Redirect Pages edit

Hi @TitleEditor:! Thanks for helping to give short descriptions to pages, I just wanted to reach out and let you know when working with redirects, you should put the short desc template under the redirect line, as to not break the syntax, like this diff at the page Bidar fort. See the page WP:SHORTDESC#Short descriptions on redirect pages for more info. Happy editing--IAmChaos 20:34, 29 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for advising me, @IAmChaos. TitleEditor (talk) 19:33, 20 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

None edit

Hello! Per WP:SDNONE, the short descriptions of those list articles should be 'None". Masterhatch (talk) 20:25, 20 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Ah, I was unaware of that. Thank you for informing me, @Masterhatch. TitleEditor (talk) 23:22, 20 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Short descriptions repeating the title edit

Hi! First off all, I want to thank you for your contributions to short descriptions and I don't want this message to discourage you from editing those. While most of your short descs are good, you may have noticed that I recently reverted a few of your edits or replaced short descriptions you added with "none" because they were simply/mainly duplicating the title (see WP:SDDUPLICATE and WP:SDNONE; three examples: [1], [2], and [3]). Since the edits I reverted were made after the last notice to you about this (section above this one), I wanted to, again, make you aware of the possibility of a "none" short desc. Specifically related to the short descs you added and I reverted or changed: generally, if the best short desc you can come up with is "Overview of [article title]", "none" is likely the better choice. Once again, thanks and keep editing! Felida97 (talk) 20:30, 20 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Thank you very much for your advice. I often edit things mainly based on the app, which tends to completely lack descriptions at all, and simply has a far more disconcerting add title here making them seem far more "incomplete" in the app than they appear on non-mobile website versions of Wikipedia themselves. As such, I often tend to lean towards add a title then leave it on ascetic reasons, but I definitely see the purpose of leaving them blank. TitleEditor (talk) 03:03, 12 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
I second Felida in that "none" is a better short description than "Overview of [article title]" per WP:SDNONE. Also per WP:SHORTDESC, "a good way to draft a short description" is to use the sentence "[Article subject] is/was a/an/the [short description]." Reusing the title with "Overview of" prefixed in such a manner does not meet the purposes of the short description:
  • to indicate the field covered by the article,
  • to describe (which the title is there to do as well),
  • and, (when it applies,) to disambiguate searches, "especially to distinguish the subject from similarly titled subjects in different fields".
An intentionally blank description doesn't do these either, but then again it's not supposed to because the title is sufficient. Thanks. Anderjef (talk) 03:13, 10 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
I third this, and have reverted your eleven recent "Overview of education in ..." short descriptions for articles like Education in India. Belbury (talk) 07:58, 23 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

April 2023 edit

Hi TitleEditor! I noticed that you recently marked an edit as minor at Demographics of Finland that may not have been. "Minor edit" has a very specific definition on Wikipedia—it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections or reverting obvious vandalism. Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not a minor edit, even if it only concerns a single word. Please see Help:Minor edit for more information. Thank you. SDs edit

Check out WP:SDNONE before changing more of those nones. And please use edit summaries. Masterhatch (talk) 06:00, 26 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

  • Please please please please check out WP:SDNONE. Those short descriptions should remain as "none". The article titles do a sufficient job at describing the article. Masterhatch (talk) 14:12, 26 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
Consider this a final warning on short descriptions and marking significant edits as minor.
If a page already has a shortdesc of "none", you should reflect on whether there might be a reason for someone having written that, before changing it to repeat the title, as you did at Economy of Qatar this month (adding the redundant short description "National economy of Qatar").
If you think the advice is wrong and that all Wikipedia articles should have short descriptions even when they repeat the title, try raising this at Wikipedia talk:Short description. Belbury (talk) 08:56, 22 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
I do not think I've marked those edits as minor, unless the very act of changing a Wikipedia title page's description using the app is considered minor. I've started the talk page at Wikipedia talk: Short description as you've requested. TitleEditor (talk) 01:27, 31 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • Replied at wt:Short description about the pointless overwriting of none. Yes, just stop — GhostInTheMachine talk to me 09:23, 31 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
I've updated my talk page about why I believe that it isn't pointless and further follows the descriptions laid out in the standard of the other economy pages. It seems only edits to the economies of Persian Gulf Arab state economies are considered controversial, while descriptions of far larger economies such as those of the United States and China are considered uncontroversial. TitleEditor (talk) 01:39, 1 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
The economies of China and the US articles are now "None" as they should be. It would be more productive for you to "fix" SDs such as changing the aforementioned articles to None than to incorrectly remove Nones from other articles. Just saying. August 2023 edit

Hello. This is a message to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions, such as the edit(s) you made to Economy of Iraq, did not appear to be constructive and have been reverted. Please take some time to familiarise yourself with our policies and guidelines. You can find information about these at our welcome page which also provides further information about contributing constructively to this encyclopedia. If you only meant to make test edits, please use your sandbox for that. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you may leave a message on my talk page. You have already been asked to stop making these changesGhostInTheMachine talk to me 07:04, 1 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

November 2023 edit

Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia, as you did at Economy of Angola. Your edits appear to constitute vandalism and have been reverted. If you would like to experiment, please use your sandbox. Repeated vandalism may result in the loss of editing privileges. Thank you. — GhostInTheMachine talk to me 22:30, 13 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

Looking at your talk page, many times (including by me), you've been informed of WP:SDNONE and each time you say you understand. But you keep repeating the removal "None". Please stop. Masterhatch (talk) 22:58, 13 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
