October 2023 edit

Hello, I'm 49ersBelongInSanFrancisco. I wanted to let you know that one or more external links you added to Santhosh George Kulangara have been removed because they seemed to be inappropriate for an encyclopedia. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page, or take a look at our guidelines about links. Thank you. 49ersBelongInSanFrancisco (talk) 05:53, 20 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for reaching out. Could you explain why it was removed? I was adding it as a reference so that the template on the eminent entrepreneur can be removed. You can suggest to me how to take that template off. I only wanted to add more references. Happy to learn (Themisislegal (talk) 06:56, 20 October 2023 (UTC))Reply

Please do not add unreferenced or poorly referenced information, especially if controversial, to articles or any other page on Wikipedia about living persons, as you did with this edit to P. K. Abdul Gafoor. Thank you. Materialscientist (talk) 07:45, 20 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

I was adding MES Official Website and Manorama news media's links. There was only a blogspot available for this. When this was added - http://indianmuslimlegends.blogspot.com/2012/04/328-dr-padiyath-k-abdul-gafoor.html - wikipedia told to take it down. Thats how it became poorly sourced. Is researching and trying to get a better english news link with mainstream media (Themisislegal (talk) 07:51, 20 October 2023 (UTC))Reply
Will try to get better links for this (Themisislegal (talk) 07:47, 20 October 2023 (UTC)) Themisislegal (talk) 07:51, 20 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
Could find a much more proper source - News 18 regarding the Father Son relation of PK Abdul Gafoor and PA Fazal Ghafoor - https://www.news18.com/news/india/neurologist-film-buff-periyarist-the-man-who-banned-burqas-in-muslim-educational-society-institutes-2136381.html
Below is given a a paragraph from News 18 article - "
Dr Gafoor takes this from his family. His paternal grandfather was among the first Muslims in the state to have sent his two daughters, Amina and Fathima, to college.
His father founded MES in 1964. “My father, the first Muslim student in a Kerala government medical college, was the real leader of the Renaissance in Kerala. He practised what all others could only preach.”
Gafoor took up over MES’ reins following the death of his father in 1984 at the age of 57.
Registered under the Societies Act, MES has a total membership of twenty-thousand. The society also has a women's and youth wing. Elections within the society are held at the unit, taluk, district and state levels. It currently runs 150 educational institutions, including 35 colleges among which are several medical, engineering and other professional institutes. 60 per cent of the one lakh students at these institutes are Muslims and 60 per cent among them are women."
I hope this is ok as reference. and further adding to the reference of Fazal Ghafoor being president - http://meskerala.com/office-bearers/ Official MES website is given. Hope this is ok. feel free to correct and modify (Themisislegal (talk) 08:24, 21 October 2023 (UTC))Reply

"References" v "External links" edit

Based on your notes above (and some edit summaries) it appears that there may be some confusion about how to source and add references. And the difference between a reference and an external link. Please consider reading WP:REFB (for help on how and where to add references). And WP:EL (for an explanation on how and where to add external links). If, after fully reviewing both guidelines, you are still unclear on the difference (purpose/formatting/placement) between the two, consider asking WP:HELPDESK.

However, to put it plainly:

  • this addition is not how references are added. What you've done here is added an additional external link. Not a reference.
  • this addition, while perhaps more correctly formatted as a reference, this link does not support the text you placed it alongside. (There is zero indication that the person mentioned on that webpage has ANY connection [familial or otherwise] to the subject of that article. For all anyone knows, they are just two people who happened to share the same surname. Along with, presumably, thousands of others.)
