Edit warring

edit

Hello. This is a message to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions did not appear constructive and has been reverted. Please take some time to familiarise yourself with our policies and guidelines. You can find information about these at our welcome page which also provides further information about contributing constructively to this encyclopedia. If you only meant to make test edits, please use the sandbox for that. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you may leave a message on my talk page. Thank you.

One of the most important expectations here is that all facts are referenced to WP:reliable sources. This is especially important on biographies of living persons. Jlevi (talk) 12:07, 17 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

Edit warring on the "Francis Gurry" page (cont'd)

edit

Hi Torm65, A better source is needed for this statement: "More recently, there have been waves of allegations against Mr. Gurry and his Administration of systematic violation of labour and human rights in WIPO." In my opinion, the source you provided is insufficient, per WP:NOTRELIABLE, because it heavily relies on the personal opinions of the speakers, with all due respect to them. Most of the speakers appear to have been involved in disputes with WIPO, so that they clearly have an apparent conflict of interest to talk about these disputes. See "Questionable sources are those that (... ) have an apparent conflict of interest." in WP:NOTRELIABLE. The other source is a primary source, which should not be used, per WP:BLPPRIMARY. Please do not reinsert the material without discussing this first on the talk page. Otherwise, you might be blocked. Thanks. --Edcolins (talk) 14:32, 21 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

Discretionary sanctions notification

edit

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in articles about living or recently deceased people, and edits relating to the subject (living or recently deceased) of such biographical articles. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

Hello, I'm Woodroar. I noticed that you made an edit concerning content related to a living (or recently deceased) person on Francis Gurry, but you didn't support your changes with a citation to a reliable source, so I removed it. Wikipedia has a very strict policy concerning how we write about living people, so please help us keep such articles accurate and clear. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you! Woodroar (talk) 16:30, 19 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hi Torm65. I've removed your edits at Francis Gurry three times now for violating our guidelines for content about living persons. I've also broken down why each source isn't appropriate at the article's Talk page. In your most recent edit, you stated that my edit "constitutes defamation". Note that Wikipedia has a strong policy against legal threats. At this time, I'm asking you to clarify your statement and/or withdraw your legal threat. I also encourage you to join the discussion about these sources at Talk:Francis Gurry. Per our "BRD" consensus model, the claims in question should not be added back to the article until there's a consensus to include them. If you continue edit warring at the article and don't clarify/withdraw your legal threat, I'll have no other choice than to ask that your account be blocked from editing. Woodroar (talk) 18:14, 19 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Please stop adding unreferenced or poorly referenced biographical content, especially if controversial, to articles or any other Wikipedia page, as you did at Francis Gurry. Content of this nature could be regarded as defamatory and is in violation of Wikipedia policy. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia. see edit summary Ed6767 talk! 15:07, 23 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

To clarify: I do not object to you adding content within WP:NPOV and WP:BLP, but not in the lede section as they are still allegations and there is consensus that these shouldn't be put there Ed6767 talk! 15:09, 23 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

This is your only warning; if you violate Wikipedia's biographies of living persons policy by inserting unsourced or poorly sourced defamatory content into an article or any other Wikipedia page again, as you did at Francis Gurry, you may be blocked from editing without further notice. Giraffer (munch) 09:55, 14 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

You have been warned, taken to ANI, and blocked over adding allegations to an article lead. It is extremely obvious that it should not be re-added given by the large number of warnings on this page. I have given you a 4im and I strongly discourage you from adding it again. Thank you. Giraffer (munch) 10:00, 14 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

This is becoming tedious. --Deepfriedokra (talk) 10:33, 14 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
