Speedy deletion nomination of Daniel Law

edit

A tag has been placed on Daniel Law requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a clear copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. ttonyb (talk) 06:02, 22 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

  • I have reviewed the article; it's a fine inspirational story, but (even disregarding its copyright status) I don't think it's a suitable topic for an encyclopedia. There are thousands of immigrants in the world, and a similar article could have been written about each of them; how is this one notable?
The primary notability guideline for Wikipedia is: did the subject attract non-trivial coverage in third-party reliable sources? (See the inclusion (notability) guidelines for biographies.) I am of the opinion that the article not just doesn't meet the criteria, but meets the speedy deletion criteria for failure to assert notability or significance. - Mike Rosoft (talk) 06:45, 22 September 2010 (UTC)Reply
    • Another user has reached the conclusion that the article isn't a candidate for speedy deletion for a lack of a claim of notability, and I tend to agree. On the other hand, you can't copy unfree copyrighted content to Wikipedia. If (and only if) you are the copyright holder, then e-mail the Wikipedia mailing list to verify that you release the text under the CC-BY-SA and GFDL licenses (or compatible terms); see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for more details. Unless the text's copyright status is verified (preferably, by putting a notice of the release on the source website), the article WILL be deleted. - Mike Rosoft (talk) 13:30, 22 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Welcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but you removed a speedy deletion tag from Daniel Law, a page you have created yourself. If you do not believe the page should be deleted, you can place a {{hangon}} tag on the page, under the existing speedy deletion tag (please do not remove the speedy deletion tag), and make your case on the page's talk page. Administrators will look at your reasoning before deciding what to do with the page. Thank you. Everard Proudfoot (talk) 06:59, 22 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia, as you did with this edit to the page Daniel Law. Such edits constitute vandalism and are reverted. Please do not continue to make unconstructive edits to pages; use the sandbox for testing. Thank you. WikiTome Talk 07:07, 22 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Please do not remove speedy deletion notices from pages you have created yourself, as you did with Daniel Law. Please use the {{hangon}} template on the page instead if you disagree with the deletion, and make your case on the page's talk page. Thank you.

Please note that minor wording changes do not make the text any less copyrighted. To remove the copyright issue, the text has to be rewritten entirely. Please see the information above. Thank you. bonadea contributions talk 07:52, 22 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Please stop removing speedy deletion notices from pages that you have created yourself. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Jay-Sebastos (talk) 13:38, 22 September 2010 (UTC)Reply
