Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because it appears to be mainly intended for publicity and/or promotional purposes. If you intend to edit constructively in other topic areas, you may be granted the right to continue under a change of username. Please read the following carefully.
Why can't I edit Wikipedia?

Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, website or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. The edits may have violated one or more of our rules on spamming, which include: adding inappropriate external links, posting advertisements and using Wikipedia for promotion. Wikipedia has many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, but such groups are generally discouraged from using Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.

Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?

Probably not, although if you can demonstrate a pattern of future editing in strict accordance with our neutral point of view policy, you may be granted this right. See Wikipedia's FAQ for Organizations for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. Also, review the conflict of interest guidance to see the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, organization, or clients. If this does not fit in with your goals, then you will not be allowed to edit Wikipedia again.

What can I do now?

If you have no interest in writing about some other topic than your organization, group, company, or product, you may consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

If you do intend to make useful contributions here about some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

  • Add the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} on your user talk page.
  • Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
    • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
    • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} below, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first.

By turning an eight year old article into a piece of spam, you nearly got it deleted. Kindly have the decency to leave editing this article to experienced editors with no COI. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 22:40, 22 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Request reason:

I understand why I have been blocked and I am going to be totally honest about the circumstances surrounding the editing I completed. I am a new employee of Whiteley Village (or The Whiteley Homes Trust). I completely understand Wikipedia's stance on COI, however when researching Whiteley Village before I commenced work here, I saw that the information on the page was sparse, outdated and not really relevant to Whiteley Village. My aim was to improve the page and give readers a better idea of what Whiteley Village is about. I thought it made sense for someone with great knowledge on an area to edit this page, rather than people who have never been here and are basing their edits on information they have read on the internet. As a new employee, I felt I was extremely careful to keep my language neutral and not to promote Whiteley Village in anyway. I believe all the information I posted was factual, and I welcome any evidence of 'biased' language in my edit. I also understand the name 'Whiteley PR' is against Wikipedia rules, however this account was created a long time ago by an ex-employee and I was given this log in to complete my work. I would be extremely happy to change the name to fit in with Wikipedia's guidelines. I also understand that it was wrong of me to use Whiteley Village's website as a reference for my edits. After being blocked and re-reading the guidelines I am aware of my error. There are plenty of third party sources other than the website that would back up all the information I added to the Whiteley Village page. For example, http://www.demos.co.uk/files/Demos_CORC_report.pdf?1409673172 (see page 128, box 6). I am sorry for not following the Wikipedia guidelines, my only intention was to improve the page giving an accurate representation of Whiteley Village for the benefit of everyone using Wikipedia. Decline reason:

You appear to be slightly confused about your present circumstance. Allow me to clarify. In order for you to be unblocked, you will need to agree not to edit any subject where you have a conflict of interest, and agree to change your username. PhilKnight (talk) 18:59, 1 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
