WP L&O Review

Hi there, Tivinjd! My name is Arial and I am a member of the Wiki Project Limnology & Oceanography. Just to give a bit of background on myself, I am a freshwater ecologist, though I generally study streams and watershed networks. I have read through your great contributions to the Wikipedia article on Freshwater Marshes, and have provided some review comments below for you to consider.

• First, I want to start by complimenting the author(s) on their wonderful contribution to this article. The original article (which is an important one!) definitely lacked detail and was not a useful picture of freshwater marshes. The additional information presented in the author’s sandbox is greatly expanded, and the authors did a nice job using common language throughout this article.
• While you have greatly expanded the sections specifically on Soil and Hydrology, there were references in the original article (e.g., Mitsch et al. 2015) that should still likely be included in your contributions.
• I suggest that the authors could clarify in the soil section that they are speaking about marsh-specific soils. As written, it seems like a fairly general description of soil and might be confusing to the general reader.
• The authors should take some time to make sure that they are defining non-common language terms (i.e., jargon) throughout their contributions. For example, in the Hydrology section specifically, I suggest linking or more clearly defining terms like “atmospheric evaporation”, “ and “plant transpiration”, to avoid referencing what could be considered scientific jargon. This is challenging, but will help improve article readability throughout the new sections.
• I especially enjoyed the addition of a Human Impacts section, which was well-written and an excellent addition to this page. Nice work!
• If the author(s) can find it, it might be useful to provide additional images in this article to go along with the new sections. One suggestion would be to add images in the section comparing swamps and marshes. Alternatively, the human impacts section might also be a useful place to provide an image or figure.
• Because the lead section summarizes the entire article, and given that the authors added some really important sections, it would be great to add some of this information (very concisely) here.
