Managing a conflict of interest

edit

Hello, Todd Unctious. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Attribution bias, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. MrOllie (talk) 01:43, 16 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Commenting on my talk page

Don't comment on my user talk page again, your input is no longer welcome there. MrOllie (talk) 03:51, 19 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Why? I have tried to have a polite conversation with you about the whole concept of closeness, conflict of interest and the actions of publishing houses and the like. It is at the very centre of what you are doing, you admitted it as much yourself in our conversation on your talk page. Do you still stand by those comments? If you do, then the way you are going about things at the moment is wasting your time. Carry on playing whack-a-mole or stop and think about how to deal with the problem in a much more strategic way.Todd Unctious (talk) 04:00, 19 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Please be careful about what you say to people. Some remarks, such as your addition to User talk:MrOllie can easily be misinterpreted, or viewed as harassment. Wikipedia is a supportive environment, where contributors should feel comfortable and safe while editing. Continuing to post messages on an editor's Talk page after they have instructed you to stop doing so is considered harassment. General Ization Talk 04:46, 14 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

I have always tried to engage in polite discussion when engaging with Wikipedia editors; I do not believe you will find any evidence to the contrary. I realised after posting yesterday that this was indeed the same individual who had requested that I not engage in discussion on his talk page. If this is considered harassment I apologise. However, if I am being asked to consider what I write to people then the message above from this individual, "Don't comment on my user talk page again, your input is no longer welcome there". falls well below the standard I would expect from a Wikipedia editor. If I am not permitted to engage directly with this particular editor then would it not be better if it was passed to someone who does want to engage in a polite dialogue?
