@TheSLEEVEmonkey: Good work cataloguing all this. A few more things:

Thanks for this! I've added them to the list. Yes, when checking sources I noticed that a lot of their contributions were direct copy/pastes from the sources... Looks like it's going to take some time to set it all right! TheSLEEVEmonkey (talk) 12:12, 30 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

South Bromley, Tower Hamlets is another sock-written article where an existing redirect (South Bromley) points somewhere else. Looks like the usual mix of paragraphs copied/moved without credit from other articles, copyright violations (I've just deleted one paragraph), transport details and local business news. --Lord Belbury (talk) 13:18, 30 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

Thanks - added to the list. The idea of "South Bromley" actually gave me a chuckle at least.... TheSLEEVEmonkey (talk) 13:31, 30 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

Found a couple more: User:Rocky deeplevel (same focus on east London, bus timetables and names of WW2 factions) and User:86.157.156.151. Probably not worth reporting the first, as it hasn't been active since February. --Lord Belbury (talk) 10:51, 12 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

Clapton, London

edit

Looks like Clapton, London is this user copying a few bits of Lower Clapton and Upper Clapton (both of which are longer-standing articles dating back to 2004 and 2005) to make one article. They've never touched Lower Clapton and made only superficial location tweaks to Upper Clapton. Might be worth just changing Clapton, London to a disambiguation page that points at the two Claptons. --Lord Belbury (talk) 11:59, 30 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

Actually, reading the Upper/Lower Clapton articles they're both quite short, and repeat the same History section. Maybe it is (unless they are significantly distinct districts of London!) worth a proper merge of both into a single, new Clapton article. I've raised a formal merge proposal to get the attention of anyone watching either article --Lord Belbury (talk) 12:12, 30 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
As far as I'm aware there is no "official" division between Upper and Lower Clapton, it's just a local understanding. There is a convenient division of Clapton at the Lea Bridge roundabout, with the main road to the south called Lower Clapton Road and the main road to the north called Upper Clapton road - I think the distinction comes from this.
I don't think there is any historical context to this separation and I'm fairly certain it's more of a question of perceived status and just a naming convenience, used by estate agents and the like. I think your merge suggestion is a good idea. TheSLEEVEmonkey (talk) 12:25, 30 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
