License tagging for Image:Tindal building anglia ruskin.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Tindal building anglia ruskin.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

Anglia Ruskin and images

edit

Hi there. I have reverted your recent additions to Anglia Ruskin University. The material may well prove sound, but it is Wikipedia policy that all information added must be verified by referencing external sources. This is especially crucial in the case of a content dispute, as is underway over at the Anglia Ruskin article. You can learn more about proper referencing at Wikipedia:Citing sources.

Help on uploading images is available at Wikipedia:Uploading images. A more technically involved guide is available at Help:Images and other uploaded files. Please read the prompts on the upload page or follow the directions on the Upload Wizard precisely.

If your problem is technical in nature, this should help. A second common problem, which you seem to have experienced above, is that your image is successfully uploaded, but is deleted by an administrator because it may violate Wikipedia's image use policy. Following the guidance on the upload page will help, but be aware that it is almost never acceptable to upload an image whose copyright you do not own (in the case of photographs, you must ordinarily have taken the photograph yourself to own the copyright), and you must state on the the image's information page the source and copyright status of an image. Additionally, you must license your photograph for reuse under a "free" licence, granting Wikipedia and others the right to reuse the image.

My apologies if this sounds difficult - Wikipedia takes copyright law very seriously, and the end result of the policy is that the encyclopedia remains free to everyone. — mholland (talk) 11:59, 13 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
