Hi TripleThree, thanks for your comments on the maps in Trams in Adelaide. The trick with creating these maps is to use information from copyrighted sources ( as I did for the 1950s map) without either infringing on copyright or creating a Derivative work that cannot be released freely. For all of them (in particular Image:Adelaide metropolitan area map.svg I

• Scanned in various street maps and google earth satellite images.
• Combined them into a master back image. Note that this image is used just to get the scale and distances correct, and to locate major roads.
• Used adobe illustrator selectively draw a map, using the scanned image as a backdrop.
  • Information on the maps comes from different sources to the scanned ones, in the case of Image:Adelaide trammap 1950s.png from a wall chart map at a tram museum.
• Delete the master image and save map as an SVG only with no copyright information included.

I'm told that the free software Inkscape is capable of being used in place of Illustrator for this. My thinking on the copyright is that the creator of a map (or satellite image) has clear copyright on their work, but that information can be derived from this work without infringing. - Peripitus (Talk) 03:59, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

thanks for your comments, the inclusion of the link of the residents' views does not conform to WP:RS and Wikipedia is not a place for publishing such sites, as per WP:NOTOPINION and WP:LINKSTOAVOID. Oxford Wikimania 2010 and Wikimedia UK v2.0 Notice

Stations

I've actually done quite a bit of work on the metropolitan closed stations, and we've been able to make what I think are some interesting articles (with more room for expansion still), even if there's nothing remaining of the station.

I'm less certain about the ones that didn't have much in the way of physical infrastructure (I was probably being optimistic about Hoskinstown), but I'm pretty confident a reasonable article could be written about Captains Flat. People said that there'd never be articles on the closed stations in Victoria - but then, once there were red links, they started appearing - both metro and regional (although we've still got a way to go on the regional ones).

I do see your point, but if we don't have red links there, we'll never get articles on the stations, and I think we could and should have articles on there. What if we, say, had a link to the town in brackets next to the station link in those cases? Rebecca (talk) 21:54, 3 October 2008 (UTC)

Goomburra railway line, Queensland

Thank you for writing a very interesting article on Goomburra railway line, Queensland. In the article, you wrote "The branch opened as far as Allora on 21 April, 1987 and was extended to Goomburra on 23 April, 1912." This is obviously a typo, but I cannot correct it, because I do not know whether it was opened in 1887, 1897 or perhaps another year. When that has been corrected, the article could also be included in one of the subcategories of Category:Railway lines by year of opening. Coyets (talk) 12:09, 23 February 2009 (UTC)

Thank you for correcting the typo. On looking at various articles, it seems to me that the opening of the first section of a line is used for categorising railway lines by year of opening. This seems to me to be correct, because the articles usually state that the line was extended, which I think is something other than opening. If a small stretch of line was opened and the main stretch much later, I think that it would be better to include both categories. However, I am just an editor on Wikipedia, and if any other editor has other opinions, the matter should be discussed to form a consensus.
