October 2023 edit

Hi Unawoken! I noticed that you recently marked an edit as minor at Mars in fiction that may not have been. "Minor edit" has a very specific definition on Wikipedia—it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections or reverting obvious vandalism. Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not a minor edit, even if it only concerns a single word. Please see Help:Minor edit for more information. Thank you. Is that why the edit was undone? Unawoken (talk) 10:59, 12 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
No, that had to do with the sourcing. I realize now that I may have parsed the source's Doom depicts a research outpost located on the Red Planet whose occupants must battle demons swarming on to Mars from hell, transported by teleportation portals located on Mars's moons (Phobos and Deimos). incorrectly ("transported by teleportation portals" could either mean "transported [to Mars] by teleportation portals" or "transported [from hell] by teleportation portals"). At any rate, the inclusion of this is quite dubious from a WP:PROPORTION perspective (especially considering it's a WP:Featured article), so I think the best solution is removing it altogether. That's fine. I don't necessarily agree that Doom was being overrepresented, as most of the Doom games are set on Mars or the moons of Mars, but I'm willing to rewrite the line with a more general approach to the Doom franchise if you feel that would make it more relevant. I found this page specifically because I was looking to see if Doom was mentioned on a page about Phobos and Deimos in popular culture, so to me it's worth getting it correct and having it listed, even if only as an aside. The relevant thing is not how important Mars is to Doom, but how much sources on the overarching topic of Mars in fiction focus on Doom. Having surveyed the literature quite thoroughly (if I do say so myself), I can confidently say that Doom, and indeed video games in general, barely gets mentioned. I understand. I will mention, obviously, video games are a relatively new medium and I think that should be considered when determining their relevance to Mars in popular culture, even if it ultimately doesn't change your mind. You have revert power on this article which means I'm ultimately beholden to what you want on it. Unawoken (talk) 16:32, 12 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
