapptastic (talk) 04:31, 30 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Apologies for the delays edit

Hey. I'm sorry I've been so inactive with our admin coaching recently. There's been way too much stuff going on IRL, some of which I'd rather not put on the wiki. If you send me an email, I'd be happy to tell you all the details, but please know that I'm not just blowing you off. I'm not sure how much time I will have for Wikipedia in the next few weeks (could be a lot, could be a little), but I'll probably try to start a rough draft of an RfA nomination for you. I saw that you were getting some project-space and project talk edits at WP:RFD and a few other places. Please keep that up, those are crucial to a good run at adminship. Thanks for all your patience. EWS23 (Leave me a message!) 16:18, 31 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

No problem - I totally understand. It happens all the time. I'm assuming you drafting a RfA nom means that you think I'm good for another shot. If you need help writing it up, whatever, let me know. Good luck with whatever's going on in real life! Later, Zapptastic (talk) 20:45, 31 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Username change edit

I've changed my username from Zappa.jake to Zapptastic. Now I've reregistered Zappa.jake, and marked it as a sock puppet of Zapptastic. Do you think I should move this and all the other admin coaching pages, or should I leave them here? -Zapptastic (talk) 20:41, 17 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

I myself would prefer not moving the pages, because it's a hassle. Sorry for not being here earlier - image deletion was too "fun" and kept me occupied. Kimchi.sg 07:45, 20 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
No problem! Glad to see you're here! Check out what me and Eric have been up to, it's been eventful. -Zapptastic (talk) 07:50, 20 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
