Welcome!

Hello, Tony Raymond Cochran, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I noticed that one of the first articles you created or edited appears to be an article about yourself. Creating an autobiography is a common mistake made by new Wikipedians—as this is an encyclopedia, we wouldn't expect to have an article about every contributor. Your user page, however, is a great place to write about yourself, making sure to stay within user page guidelines. Just click your user name at the top of the screen when you are logged in, and edit it normally.

The page you created about yourself may well be deleted from the encyclopedia. If it is deleted and you wish to retrieve its contents, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page. If your contributions to an existing article about yourself are undone and you wish to add to it, please propose the changes on its talk page.

Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{help me}} before the question. Again, welcome! Hello Tony Raymond Cochran. The nature of your edits, such as the one you made to Port of Mobile, gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization.

Paid advocates are very strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are extremely strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.

Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:Tony Raymond Cochran. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Tony Raymond Cochran|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. Magnolia677 (talk) 21:39, 17 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Please do not add or change content without citing a reliable source. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources and take this opportunity to add references to the article. Thank you. Magnolia677 (talk) 21:41, 17 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Please note that I have deleted Tony Raymond Cochran/sandbox as this was inappropriate to the purposes of Wikipedia, as it only served as WP:PROMOTION for yourself. Please do not repeat this. Nick Moyes (talk) 22:54, 17 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

You may be blocked from editing without further warning the next time you vandalize Wikipedia, as you did at Marshall County, Alabama. Daniel Case (talk) 04:32, 18 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Daniel,
I am new to Wikipedia. I apologize for the perceived appearance of "vandalization." I visited Wikipedia pages which were known personally to me. I currently serve on the Board of Directors of the Port. Our Wikipedia page is full of old/outdated information. If I am not allowed to update this page, who is? The first change I made which you are referencing, was a very modest change. I am very new to this process and was trying to learn and understand how to edit. Any help or direction you can provide would be appreciated. Tony Raymond Cochran (talk) 12:26, 20 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
Daniel,
Thank you for protecting the Marshall County page. I am new to Wikipedia. I navigated to pages I have a relationship to/with and made very modest changes based on personal knowledge. I reside in Marshall County, have been active on various volunteer and appointed boards for 45 years. The change I made was very modest, but accurate. If I am not allowed to make changes to this page, can you tell me how to find the person who can? I will contact them regarding needed changes. I guess I misunderstood the purpose of Wikipedia as an open source, community based effort to provide information. Tony Raymond Cochran (talk) 12:30, 20 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of User:Tony Raymond Cochran

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on User:Tony Raymond Cochran, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator.
