Allahabad Urban Agglomeration

edit

The Municipal Board of Allahabad was founded in 1863.[2] As a response to events of 1857, the British planned a new town to be called "Cannington" (after Lord Canning) on the other side of the railway station from the old city;[3] this was laid out on a grid pattern, and become known as the "civil lines" or the "civil station".[4] In 1867, this area and the city were amalgamated for municipal purposes.[2]

Allahabad Municipal Corporation was established in 1959.[5]

Allahabad was one of six cities in Uttar Pradesh declared to have metropolitan status in October 2006.[6]

Allahabad city comes under Allahabad metropolitan area along with Cantonment board and Allahabad Outer Growth (OG) areas.
