City of Edinburgh Racing Club

edit

I saw your comments to the user who reviewed your AFC submission. If you can get references that establish notability to WP standards then yes it's suitable for inclusion. The way the article reads at the moment you are slightly confusing two things (I think) 1) the notability of the club and 2) the notability of successes achieved by it's members. 2) is not an indication of 1) especially as quite a lot of the successes have come after the riders left the club. If we strip out the references to achievements by members there isn't a lot left. And of what there is three of the references are Chris Hoy's comment about it being the "best club". That's not a lot to go on. What is needed is more references about the club itself. Have any of the cycling mags done articles about the club? It's that type of information that will swing this. Does it get frequnet cover in the local press (other than routine notices about meeting etc)? Have its members acheived success as a club e.g. in national team events? It's not going to take much to push this above the threshold but it needs more than there currently is. Also I'd omit all the stuff about successes by members and leave it as a list of notable members. If they have their own articles which most seem to do then you don't need to repeat those achievements here. NtheP (talk) 17:47, 21 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for taking the time to have a look, I was getting a bit confused and disenfranchised with the whole process. I was wondering about the points you raised to do with the article content already and I think I'll change it. I think I need to take a bit more time to get references, I know of a lot of stuff which isn't online. I collated all of the club's national and international medals here and I think it shows the club's national success. (only issue is that national championships aren't considered notable by WP)
Thanks for the encouragement though, I think I will keep going with this one. Veloriders (talk) 19:04, 21 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
It doesn't have to be online, just information that could be obtained to verify it if needed. So printed materials are ok as long as they aren't private manuscripts etc.
Most of the UK national championships or at least those governed by UK Cycling are notable - see Category:Cycle racing in the United Kingdom so if the club have entered a team or a team was based around members and they did most of their training in Edinburgh that's going to be ok too.
We'll get there so don't get downheartened :-) NtheP (talk) 19:21, 21 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
