To Whom It May Concern:

The biographical article on Bernie Sanders states: he "works on Rosh Hashanah, a day when Jews typically take a holiday from work." I believe the day to which the article refers is not Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year which takes place over the course of two days, but Yom Kippur, the Jewish Day of Atonement, which is the holiest day in the Jewish calendar except for the weekly sabbath. It was the refusal by Sandy Koufax, a Jewish pitcher for the Brooklyn Dodgers, to pitch the first game of the 1965 World Series which took place on Yom Kippur that caused a public furor.
