WBCN/WBMX times

Hi. I noticed you were one of the editors that mentioned the WBCN (FM)/WBMX switch-over times on August 12, 2009. One editor has noted the callsign switch as being at 12:05 a.m. and another has noted the Mix format move as happening at 2:00 a.m. One editor said that the station "went to static" for 2 hours, but didn't specify whether it was off the air or was broadcasting the sound of static; that information was apparently removed. Information what was happening on 104.1 between 12:05 and 2:00, or whether one of the times is wrong, would be helpful. --Closeapple (talk) 12:26, 15 August 2009 (UTC)

In my original edit, I said that WBCN ended their broadcast at 12:05 and then shortly after the WBMX call sign was announced after a few minutes of static. To clarify: the static began directly after BCN's sign off and through the BMX call sign and on beyond that. I turned off the radio at perhaps 12:15 or so, with static still being broadcast.

I'm not quite sure what the difference between 'being off the air' and 'broadcasting static' might be. Perhaps it was fake static actually being broadcast with the call sign added, although it sounded like real static to me, just like I hear when the local college station WUNH signs off. Yeah, that's what I meant: that it might have been transmitting the fake (recorded) sound of static, rather than actually cutting the transmitter. You said the legal ID was said through the static? If that is the case, it was either fake static (since you can't talk to anyone when the station's off), or they lowered their power for 2 hours for some unknown reason and you were hearing far-away static mixed in with a very low power WBMX. I wonder if anyone happened to catch legal ID at 1 a.m. — if they truly were off the air, they wouldn't have to do legal until they came back on. --Closeapple (talk) 03:16, 16 August 2009 (UTC)

The ID was most definetly over/through/during the static. Broadcasting fake static seems like a lot of effort to go to, but who knows, perhaps they needed to actually broadcast something/anything during that time. When I have some more time, I will find the link to the mp3 of the station shutdown I found the other day and post the link here for you. Sadly, it only goes till shortly after the new ID. The WBMX ID is most definitely OVER the static, confirming it was in fact fake static. What a weird thing to do, but I'm sure they had their reasons. This now leaves us with one last question: who read the ID? - Ttenchantr (talk) 00:22, 2 February 2010 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for File:TempImage4.png

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:TempImage4.png. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion.
