  • I think that this is an excellent essay that raises many good points and offers some good ideas. Perhaps it should become easier to become an administrator, so that desysopping is no longer the major social tragedy that it now is. ScottyBerg (talk) 13:20, 10 August 2011 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for your comments, ScottyBerg. In light of your comments, you might be interested in this discussion regarding lowering the pass threshold at RFA or this discussion regarding a possible radical alternative that would allow bureaucrats to give users administrative tools at their own discretion, much like WP:PERM. • I basically agree with this page. However, there's little chance it will turn into anything concrete, because it's hard to push through reforms like this. I got to thinking about this, and I came up with a way to turn this on its head. It's very difficult to get Wikipedians to agree to anything, which means that it's also very difficult to get Wikipedians to agree to prevent something being done. (As in real life: it's much easier to ask forgiveness than get permission.) So I came up with this: User:Herostratus/Administrator reconfirmation. It's long because it details careful steps in detail, but in a nutshell, it describes how to run a recall RfA using existing structures. A person could do it right now, today. I think that getting recall RfA's agreed to ahead of time has essentially 0% chance of success, while the procedure I outlined has about a 50% chance of success. I doubt I (or anyone) will actually deploy it -- it'd require a lot of cojones. Might work though. Herostratus (talk) 07:21, 28 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Interesting essay, but I found the grouping of problems and solutions confusing. You might like to reformat with each problem and solution together. --Surturz (talk) 11:17, 9 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

  Done, thanks for your input. Tyrol5 [Talk] 22:02, 9 September 2011 (UTC)Reply
Tyrol, you may want to consider adding mandatory recall to your very good essay. Some administrators are open to recall. Why not all? Otherwise I think you've summed up the issues very well. ScottyBerg (talk) 02:26, 10 September 2011 (UTC)Reply
