Jesse Dylan edits edit

Hello Teapotgeorge, thank you for bringing this to my attention, I have both put in a username change request to be in compliance with Wikipedia's rules, and made some changes to Jesse Dylan's page. I'm very new to Wikipedia, so I'm still learning the ropes. I am making changes to provide a more neutral description, but please advise on other changes you see that will keep the page more neutral. --poespuck (talk) 18:19, 5 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

KV-5 Stonehenge edits edit

Hello Teapotgeorge:

I've written two books on the subjects, both based on the Hopi Creation Story. I lived with the Hopi for four years in the early 70's.

I am not sure why anything new and different is considered to be false or misleading. If you look at my theory I think you will find it to be true.

Here is an article that a friend published after he tried to prove my theory and found it to be accurate, three pages long: http://mondovista.com/changingnorthx.html

The article mentions Stonehenge on the second page.

Thanks Thomas O. Mills — Preceding unsigned comment added by Thomas O. Mills (talkcontribs) 22:42, 15 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

Wonder Years Contest edit

Hello TeapotGeorge. You mention the fact i have a "conflict of interests" How do i set up the page for Wonder Years then without conflicting interests? The page was not bias in any way it was not yelling "COME AND DONATE!"... I am merely telling the story of the charity and what it does. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Irdewehir (talkcontribs) 14:48, 17 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

If the charity is notable someone else will write the article. Wikipedia is not for "telling your story" it's an encyclopedia.TeapotgeorgeTalk 14:51, 17 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

When i say telling a story i mean...showing how the charity started and how it was formed. this is knowledge that makes an encyclopedia. Noun: A book or set of books giving information on many subjects or on many aspects of one subject and typically arranged alphabetically. Im giving information on the charity.

If you read the deletion notice at the top of the article it explains that "it does nothing but promote some entity, person or product and would require a fundamental rewrite in order to become encyclopedic" It is also a copyright vilolation.TeapotgeorgeTalk 15:20, 17 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

Can you please give full details of any way in which my recent edit to the article Cornwall introduced ideas that you assert to be incorrect, or unsupported by evidence? Further, if any ideas that were introduced, which, if not incorrect or difficult to verify, otherwise were not helpful for this online encyclopedia? Reversion of recent alterations to Anglo-Cornish - without discussion and only an obscurantist explanation. edit

Can you please give full details of any way in which my or others recent edit(s) to the article Anglo-Cornish introduced ideas that you assert to be incorrect, or unsupported by evidence? Further, if any ideas that were introduced, which, if not incorrect or difficult to verify, otherwise were not helpful for this online encyclopedia? Muggetypie (talk) 19:25, 20 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

I contend that your recent reversion to a previous version of the Anglo-Cornish article reintroduced ambiguities of English grammar, and other issues that had been removed in a set of revisions you characterise as vandalism, and a spurious linguistic hypothesis (sentence final "yo" for emphasis in Cornish dialect). Muggetypie (talk) 19:33, 20 June 2011 (UTC)Reply
The "linguistic hypothesis" has not yet been backed up by an acceptable reference, but I believe it has been put forward. The dialects where it is in use would be north Cornwall and possibly other districts.--Felix Folio Secundus (talk) 11:06, 21 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

George Nicholson edit

I noticed you put a BLPPROD on George Nicholson (UFC fighter. A bit of digging reveals that George Nicholson is not the UFC light heavyweight champion; that title is held by Jon Jones, who is not set to defend his title until September of this year. I think this is a vanity hoax, especially given the braggadocian text. In fact, Googling I don't see "George Nicholson" and "UFC" on the same page anywhere except this article. At any rate it seems like an obvious hoax. --NellieBly (talk) 01:32, 25 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

If you can indicate how it is different from the previously posted material, contest the deletion by clicking on the button that looks like this:   which appears inside of the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate). Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the article's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Administrators will look at your reasoning before deciding what to do with the page. If you believe the original discussion was unjustified, please contact the administrator who deleted the page or use deletion review instead of continuing to recreate the page. Thank you.

This page should not be speedy deleted because...Previously it was deleted only because of lack of notability. Which i have improved time by adding references from new york times and yahoo finance. Lack time the administrators did not have a problem with the article and was only the case of notability so i have improved on it. RE: Ghandi template edit

Yes, I know. That is a navigation template. I have not created it nor added links to it. I also think that some of the articles listed on that template are not appropriate, but, as I wrote before, it is a navigation template, so we have to remove non-appropriate links/articles from the template and the template from the non-appropriate articles, but we can not remove the template from an article without removing the corresponding link from the template itself or we will "produce" a dead-end page for its navigation. Please, read this when you have time. Thank you! –pjoef (talkcontribs) 20:15, 12 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

Re Adam Leitman Bailey and associated editors edit

We have shown tremendous restraint regarding Adam Leitman Bailey and the whole coterie of associated articles and editors. The articles were just a bit too promotional to be anything but a COI, but I had tried to help out with some earlier edits and thought that it might be possible to explain the issues involved and provide some guidance, which I did early on, providing an example of appropriate sources and an article for attorney who was genuinely notable. Bailey has a more than credible claim of notability, but the article that has emerged is almost entirely puffery. Spinal Tap talked about their amps hitting 11, but this one is in the high teens in terms of being over the top promotionalism, with Bailey coming to the rescue of aggrieved clients, doing everything but wearing a cape and fighting crime. After you and I provided further warnings regarding COI issues, this seems to have snowballed to include a whole new bunch of editors who have been hitting the same network of articles and making similar promotional edits, sockpuppets or meatpuppets who apparently exist as a means to make it look like User:Internalb isn't the only one involved. I provided a far sterner warning on User_talk:Internalb early this morning, making it clear that deletion could well be the result of such chicanery and pasted that same warning to two of the other users that appear to have picked up the Bailey banner. I do sincerely believe from the sources out there that a neutral article about Bailey could be written, but this one ain't it. I know that you have been keeping an eye on this whole situation. I encourage you to continue to do so and to let me know if I can help with any further remedies if you deem them appropriate, and vice versa. Thanks for your work on this one so far. I can't guess what will happen next. Alansohn (talk) 18:57, 20 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

Agreed... I have already asked for a sockpuppet investigation. There are plenty of reliable third party refs out there to support a neutral article but like you say this ain't it!TeapotgeorgeTalk 19:02, 20 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
I missed the flurry of activity this afternoon on the Bailey article. The chutzpah of someone who has been rather explicitly warned that we were aware of the sockpuppetry going on, to create an additional set of sockpuppets to further edit the same article and remove warning tags is hard to believe. The warning message I left on three of his most-frequently used socks could not have been any clearer. The SPI found a whopping 18 different usernames that had all been created from the same puppetmaster and blocked them all, even though some hadn't even been used yet (though I'm sure they were waiting in the wings). Thanks for grabbing this bull by the horns. The articles affected need drastic work, if they can be rectified. Alansohn (talk) 05:02, 21 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

I have replied to your response. I found it interesting, as you have not edited or removed content framed from a negative perspective which cites the article's subject so there is a somewhat inconsistent approach here. I neither like nor dislike what the press has to say on this matter and it is not for you to infer that I do. I do, however, believe that readers have the right to know that such references are subjective. All of the contributors to this article appear to be either current members of IfL or should, by law, be members of IfL - so your point on my membership is moot. It would be like barring a UK taxpayer from contributing to HMRC or referencing HMRC information. I respect entirely your right to edit, but you simply blamket deleted six additions I made on the basis that (in your judgement) my closeness to the topic made me have a conflict of interest. This had nothing to do with "removing content with reliable third party references and replacing them with with your own organisations primary sources". I did no such thing, I added reliable UK govt references to regulations.

I am also interested as to why an individual with "no affiliations or connections with teaching whatsoever" and who is "NOT a member of your (my) group" (no idea what group) would choose to, therefore, act as a moderator for this page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Socialmedium (talkcontribs) 08:34, 4 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

Not vandalism - The.aircraft.expert and Sony Vaio M edit

Hi Teapotgeorge, I'm currently mentoring User:The.aviation.expert so I'm keeping an eye on his talk page and (occasionally) contributions. I was a bit puzzled by your describing this series of edits as vandalism. It appeared to be a good faith effort to improve the encyclopedia, adding an infobox to an article that lacked one, and adding an image (which the article also lacked) that he'd taken himself. You're entirely right that the templates he added didn't help much, but in fact he'd made a good faith effort to explain why he added the cleanup tag (perhaps not a successful effort!), and also the wikify tag does indeed include "add a lead section" as one of its component tasks, which appears to be what he thought needed fixing. I know there have been some serious problems with The.aviation.expert's editing in the past, and I'm sure there might be a few more problems while he learns his way around, but I don't think those particular edits can be seen as vandalism. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 00:44, 9 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

Well, the problem is that such a template would be, umm... unhelpful :-) Receiving a template saying "your edit to article X was unhelpful, please don't make unhelpful edits again" is of no use, since the editor could continue to make what they believe are helpful edits - which might not be. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 14:22, 9 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

TG, the ASA appeal lodged by Optical Express did not appeal the TV advert (as we already changed any confusing content and the revised Padraig Harrington advert has been cleared to broadcast since May 2011), or indeed many of the other points. It appealed point 11, which although ruling was revised by ASA it was upheld. Notwithstanding that only one point was appealed, ASA republished the full ajudication. We feel your edit is sensationalism. Further there is no third party source of any TV ad unless it is reported by press/ASA - and is a matter of record that it has aired on TV with those statements given the space afforded by you towards our ASA history in the Optical Express page - given the confussion and mistrust Rotsmasher's points and tone appear to be promoting, we only wish to point out what we have currently said. --User talk:PKdundee —Preceding undated comment added 21:16, 27 August 2011 (UTC).Reply

Okay, a misunderstanding on your rights. The edit-warring comment is really to do with your history of blindly deleting everything and not just the unreferenced material. What I should have said in hingsight, though, is please assume good faith please don't start an edit war. Nonetheless, thank you for putting comment on the talk page.PKdundee (talk) 21:05, 2 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Creative Barcode edit

I've added an additional external reference to Creative barcode. Does that address your notability concerns?--Nowa (talk) 20:18, 14 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

I understand. What I was referring to, though, was the addition of a reference to Intellectual Property Magazine. Does that satisfy notability concerns? --Nowa (talk) 01:13, 15 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Hi Theroadislong,

I received your note - regarding concern that my edits were marketing-oriented - and noted that you reverted our page back to its original state. I understand that Wikipedia is an online Encyclopedia and was attempting to update our page with an up-to-date description of our work, not market or promote our project, programs, or publications in any way. How might you suggest I rework the text I'd input yesterday so that this does not happen again? If I am assigned to edit the page, how can I ensure that I avoid presenting this information in a way that reads as though there is a conflict of interest?

Thank you, Amy — Preceding unsigned comment added by GHD Editor AMS (talkcontribs) 13:57, 30 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Edit warring discussion edit

I have started a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Edit warring about the WP:3RR violations we've had to deal with at Ian Fleming‎. It's at [2] if you want to comment there. SonOfThornhill (talk) 22:57, 1 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thanks I did notice but do not wish to comment, I find him rather threatening!Theroadislong (talk) 23:01, 1 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
Really? What do you think I'll do to you? I'm a pussycat if you're nice to me, honest! Thanks for your sensible edits to the page on Free Agent, incidentally. I'm not entirely sure why there is an entry for the book at all, but there you go. Jeremy Duns (talk) 15:10, 2 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Michael Cardew edit

Re last edit, Is not the 2012 Harrod biog broadly contributive though...? I was going to put a publisher link but then thought that it implied marketing.. hence the error! Would a link to publisher be ok, or would you prefer a broadsheet review link there? Or another subtitle with the biographies listed? thanks Cazimir (talk) 09:00, 3 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

It would be much better to add some relevant content and then reference it to the book.Theroadislong (talk) 09:07, 3 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
ok. will do - but that means I need to wait till I see the book. If the portrait head of Cardew is featured in there, I'll replace that content which you questioned ages ago, if you are happy that might justify its relevance? thanks Cazimir (talk) 10:54, 4 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Catweazle - external link amendments edit

Hi Theroadislong,

The significance of the link you removed is in the body of the text, however I have changed the link to a specific web page in a similar manner to the relevant Zeta Minor and BFI page links provided, which you may prefer. The link/article referenced is more pertinent and comprehensive than most other links there actually, not only in terms of its complete, in-depth and overall historical outline of the topic for the benefit of those wishing to obtain a greater knowledge and understanding, but also in that it contains the last recorded (and hence most up-to-date) comments of principal cast member and series creator made prior to their deaths in 2010 and 2012 respectively. The referenced work is somewhat pivotal to the legacy in many other ways too, not least in that it also contains the creator's first (and last) recorded comments about his aspirations for a new movie, which is still presently in pre-production stages and very much a reality, along with his further exclusive comments about modern film and television. A link to the relevant 'Catweazle the Movie' website has already been included here for some time but presently contains very little information and no relevant quotes at all from its creator about his hopes for the venture such as those made in the referenced article, which offers a totally accurate, unique and important angle on both the subject's past and future, 'straight from the horse's mouth' so-to-speak. Wikipedia users seeking broader information on this topic are being dealt a great injustice if a link to this article is not included here.

Thanks in advance for your consideration - and, I hope, your understanding Portrait of Jennie (talk) 20:13, 3 May 2013 (UTC).Reply

It would be more beneficial to the article if you added content and referenced it to the website rather than just directing readers off Wikipedia, but you don't seem to be interested in improving the article itself only promoting your link.Theroadislong (talk) 21:30, 3 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

I don't think I can help much with featured article pushes...not experienced enough! Sorry I am not Irish, I did enjoy U2's Joshua Tree VERY much in my youth, but I'm not a huge fan of their recent work, Bob Dylan is my favorite musician.Theroadislong (talk) 20:19, 8 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
I am a huge fan of Dylan's work, I listen to it since I am 16. My favorite albums are The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan and Bringing It All Back Home. How old are you? I am 19.
About the discussion on WP U2 talk page, I was talking about the updating of the Task section at the main page. Miss Bono (zootalk) 20:23, 8 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

A question from a non-native English speaker (me :P)... what does Bono wanted to say with: "Call it a sorbet between courses"??  Miss Bono (zootalk) 20:16, 13 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
Sorbet, is fruited ice it's served to clear the palate (mouth) during a meal.Theroadislong (talk) 20:22, 13 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
Oh, I see. Thanks. Another question (I promise It'll be the last) I was reading in U2 by U2 that Bono was in a house they rented in Germany and a family caught naked and he said: "I was naked as a jay bird". What does it mean?  Miss Bono (zootalk) 20:26, 13 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
It's an American expression. Some say it refers to a new prisoner (bird) being stripped and processed for jail.Theroadislong (talk) 20:36, 13 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Sincere apologies edit

Theroadislong please allow me to apologize for the block on your account. I was investigating the User:Theroadismuchlonger and User:Kelly Pelaou connection based on an unblock request at UTRS and was trying to tie together any potential loose ends. I contacted the original blocking admin and unfortunately cut and pasted your user name instead of that of the similarly named sock account. I have unblocked your account now and offer my sincerest apologies for the error. I will make myself available for a thorough trout slapping at a time of your choosing. I've been in your position before, so I know how it feels. Mea culpa, --Jezebel'sPonyobons mots 00:51, 15 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Kurt Cobain vs. Nirvana 1992 Photo edit

Hey there Theroadisalong. I thought that a full on portrait of Kurt Cobain would be appropriate to intro this article vs. a side-shot of Kurt Cobain playing with Nirvana. I was moving it to the top--I put it in the Nirvana section erroneously, and I was going to replace the Nirvana 1992 photo in the Nirvana section + delete the caption on the Cobain portrait and replace it with just his name and dates. I'm not super-attached to getting this portrait into the article but I'm just wondering why you thought it shouldn't be there? Why should the Nirvana 1992 photo be in there twice? I'm totally open-minded here, I'm just curious about what your logic is on this issue.ThomasMikael (talk) 14:11, 18 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
