There have been two problems with this account: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business or other organisation or group or a web site, which is also against policy, as an account must be for just one person. Because of those problems, the account has been blocked indefinitely from editing. Additionally, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for your contributions to Wikipedia, you must disclose who is paying you to edit.

If you intend to make useful contributions about some topic other than your business or organisation, you may request an unblock. To do so, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:CentralAuth to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy. Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In that reason, you must:

  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block. To do so, please read the guide to appealing blocks, then add the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page, replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason for thinking that the block was an error, and publish the page. Request reason:

Please unblock this account, this is a personal account named in error with the word business in the username. I intend to make contributions to Wikipedia page Coventry Very Light Rail WMGBusiness (talk) 13:16, 7 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

Decline reason:

That's an acceptable username, and a valid subject to edit about, but you will now need to address your block evasion. I am declining your request. 331dot (talk) 20:03, 7 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

@331dot: With regards to Coventry Very Light Rail being a valid subject to edit about for this user, it may be worth noting that the Coventry VLR system was designed and developed by WMG... Yunshui  22:51, 7 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

Request reason:

Hi there, thanks, regarding the block, it is the first time I've used this site, and I thought I would be able to sign up separately as an individual, since the block was put against the business user account. However, I now realise that's against the rules of the site. I only seek to edit the Coventry VLR page in accordance with the Wikipedia rules, so I would like to resubmit my request to unblock this account, and will continue familiarising myself with the rules of the site to ensure I don't fall foul again. Regarding Yunshui's comment, regarding the appropriateness of WMG editing the Coventry VLR page, I'd like to put forwrad the following. WMG are a university department, and an academic partner on the Government-funded research consortium who designed and developed VLR. WMG doesn't own any of the IP nor do they stand to benefit commercially from the Coventry VLR system. Also, as an individual, I feel strongly that it's in the public interest to have accurate information about any subject on Wikipedia available on the page. On the Coventry VLR page, there is a presentation that's been linked to that contains inaccruacies as well as confidential information. Therefore, as an individual, I'm keen to ensure the accuracy of the information on the VLR page - for the benefit of everyone. Please reconsider the unblock request, thanks WMGBusiness (talk) 10:45, 18 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

Decline reason:

When I first read this unblock request I was quite sympathetic to it. Thinking that when the business account was blocked it would be OK to just go ahead and create a personal account is perfectly understandable. However, looking further I found a different picture. After your second account was blocked for block-evasion you knew that it wasn't acceptable, but you went ahead and evaded blocks by using a third account. If you think that the web site used as a reference contains "confidential" information, then that is a matter for you to take up with the owners of that web site. If there are "inaccuracies" that invalidate use of the source as a reference in the Wikipedia article, then you need to state what they are, and provide evidence that they are inaccurate, rather than just removing them without explanation. If there are inaccuracies which are irrelevant to their use as Wikipedia references then again that is an issue to take up with the owners of that web site. Whether your organisation "stand[s] to benefit commercially from the Coventry VLR system" is irrelevant: it is clear from experience over many years that people with a personal involvement in an organisation have difficulty in being objective about it (assuming they intend to do so) whether or not they stand to benefit commercially. All things considered, it does not seem that unblocking you would be beneficial to the project. JBW (talk) Formerly JamesBWatson 17:39, 18 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
