In general you should not edit an article about you, or somebody you are so close to that you can not be objective. You can also read Wikipedia:Contact us/Article subjects for how to get help if you need it, including an email (which allows non-public communication about serious problems in article). If you see vandalism or unsourced contentious claims, you (like anyone) have a right to remove it yourself, without discussion, but that wasn't the case here.
