Conflict of interest

edit

Hello,

I noticed you appear to be working on article about your self that you intend to add to wikipedia. It is a Conflict of interest to create articles about yourself. I have therefore blanked the article. feel free to add article about people who are not yourself to the wikipedia. thanks -Tracer9999 (talk) 02:59, 11 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

No, what you see is my fixing an article that was posted by someone else about me. I didnt realize that I wasnt allowed to add to the article in question with new or updated information. I dont see how that is a conflict of interest. If the topic of the article is not allowed to correct information then you should also put that in the guidelines.

You were the first post creating the article on October 2010 according to the history. It is generally not advisable that one edits/creates there own article for a number of common sense reasons.

Including, that the person may not be the person they are stated to be and just impersonating them and providing false information,or they are and they may slant the article put themselves in a positive light. everything on wikipedia should be properly sourced in print/media for instance. a person can not be the source for themselves nor decide for themselves if they deserve a wikipedia article. editing any other article is great. just not your own or ones related to you. here is a link to the COI policy. [1]

specifically,

"It is not recommended that you write an article about yourself. If you are notable, someone else will notice you and write the article. In some cases, Wikipedia users write articles about themselves when the more appropriate action would be to create a user page. In these cases, the article is normally moved into the user namespace rather than deleted. If you believe you may be notable enough, make your case on the appropriate talk pages, and seek consensus first, both with the notability and any proposed autobiography."

hope this helps. thanks -Tracer9999 (talk) 17:02, 8 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Jonathan M. Thompson

edit

The article Jonathan M. Thompson has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

notability - working on games or being employed by a game company does not automatically make one notable. article was started by the person who this article is about and edited mainly by IP's

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. I did not create this article, I just edited it. I was not aware that I couldn't do that and that was a mistake on my part (obviously I wasnt paying close enough attention to the rules and I do apologize for that). Do you mind leaving it up as I promise never to touch the article again. I was just trying to maintain some accuracy in the information, but I understand now that it was wrong of me. In any case I have to say multiple times that I DID NOT START THIS ARTICLE, ALL I DID WAS FIX INCORRECT DATA. I was brought to the article from a link posting from ENworld.org... I first received notification on the article on 22 April 2011 from this post - http://www.enworld.org/forum/5537613-post1.html. After that I spent the time trying to edit the file. I guess I wasnt aware that was against the rules because I accidentally overlooked that clause in the rules.Thompsonjm (talk) 17:26, 8 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

I appreciate your dilemma, My problem is this. As it stands there is just no proof of "notability" which is required for a wikipedia article. while it explains your career it does not really explain what about that rises to the point of "notability". (not to say that your not notable just the article does not have any sources to show that you are) I need verifyable third party (unrelated to you) sources to go to bat for the article. That would be respected national publications, news articles, etc talking about you specifically... If you can give me at least three of those references I would be happy to look into the article and source it, appropriately as well as withdraw the request for deletion.

the problem is that no one has added any verifiable sources since the article has been published and the other editor who took over for this articles (BOZ), plea to the forum you posted, has gone unanswered so that leaves the article as it stands as having no sourcing and no notability. let me know if you can come up with some sources attesting to your notability as I have been unable to locate them on my own. thanks -Tracer9999 (talk) 19:08, 8 October 2012 (UTC)Reply
