Unable to verify book

edit

I have removed this text as I am unable to find the book, a year of publication and an ISBN. Also linking to the authors page is spammy.

"Changes in the bones and soft tissues of the face are a normal dynamic phenomenon that continues throughout life. Thus implant placement today should attempt to compensate for future changes. Whereas some changes are similar for both genders, others are not. Three-dimensional changes in the position of teeth and associated hard and soft tissue relative to the static position of implants can introduce compromises. Age-related changes in the maxilla and mandible can create important alterations, the exact extent, vectors and magnitude differ between genders. The vertical and horizontal changes are more pronounced in patients with short or long faces. The challenge for treatment planning is to anticipate potential changes over time. The clinical decisions that must be made prior to treatment are described. The difficulties of implant placement in adult patients have not been addressed adequately. However, with proper planning, the esthetic and functional impact of tissue changes on implant reconstructions can be diminished. The professional challenge of treatment is to develop a time dependent individual protocol that will adapt to the aging face. [1]"

SPA / COI

edit

Hi Vector4 intl all your edits to date have been about Odet Bahat and are somewhat promotional about Dr Bahat. This makes your account what we call a "single purpose account" (please see WP:SPA) I'm giving you notice of our Conflict of Interest guideline and Terms of Use, and will have some comments and questions for you below.

Hello, Vector4 intl. We welcome your contributions to Wikipedia, but if you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest or close connection to the subject.

All editors are required to comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view content policy. People who are very close to a subject often have a distorted view of it, which may cause them to inadvertently edit in ways that make the article either too flattering or too disparaging. People with a close connection to a subject are not absolutely prohibited from editing about that subject, but they need to be especially careful about ensuring their edits are verified by reliable sources and writing with as little bias as possible.

If you are very close to a subject, here are some ways you can reduce the risk of problems:

  • Avoid or exercise great caution when editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with.
  • Avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).
  • Exercise great caution so that you do not accidentally breach Wikipedia's content policies.

Please familiarize yourself with relevant content policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies. Note that Wikipedia's terms of use require disclosure of your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you.

Question

Wikipedia is a scholarly project, and like all scholarly endeavors, disclosure of conflict of interest is essential for ensuring the integrity of Wikipedia and retaining the public's trust in it. COI issues get a bit ... interesting in Wikipedia, since we allow editors to be anonymous here. Please do read WP:COI, especially the section on Writing about yourself and your work. As in academia, conflict of interest in Wikipedia is managed via disclosure.

While I am not asking you to disclose your identity (anonymity is strictly protecting by out WP:OUTING policy) would you please disclose if you have some relationship with Dr. Bahat? You can answer how ever you wish, but if there is a COI with regard to Dr Bahat, please disclose it. After you respond (and you can just reply below), perhaps we can talk a bit about editing Wikipedia, to give you some more orientation to how this place works. Thanks! yes i know dr bahat. he is a friend. i attended the academy of osseointegration lectures he gave in march in san francisco and think his message of facial aging needing to be taken into account in the treatment planning process is important. our skulls do grow as we age and implants are static. i am not a scholar but believe that message should be included in any discussion about dental implants. any links i added to him personally can removed. my apologies but those are no big deal. he has written about this and he has published articles including in 2013, Lifelong Craniofacial Growth and the Implications for Osseointegrated Implants, Intl Journal of Oral & Maxillofacial Implants. other articles from this journal are cited in this article. but i don't understand why are we not focused on the information? please let me know how to repost that information with the citation of jomi. when the book gets published i will update the citation. Vector4 intl (talk) 17:23, 26 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

thanks, we are focusing on COI because it is an important issue that needs to be managed in any scholarly endeavor, as i wrote above. it appears that you didn't read any of the links above. here i will provide the key one again: Wikipedia:Conflict_of_interest#Writing_about_yourself_and_your_work. i think your response would have been different, had you read that. would you please read that, and reply again? thanks. Jytdog (talk) 17:29, 26 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
i did read those. i have contributed in the past correcting information about my grandfather's company daystrom. we cannot always choose who has information that should be shared. but i do appreciate the sensitivity about how it's communicated. i deeply believe in real information that's beneficial. to that end, i still think the content of that information edited in the dental implant article was absolutely neutral. if you feel the linking is spammy, ok. i have no problem having those removed. but again the content of that edit and the citation of the jomi article is solid. please let me know how you think that paragraph is not worthy to be included. thanks.Vector4 intl (talk) 17:36, 26 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
so would you please let me know how you interpret the very first line in the section I linked to just above - namely: "You should not create or edit articles about yourself, your family, or friends."? Thanks. Jytdog (talk) 17:48, 26 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

thank so much for your rigorousness. knowing these guidelines i could have lied to you. but i chose not to. i even let you know i corrected information on my grandfather. bottom line is that i interpret the word 'should' as saying that "in most cases" -- i also carefully considered what i was submitting and how it was worded. do you believe that information is not worthy of inclusion in and article on dental implants? please let me know how you would improve the information. Vector4 intl (talk) 17:55, 26 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Thanks so much! a lot of people come to WIkipedia with a conflict of interest and are not aware of how we manage COI here. thanks for talking with me. Other than asking editors to disclose their COI, the other key way that we manage COI in Wikipedia, is that we ask editors with a COI to post content suggestions on the Talk page of the article, instead of directly editing the article. I have added a section to the box at the top of the Talk page of the Dental implants article that sets up an "edit request" -- all you have to do is click where it says "click here" and it will set up a pre-formatted section for you to make the request in. if you want to offer a suggestion citing your friend, that is the way to do it. We get really great improvements to the article this way, and conflicted edits get reviewed before going "live" - it is a bit rough, but it works well to protect the integrity WP and provide a way for people with a COI to contribute. I hope that makes sense. Thanks again. Jytdog (talk) 17:59, 26 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

again, my thanks. i think i've done what you suggest. any chance you can double check the information is correctly placed? i appreciate it.Vector4 intl (talk) 21:57, 26 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

you are welcome. i left a note there. Jytdog (talk) 23:34, 26 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

ok. i've made some changes and disclosed as i think you want me to disclose. you seems to agree that the information itself is not in dispute so i'm still trying. i'd appreciate a bit more civility and specificity. some of those articles are dense. thank you. Vector4 intl (talk) 00:08, 27 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

(long exhale). i would appreciate a lot of things too. anyway, i've given all the time i have today. good luck to you, really. Jytdog (talk) 00:37, 27 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
