May 2017 edit

  Hello, I'm KGirlTrucker81. I wanted to let you know that I reverted one of your recent contributions —the one you made with this edit to Theodor Otto Diener— because it did not appear constructive. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. Hi, I write to you, because the three items that you have removed are essential for comprehension of my message:

  1. Washington State University is not in Prosser, but in Pullman, WA; only its affiliated outlying Irrigation Experiment Station is in Prosser. Please reinsert.
  2. Pipecolic acid IS a rare (or unusual)amino acid, a fact that is important to state.
  3. Ref. No. 8: The senior author's name is Sänger, not Sanger. Please correct. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Theodor_O._Diener (talkcontribs)

Dear Dr Diener edit

I have reverted your last contribution to the article about you. We have bent the rules in the past, mainly out of respect for you — but writing about yourself is against our rules. Even Wikipedia's founder Jimmy Wales does not do this. In future, please make any editorial requests on your article's Talk Page and provide a citation to a reliable source. Also, may I suggest you read this link. Yours, respectfully Graham Beards (talk) 19:35, 5 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

PS. I suggest you read this advice too. Graham Beards (talk) 19:43, 5 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

Dear Dr. Graham Beards;

1. I approve of Wikipedia’s rules and dogmas, but not in their sometimes inflexible applications and particularly not in cases of demonstrable errors, as was the case last time and is now again the case with the “Theodor Otto Diener” page.

2. An important error has persisted in recent earlier versions and the current version of the page---until it was recently brought to my attention: Reference 14 is the source reference for my membership in the US National Academy of Sciences, but not for membership in the New York Academy of Science. Yet, it is falsely used in the page as source reference for the latter.

3. Also, my important membership in the National Academy of Sciences is not listed as one of my recognitions, while the unimportant membership in the New York Academy of Science is listed (as stated, with a wrong source reference)

4. The easiest correction is to delete my membership in the New York Academy of Science and to add my membership in the US National Academy in front of the already existing source reference, as I have attempted to do and you have rejected.

5. Alternatively, both memberships may be included as Honors, each with a correct source reference. This, obviously, was the original intent of the page’s author and is now the preferred correction.

6. I request that the page be corrected as intended by its authors, that is by option No. 5 above.

I thank you for your continued interest and valuable help in this matter.

Dear Dr Diener, I have corrected the article. I have not reinstated the New York Academy as I cannot find your name on this list [1]. Your edit was reverted because you deleted half a citation and left behind an orphaned </ref> tag.[2]. I am happy to make any other changes to the article, preferably supported by a citation. Just leave a message here – I will see it. Best wishes. Graham Beards (talk) 15:13, 6 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

Letter to Graham Beards: Dear Dr. Beards, Thank you so much for finalizing the correction needed in my bio page "Theodor Otto Diener" and invitation to send you additional corrections, if thought necessary. The page is now, however, factually correct and, as far as I am concerned, not in need of further changes. Should a future author insert incorrect statements, I should be happy to notify you. I very much appreciate your help and apologize for my still abysmal lack of the intricacies of "Wikipedese." With best wishes, TedTheodor O. Diener (talk) 15:10, 7 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
