What did i do edit

you sent me a message that said

"Please do not add nonsense to Wikipedia. It is considered vandalism. If you would like to experiment, use the sandbox. Thank you. Travelbird 14:49, 29 June 2006 (UTC)

Mr. T-Z-M, shut up ugly."

What did i do huh? Thank You. T-Z-M 02:26, 3 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

You added rather derogatory remarks to to my user page (see [1]. I might also add that the "shut up ugly" part wasn't added by me. but rather by user 202.248.11.18 (see [2].

Hi travelbird, theepublicist here. You left me a message. I need help with removing the template, and the request to wikify. I thought that it was wikified enough. Please make some specific suggestions. Your response will be deeply appreciated. --Theepublicist 06:47, 14 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi Travelbird, you said in a message to me that I edited something on the "Forever 21" page -- I did not. In fact, I never even knew it existed! Please check with someone about such things before you accuse them of vandalism! (LD) September 20, 2006

Bulgarian exonyms edit

Hi! So even the smaller phonetic changes are OK for inclusion, but not mere transliteration. Thanks for clearing that one out — I'd be happy to work on the page, but wasn't sure about some details. TodorBozhinov 07:52, 3 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Kriesel edit

I have looked at the Calgary and Winterberg track maps and they have it spelled different ways (Calgary: "Kriesel", Winterberg: "Kreisel"). A quick way to fix this problem is to have it listed as what I have created and use the other as a redirect. Your thoughts on this. Chris 19:19, 4 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

    • As a follow-up, I moved the article information to Kreisel, then used Kriesel to redirect to Kreisel. You were correct. Chris 19:23, 4 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Liliʻuokalani Botanical Garden edit

Hello! well, it's a puzzle to me exactly how to proceed for the Liliʻuokalani Botanical Garden article title. Hawaiian names often have diacritical marks (okina); this one does, and it shows up fine in my browser. They are sometimes represented by a simple apostrophe in English, or just by omitting the mark. Because of this rather chaotic situation, I made the main article use the "correct" (Hawaiian English) spelling, then added two redirect pages (one with apostrophe, one without any mark) so people could just type in the names on normal keyboards. I guess I don't have any particular view on how such things should be done in Wikipedia. Cheers, Daderot 19:57, 4 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Well, if you added a redirect this is fine. I should have checked for that. Travelbird 20:01, 4 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Ed Brown Products edit

It seems possible that Ed Brown Products, which you put a speedy tag on, is notable after all, with 719 Google hits. I don't care very much, though. --TruthbringerToronto (Talk | contribs) 20:36, 4 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

It may be notable, but the text is a copyright violation. (see tp://www.edbrown.com/cgi-bin/start.cgi/about.htm) Travelbird 20:48, 4 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
It's now deleted as a copyvio under CSD A8. Thanks. Harro5 22:52, 4 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

152.163.100.132 edit

The user with IP address above has been vandalising the Jehovah's Witness article (specifically, reverting to a vandalised version, but falsely claiming in the comment to be reverting to an edit by me). I note on the user's talk page that you warned them in May that if they continued to vandalised articles, they would be banned. I will let you decide what action to take from here. Thanks.--Jeffro77 22:33, 5 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

I had warned the user of that IP-address in May and he was subsequently blocked the same day. The problem with AOL-address are that they change very fast, i.e. AOL users get a new IP-adresss every few minutes. That means that blocking a specific address is basically useless. For more information you can look at Wikipedia:Dealing with AOL vandals.
After changing the Jehovah's Witnesses page once he didn't change anything further so I don't think that blocking this IP at the moment would do any good, as it would very likely affect someone other that the actual vandal. If you notice that someone is vandalising the Jehovah's Witnesses using multiple IP addresses, contact me again and I will try to contact AOL. Travelbird 10:49, 6 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Dominick Dunne edit

Can you undo your move; you replaced a well-written article with the newly minted lesser quality one. Carlossuarez46 20:09, 10 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks Carlossuarez46 20:12, 10 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

At the moment I'm a bit confused as to what actually happend. I moved Dominick dunne to Dominick Dunne because of spelling, Normally there should not have been an article named Dominick Dunne before the move. When looking at the page histories I don't show up, yet the page move does show up on "my contributions". Mmm. But since it has been rectified, I guess we'll just put this down to a software glitch. Travelbird 20:15, 10 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
no prob. I was just giving you credit for a lightning-fast response. :-) Also, check out the sharks that should be speedied. TTYL. Carlossuarez46 20:20, 10 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
Dominick Dunne is the correct one. Carlossuarez46 20:22, 10 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
I'll redirect the other one to Dominick Dunne then. Travelbird 20:23, 10 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Sønderjylland / Slesvig in Danish language use edit

Hi Travelbird.

I've added a short explanation on the use of these terms in Danish on the Talk:Coat of arms of Schleswig, and why I believe both names should be listed. I'm particularly thinking about the situation in the Middle Ages. Regards. Valentinian (talk) 10:44, 14 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

visiting Albania edit

Hi Travelbird, Sorry for not answering to your question earlier, I'm surely glad to help, but I haven't logged in Wikipedia in a long time as I was in the midst of an exam session :). You said that "your intention is to pass through Albania when you drive back to Cyprus". This means you're driving a car for the whole journey. The first thing you have to be aware of is that, unfortunately, there aren't many border crossings to get into Albania. If you're comming from somewhere in (Central) Europe (i.e. from the north of Albania) the best way is to enter from Montenegro (One might also come by ferry bringing his car along too, but I don't think you'd be interested and anyway the summer is the worst period to try it, since they are always overpopulated) I presume you'll chose this way in and go on. As far as I know there are two possible crossings from Montenegro, but both of them lead you to the major northern city of Shkodra. I might give you some suggestions of what to visit but I need to know sth more on what you're interested in. I'd spend some hours in Shkoda, especially if you find yourself there in the morning. It's a really peculiar city. Very alive and cheerful in the morning. A mix of old neighborhoods with old houses and narrow roads, communist architecture ( regular appartment buildings facing wider streets, and broad squares ), after the '90s repopulated by newly built mosques and catholic churches. A must see is the Rozafa castle in its dominant position on the entrance of the city (you might enter the city from the other side thought, coming from Montenegro, but you're surely going to exit from the Castle's side) Then you'll go south towards Tirana staying relatively close to the Adriatic. You might want to stop in Kruja (if you're interested in medieval history) then You can chose to visit Tirana. It's a chaotic city, pollution levels are high, a lot of dust, and the traffic is crazy. Tirana too is a pretty strange city. It would be very hard for me to find a way to define it. Imagine a city built for 250 000 people (1990) thats find it's population trippled in just a few years. There has been (and still continuous) a huge amount of building new residence houses all over the place... You might want to witness all this by yourself, but be sure that you are going to lose a day in there at least :) once you get in. On a positive note, Tirana is a very lively city for sure. There's always noise and young people on the streets. Next stop: Durrës. Second biggest city, it's only 40 km west of Tirana, and on the Tirana-Durres axis is located most of the industry in the country. Has a much longer history, has always been an important port in the Adriatic, and is not the capital only because of unlucky circumstances. [ Durres was capital before WWI. At the end of the war, the Italians still controlled the city and were unwilling to release it. The government chose to settle "temporarily" to a small city in the center of Albania: Tirana, waiting for the Italian's withdraw from Durres. When the italians moved out they decided they were happier with their accomodation in Tirana...] Durres is one of those cities that if you decide to dig up a couple of meters into the ground you have a 50% chance to find some kind of archeological ruin :). If you're interested in archeology you definitely must not miss the Amphitheater and the Archeological Museum. During the summer is the best place to visit it as it too becomes very alive (afternoon and night time). Durres has also an extensive and very frequented beach. Unfortunately it has been spoilt by mass tourism. so I don't reccommend it. If you like clean crisp waters, and you prefer a rocky coastline then you definitely have to continue your road to the south. If you chose this way some amazing sceneries await you in what is called Riviera Shqiptare, (the Albanian Riviera), BUT BE CAREFUL, YOU MUST BE A VERY KEEN DRIVER! I'm warning you, and I want you to take this warning seriously. In general, Albania's roads are mostly narrow, and in not in very good shape, but the main ones can be considered acceptable, i think. You have visited other balkanic countries, so I'm sure you know what to expect. I'm not talking about that. I'm talking about this particular "national road" from Vlora to Saranda via Llogara. It's a very narrow two way road, winding up and down hills and mountains close to the sea. You got rocks on one side and a precipice on the other. It's so narrow at places (especially when you get down from Llogara heading to Saranda), that the passage gets compicated if you find a bus comming in the opposite direction... (see Himarë) By what I have been told the Albanian military have managed to widen the road last year I think to the pass of Llogara (a touristic attraction, and National Park 800m above sea level), but I don't know if they have done anything this year for the rest of the road. If you don't feel like it, there's an alternative road from Vlora to near the Greek border, then head back to Saranda. This way you're gonna just visit Vlora, Saranda and Butrinti missing the rest of the Jonian Riviera. I have to stop writing now as I have to go. Now that I look at it, it looks like I've written a lot, and yet it seems to me I've said only a fraction of the things I wanted to say. Please ask any questions so I can be more specific. I was in a hurry and forgot to sign, jonosphere

I'd certainly discard the first option (*1) Shkoder-Prizren-Skopje) It might look good on the map, but the road from Shkoder to Kukes is one of the worst there is. You'd lose a lot of precious time on that road...
Shkoder-Tirana-Ohrid- was one of the roads I was thinking you could take, and it might work out better for you since you're going to Thessaloniki. It's surely the fastest travelling option, since Shkoder-Tirane and Durres-Ohrid are two of the better mantained national roads (Shkoder-Kukes it's somewhat secondary, and runs in a mountinous terrain). Actually, if you were to travel non-stop you might well get first to Ohrid then to Kukes!!!
Although, I have to say that, if you want to make the most of visiting Albania, I would have recommended you an alternative path. Going from Shkoder to Tirana to Durres then south by the coastline (including the "dangerous" part) till Saranda. Then you can cross the border, Ioannina is the nearest important city, or you can head straight to Thessaloniki. It's roughly 200km longer... might mean a day more in Albania... I think it would be worth it :). I don't know though, you know better, it's your call. jonosphere 23:42, 23 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Laser Perfect edit

Hi, I believe you recently moved the Laser Perfect article to Laser Perfect Inc.. Not a problem. The original page was actually recently approved for deletion because it is obviously spam. I believe a sockpuppet created that article (again), which you've now moved. I've relisted the Laser Perfect Inc. article for deletion (again). You can help by adding your comment to that AfD. No big deal, just wanted to let you know. Rob (Talk) 23:48, 18 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

No problem. I will leave a note on the AfD page. Travelbird 00:04, 19 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion edit

Hey -- in regards to this edit [3], when tagging an article for speedy deletion, please use one of the speedy deletion criteria as a reason. "Non-notability" is not a criterion for speedy deletion, though it's a common misconception. In this case, the article was already under prod; next time, consider adding {{prod2}} instead to endorse the prod. Thanks! Mangojuicetalk 03:42, 23 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion again edit

Regarding the article Kevin Brophy (basketball player), which you tagged for speedy deletion with the reason "it is an article about a person, group of people, band or club that does not assert the importance or significance of the subject", I wanted you to know that I have removed the speedy deletion tag. This article does not qualify for speedy deletion because the article asserts notability as it says that "While in high school he dominated less talented teams" and that he earned a scholarship at the University of Georgia. If you still want the article to be deleted, please use the WP:PROD process. Thanks! Stifle (talk) 22:20, 23 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

I would contest that "dominating less talented teams" is a claim to (real) notablity. When I was in school I was the best football player in my school team - that doesn't make me notable though. If there were (notable) teams listed that he "dominated" or some other kind of substantial claim I would agree with you, but sentences such as "Is the greatest guy in the world" are not valid claims of notability. WP:AFD edit

Regarding Web designing, you didn't make the Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Web designing page, and therefore the AFD page cannot render it correctly. Thanks! --Porqin 12:07, 24 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

I'll fix that. Thank you for reporting the mistake. Travelbird 12:09, 24 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
Acctually what happend was that someone else changed Web designing into a redirect to Web design, deletd the AfD template in the process. Thus it no longer showed up correctly on the AfD page. I deleted the AfD request for the moment, as a redirect is fine by me. Travelbird 12:12, 24 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Found one more: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Homeopathic papers --Porqin 12:11, 24 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

That should have been Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Homeopathic Papers. I fixed the typo. Travelbird 12:16, 24 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Why edit

Why did u put a speedy deletion on? Theres nothing wrong with the article. I removeed it. --Hamjoord 09:43, 25 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

I put a speed delete tag on The Butterworth Show, because a webcast by "bored teenagers" is not remotely notable (see WP:Notability) Travelbird 09:46, 25 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

It is. Its very notable. and il keep deleting them notices because I believe strongly that it should stay. --Hamjoord 09:49, 25 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

I listed it at AfD. Other editors will also look into the matter. Please do not delete the AfD tag. Travelbird 09:53, 25 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Ford Sporting League edit

Hi! I added some information to the article Ford Sporting League and am hoping it might lead you to reconsider your vote/nomination at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ford Sporting League. The Ford Sporting League was a profession league in England in the 1970s. It closed up shop after one season, but it did have some impact on football and perhaps more importantly, notable simply by it being a professional league in a major footballing nation. I’d be happy to discuss the issue further with you if you have any questions. Thanks! Vickser 00:17, 26 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

The problem with this league (apart from the lack or sources on the subject) is that I'm not really convinced that this league is notable enough to be included in an encylopedia. I don't see it having had a major impact on English football. This was esentially a one-off tournament like many others. Is there any information on who participated in this ? Travelbird 00:26, 26 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
So far the only teams I've been able to confirm as having participated as having played are Oldham Athletic [4], currently in League One, Colchester United, playing in the Championship this season, and Fulham F.C. [5], who are now in the Premiership. I don't know much about it yet and am still trying to figure out how many levels below the premiership it was, but those are decent teams, and ₤70,000 was a lot of prize money for 1970. There's enough well sourced information online that we can be certain that's what in the article is factual. My theory is that there probably is enough information out there an encyclopedia article, even if there's not much online. To quote notablity, "Google is not the repository of all knowledge." I'm not convinced I'll be able to make this more than a stub, but I think somebody else someday might. Given access to the right resources, I'm sure a lot exists to be written about it.
Further, I think you might be setting the bar a bit too high with the idea of "major impact." I think the generally accepted line for notability isn't anywhere near as high as major impact on English football for inclusion. Someone would be hard pressed to argue that Michael Brown, for instance, has had a major impact on English football; however, someone would be equally hard pressed to convince the community that his article should be deleted.
Mostly, I think a professional league (no matter how short lived) is encyclopedic. The XFL, from that other football, only lasted one season. Because it was in 2001 rather than 1971, we can google prove its notablity, but I really think the two leagues are actually quite comparable. Both took a popular sport and tried to change the rules a bit. Both failed after one season. Major impact? No. But some impact, something that involved many, something that probably slightly changed the way people of the time looked at the game? Without a doubt. Vickser 01:49, 26 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Ryube edit

Thanks for your message regarding Ryube. Since it appears to be semi-legitimate, but still not particularly notable (although, I may be wrong; I'm going largely by the tiny number of Google hits for "Ryube Village"), I'd nominated it for AfD as gamecruft. Please double check my "wikifying" attempts! edit

Hi travelbird, I just noticed what must be an old notice -- from you? -- to "wikify" the entry on "ThoughtCast", which is an entry I have edited. As I am the producer of ThoughtCast, I went ahead and added several links to the entry. Is there any more I need to do to meet Wikipedia standards? The fellow who made the initial entry may be able to help. He must be more wikipedia-literate than I! Thanks very much, Jenny Attiyeh My username is jenattiyeh, but I don't think I've created a proper account yet, so can you talk to me via thoughtcast's "talk" feature? I do want to improve the entry if I can. Thanks! Jenny
