Patricia Volonakis Davis

Dear Ttonyb1,

We received your message about our article on Patricia Volonakis Davis.Thank you for taking the time to write. We have also left this same message for the other editors. I understand your concerns and I tried to address them. Unfortunately for me, I am not tech-savvy at all, so I cannot figure out how to add ll the things you requested - links and other credentials which I think should be added. I had someone else do it for me who was happy to, because she also thinks Ms. Davis should have a WIKI page. Unfortunately, she emphasized things like Patricia's award, which means little and is not what she is notable for, in my opinion.

Patricia is notable for her e-magazine and podcast, which is unique in that it is the only NON-PARTISAN publication on the web. Other publications, like The Huffington Post, for example, are filled with articles that have only one perspective. Ms. Davis started her e-magazine on the idea that we should all be heard, from all perspectives, as that is the only way to truly open up one's mind and begin a WORLD DIALOGUE. What is the sense of writing only for people who agree with you? The only rule for Harlots' Sauce Radio (her e-magazine) is that when you submit, you must use facts and not emotions as your basis for your article. Further, Ms. Davis will take fledging writers, poets and photographers, young people like myself, and give them a voice and a high profile platform from which to publish.

Her podcasts are unlike the usual podcasts, too. They all follow the theme of "Something Delicious Out of Limited Choices- people who had bad things handed to them and made something good form them- a woman who has a rare brain disease, and decides it is a good thing because it taught her to appreciate life, a writer who lost his wife two weeks before he was published for the first time, and kept writing in her name, identical twins who lost their father who died in jail, and made a film about him independently in which they managed to get Ed Harris to star.

Her journalistic work is the antidote to the Bush legacy of separating the United States from the world and also from itself- into two parts- liberal and right wing. Her writers are not just Americans, they hail from New Zealand, Greece, UK, Australia, and more. She works tirelessly to inspire. Her blog on VOX regularly receives hundreds of comments and although she has only written one book, even that book is a perspective on cross-culturalism, feminism and xenophobia. She wrote it so that it reads funny and light, but it is deep and intelligent. Because it wasn't the usual formulaic junk and Ms.Davis is an unknown she had difficulty obtaining a traditional publisher, and so she went with a smaller publisher who believed in the work. That book is now hot all over the internet and is now being considered for several awards. She is so busy, speaking, writing, and promoting other inspiring people and being encouraging and inspiring to others, that she has no idea we, her writers and blog fans have created this page for her. many of us think she deserves it and we wanted to present it to her as a surprise. But, if you think it should be deleted, because she is not yet famous enough, go ahead. However, you might be pleased in six months to see it back up again, put there by someone else, and by then I can assure you, you will know very well who she is. So I ask respectfully, if perhaps you might want to reconsider and have WIKi be the first to truly claim her for what she is?

If I sound like an adoring fan, well, you might be too, if you knew her work. We put this page up so that many will. Please reconsider. Check her e-mag at www.harlotssauce.com Thank you. NV —Preceding unsigned comment added by NigelVoight (talkcontribs) 03:42, 3 March 2009 (UTC)

David Marks again

Hi Tony, still hoping you have time to get around to reading and re-grading the David Marks page. Btw, since I worked on it, it has been somewhat re-written by someone else. I have no intention of reverting anything, and intend to move on to other Beach Boys-related writing and editing (most notably on Brian Wilson where the first four sections of his bio were added by me last month... oddly, absolutely nothing existed on his pre-Beach Boy life before I went to work.)

Anyway, I'm still interested in an upgrade from 'stub' grade for the David Marks page, feel it would be wrong to grade it myself, and also, since you find the Beach Boys of interest (like you- I assume- they were the soundtrack for a stage of my childhood,) if you get a chance to take look at Brian Wilson's page, which still needs a ton of work, I'd be grateful. Thanks again! Jusdafax (talk) 05:20, 3 March 2009 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Dr. Arun K. Garg

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Dr. Arun K. Garg, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

I'm a little concerned that this mistitled page is a self-made CV, and that there is no real notability for the person in question.

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. ╟─TreasuryTagcontribs─╢ 21:28, 4 March 2009 (UTC)

I followed the instructions to post my message on the talk page referenced by the auto-bot. I am very confused by all the "talk" stuff, as it seems to be coming at me from several directions and I cannot tell who I should be responding to. I believe I have responded to 3 or 4, possibly 5 up to this point, but I keep getting messages from different reviewers before I get a response to prior submissions. Can you help????

nag tags

My opinion may not be the general consensus, so I'll avoid acting on it except when I am impatient. I will explain it to you, though, since you graciously took the time to explain your own actions. First, it is my opinion that the banners generally deface articles. A critical reader (and Wikipedia cannot pretend to provide a reputable service to any other kind of reader) will be able to perceive weaknesses in the text for himself. Second, to leave 'assignments' or 'reminders' for other editors implies some sort of ranking of editorial authority - as if some editors are at the beck and call of others. If there is a project page monitored by people who want to be informed of articles needing their specialized attention, then by all means list a problem article there when you find it. But don't nag every reader and editor who happens upon the article. More directly said, I don't mind doing dirty work, but I do take some offense at being told to do it. Thanks for the opportunity to vent. --Dystopos (talk) 04:00, 10 March 2009 (UTC)

Software Imaging Deletion

Hi, My name is Kevin Jampole(one of the owners of Software Imaging) which you marked for deletion - our intention was to include an entry under this category [[1]]. It is not to spam users of Wikipedia but to include a background on a very influential company that has helped define the printing market. We are a highly technical company that has played a significant role in the development of printing. Can you make any specific suggestions wrt the above link (which includes a number of other suppliers in this industry that seem to be similar in content that Martin posted) that might improve our page? Ttony,

This is my first wikipedia article. If you have any suggestions for me on making it read better, please feel free to let me know. Jball65 (talk) 22:11, 12 March 2009 (UTC)

First of all, I am impressed with the way you have been working to improve it. It has come a long way. I have tried to shadow your efforts to give you a little help without ruining your fun.
A couple of things: 1)You do not need to reference every inline item, only the ones that might add to the article. Also once in the article is enough. 2)The sections I referred to would be something like Early Life, War on Drugs, Relation with British Officials, etc. These are just suggestions and are not the ones I would necessarily use. A lot of this depends on how you can combine like items into related paragraphs.
Again, nice job. ttonyb1 (talk) 22:19, 12 March 2009 (UTC)

Tony, whenever you get a chance, take a look at the article and see of there's anything you think I need to do. I think I'm just about done putting in information about the guy. Mainly I want to make sure its up to standard on POV, neutrality, etc. Thanks again for your help.Jball65 (talk) 22:28, 16 March 2009 (UTC)

Are you trying to get this to a User/sandbox? If so, you can create a user subpage call it sandbox or test. I would 1)create your user page; 2)copy the Wikipedia article to the user page; 3)blank the original page. Good luck and if I can be of any other help please let me know. Ttonyb1,

Thanks for the encouragement. I'm going to keep learning and contributing. One of the areas I'm confused about is Categories. For example. I know an American company (not yet listed) that produces bolt-on aftermarket automotive pollution control parts. It's main line of business is producing and selling those parts. So, it seemingly fits into auto parts, automotive, emission control, and possibly another area I'm not thinking of.

I'm just using this as an example, but what is the best way to drill down into categories when you post new entries?

Thanks! Irthcomm (talk) 03:42, 17 March 2009 (UTC)

Irthcomm:
There are a couple of ways to approach this.
  • You can use WP:HOTCAT to assign categories;
  • Maybe an easier way to accomplish this is to look at an entry that is close to yours and see how it has been cat'd (think of like entries, such as Cisco, Netgear);
  • The third way is to browse the list of categories. (Given the number of categories, a real pain.)
Take a look at WP:CATEGORY for more info. Good luck... ttonyb1 (talk) 03:54, 17 March 2009 (UTC)

Regarding Akron Community Foundation page

Thanks for your input; I appreciate your attentiveness. However, I am a paid employee of Akron Community Foundation, and the information included is our own content. The copyright on the content you are removing belongs to our organization, and we agree to have it appear on your site. Is there a reason you feel that particular content violates copyright laws? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mooneykl (talkcontribs) 18:42, 17 March 2009 (UTC)

Owning the copyright to the material makes this a lot easier, but there are some steps that need to be followed to validate the ownership. See Copyright permission for the steps. Let me know if I can be of any help. Thanks... ttonyb1 (talk) 18:47, 17 March 2009 (UTC)

I apologize for all the confusion. This was my first time creating a page, and I didn't realize the content had been removed purposefully. I assumed I had accidentally deleted it or there was something wrong with my account, so that's why I repeatedly put it back up. Thanks for all the help; I've sent the permission e-mail as you instructed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mooneykl (talkcontribs) 22:42, 17 March 2009 (UTC)

ERP in Practice

Dear User, I understand wikipedia's policy about copyright violations. But kindly know that this blog is also maintaied by me and that there is no necessity for it to be copyrighted. There is no information in the blog that which Tata McGraw Hill doesn't wish to share. The excerpts are the same as what TMG use to advertise their book. No other content from the book is published. Also It is the author of the book - Mr.Jagan Nathan Vaman, who requested me to put his book on wiki. That is the reason for creating a wiki page. Hence I request you to reinstate the page. If required I can ask the author to clarify it himself by mail. Kind Regards Indrajit Rajtilak —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rtindru (talkcontribs) 01:45, 19 March 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for contacting me about this article and the issues associated with it. In actuality there were a couple of problems with the article:
In order to fix the first issue you need to prove that the author allows the material to be used by Wikipedia. Unfortunately, just saying it is OK is not quite enough. The instructions to document the material can be used by Wikipedia are here].
Secondly, the article needs to be re-written prior to it being established in Wikipedia. The article was written as if it were an advertisement. See instructions concerning the issues associated with "Spam".
I would recreate the article in a User/sandbox, make the changes to it to remove the issues associated with it appearing to be an advertisement, and then upload it to Wikipedia. Good luck... ttonyb1 (talk) 03:17, 19 March 2009 (UTC)

Speedy deletion

Hi. When you mark a page for speedy deletion, please take a moment to follow the steps shown in the speedy banner to place a notification on the talk page of the author. I won't delete a page if the author hasn't been notified, except in cases of attack pages and blatant vandalism. Otherwise, the author never knows what happened, and is likely to just create the page again. Thanks for contributing to Wikipedia. --R'n'B (call me Russ) 12:36, 20 March 2009 (UTC)

I authored all the materials about Poetry.LA and that is why they're the same as appears on their My Space site, as I also created that site for them, and wrote the article on that site as well. The video links are to videos that originate on their site, created by Poetry.LA (their name is embedded on each video), and are uploaded to YouTube. They asked me to include links to these videos in the Wikipedia article. Poetry.LA started as a way to bring broader exposure to poets beyond the intimate spaces where the poets' readings were taped. To date they feature over 180 poets, including U.S. Poet Laureate Kay Ryan. Poetry.LA hopes to establish itself as a non-profit. Would this article post if the video links were not included and perhaps just a list of poets they have featured?TeresaC7 (talk) 01:20, 25 March 2009 (UTC)

Your site sounds interesting and I look forward to seeing an article in Wikipedia about it. There are a couple of things that need to take place in order to get copyrighted material into an article. See Copyrighted material-when permission is confirmed for more information.
There are no specific restrictions related to Youtube videos-other than copyright concerns. See WP:YOUTUBE for more information, I would also suggest reading the entire article of which that is a sub-section. Good luck and if I can be of any further help please let me know. ttonyb1 (talk) 01:39, 25 March 2009 (UTC)

Kolkey Photo

I have been editing the Kolkey page - The original "Kolkey1.jpg" is a bad "doctored" picture and should not be replaced by the better photo. If there is a desire to retain the original text, that should be the only thing edited - not the photo. Please do not replace Kolkey2. Thank you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by History Biographer (talkcontribs) 00:05, 26 March 2009 (UTC)

This is exactly the issue at hand, both appear to be "doctored". The larger provide more evidence of doctoring. Please leave the original photo or remove it entirely. ttonyb1 (talk) 00:08, 26 March 2009 (UTC)

I read over the Copyright Guidelines, but just wanted to make sure it's understood that the material I'm posting on Wikipedia is something that I authored and is the same as what I posted on Poetry.LA's My Space site. Do I still need to ask for permission to post my own material? Sorry, but I found the Copyright Guidelines very confusing. Thank you for your help. TeresaC7 (talk) 00:19, 26 March 2009 (UTC)

You do not have to ask permission, but you do have to give permission as the author of the original material. Take a look at WP:CONSENT. ttonyb1 (talk) 00:27, 26 March 2009 (UTC)

Speedy deletion

Hi Tony, nice work on your newpage patrolling today, though I think I can salvage Eritrean People's Movement, but can I suggest that when you tag pages for deletion you consider informing the author? It can be a tad disconcerting especially for newbies if their article just disappears, and if we don't tell them why they won't learn.... This has been done because the article, which appears to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Sc6 (talk) 07:08, 30 March 2009 (UTC) ==

Hello!

I have added sources and links on the articles to provide evidence that the site does have notability and should be considered as a legitimate page and article for Redux the company.

Please take a look at it again and notice the links within the article and extra media resources I have provided at the bottom to support the page I have worked on.

Thanks and let me know if there is still anything I can do. I hope we can resolve this issue.Sc6 (talk) 07:13, 30 March 2009 (UTC)
