TemplateSearch

The templateSearch is complete, or close to it :) It's possible to add new templates, and search for them, but the search still uses WHERE LIKE for now, rather than MATCH. User:The Blue Lion

Here's the evidence --

1. The Blue Lion uploaded (as now-deleted Image:HUNK.jpg) this exact image from EddieSegoura.com. In fact all eight of the (now-deleted) Voltron images he uploaded were from eddiesegoura.com, I think. Certainly ALLURA.jpg was this one, right down to the "arus@lava.net" watermark.
2. The edits have been deleted, but 66.108.223.59 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log) -- who nearly self-identified as Eddie with his question on AN/I -- also messed around with the copyright tags on at least four of those same Voltron images.
3. In the middle of all his Voltron editing, The Blue Lion made this edit, removing a {{notability}} tag from Rainbow Shops. Rainbow Shops has been of great interest to Eddie lately, see WP:ANI#Exicornt_vandals.
4. A third supporting coincidence: Creating Category:Wikipedians who watch The Price is Right (And slamming somebody into it.) The Price Is Right is another long-time interest of EddieSegoura.

Admin abuse

There is an administrator who has been blocking people indefinitly for minor infracrions. Is there any way to report this user? Albott 06:39, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

The administrator is user:ohnoitsjamie. Hes blocked several of my accounts and I've received numerous reports from people I know in real life as well as in the wikipedia community who claim they have been blocked indefinitely without warning for extremely minor offenses (usually not even vandalism). If you try to discuss any blocks from a new account, he blocks you indefinitly. Albott 06:51, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

I was not circumventing a block. I was originally blocked submitting false information (although i didnt know it was false). This was some time ago as a matter of fact I cant recall the name of the account. A friend I know was blocked for blanking a page ONCE. He was given no warning or temporary block. He was blocked indefinitly. It was wrong of him to vandalize a page, but this did not warrant an indefinite block. I know several people who were mistaken as sockpuppets of some other user, and were also blocked indefinitly. Anyone who is ever blocked by ohnoitsjamie is blocked indefinitly. If you try to discuss the block, he'll basically tell you "Im an administrator and your not so I can do whatever I want. Albott 07:08, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

McKeon adspam

Thanks for responding. I've dealt with vandalism before, but not link spam, it was late in the day and I was curious what kind of response the helpme tag would generate. If I find a problem I don't have the energy to deal with myself at that moment in time, can I just dump it at the town pump or something like that? What I really wanted was a way to apply a tag to the user talk page calling in the most efficient cleanup crew. If I just tag the page I found, odds are the associated spamverts are missed. I honestly can't see why the students here need to vandalize edit Wikipedia, and I don't want them causing any more problems with it than needed. Headings in RfA

Hi Tangotango. There is currently some discussion at Wikipedia talk:Requests for adminship#Subheadings in RfA with a bot updated TOC about using subheadings in RfAs for "Support", "Oppose" and "General comments" sections and using a bot to hide these extra headings from the TOC. There seems to be good agreement on that, and the only issue seems to be the fact that bots may be confused if the RfA's are modified to include headings.

Would it be possible to modify the code of Tangobot to also accept headings (level four, "====Support====") in addition to the current format, which is '''Support'''? That would be very much appreciated. You can reply here. Thanks. Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 21:43, 14 January 2007 (UTC)

I've just checked the code and it does look like RFALib 2 supports level-four headings (it supports so many different variations I can never be too sure :P) However, if you'd like to see if it will, please make a test page and feed it through the RfA Analysis tool here: http://tools.wikimedia.de/~tangotango/rfa.php, as it uses the same library. It get's worse

There is still more copyvios in the article Periyar, such as Periyar_Ramasami#Self-Respect_Movement:_1925-39, which is a copy-paste from this article [1] adn there are many other instances. I noticed a few hours after making some changes to my band's wikipedia entry that the entire page was deleted. I am just curious as to why it was taken away since my band is a hard working and completely real project. I'm confused about how things are deemed credible or uncredible on wikipedia. At what "stage" does a band become notable enough to have an entry. There are hundreds of band entries on wikipedia who have less notoriety or are less well known than my own project. what/who deems them more suitable? Deletion of article Bad Flirt (band)

I noticed you speedy deleted the article Bad Flirt (band) and have cited above notability as the reason. I believe you have incorrectly deleted this article and am hereby requesting that you restore it immediately. The Wikipedia:Notability (music) policy specifically states that failing to satisfy notability is not crtierion for speedy deletion. If you wish to initiate the delection process for this article, you are ofcourse entitled to do so, however the speedy deletion of this article was not justified. Thanks. Howdy- I got a message about this too. It's not clear to me whether they meet music criteria, or what level of media coverage this band has got, but it's definitely in a different category than the typical garage band articles we speedy. Tangotango, if you've no objection, I'm in favor of undeleting this to give it some time. If it looks questionable, the notability issue could be decided at AFD. This is a long-overdue thank you for taking the time to help me through all the troubles I had in the seemingly simple task of adding a photo to my first article (Jack Turner (writer)) back in November 2006. (In case you don't remember the situation, the dialog is still on MetaWiki.)

You helped me get off to a great start, because in the two months since, I've made around 2700 edits, uploaded around 95 images, and participate in Wikipedia, Commons, and WikiBooks. Seriously, without your help that night, probably I would have given up in frustration, and those edits (for better or worse) would never have been made. Hi there. Thanks, but I'm pretty self-sufficient now. In fact, I have three adoptees now that I mentor. My biggest problem is that I spend way too much time here now. :-) I still think that the documentation for uploading to Wikipedia is too complicated for most newbies to really understand, and that might be why the image section is full of so many problem images. Someday I might even get around to improving those instructions. Oh! There is actually something you might be able to advise me on. I flagged a template for deletion several days ago on Commons, but it's still there. I know things move at a slower pace at Commons than at Wikipedia, but I'm beginning to wonder if anything will ever happen. Is there a better way to flag such things in the future? Do you have any idea what language the text is on the page? I'd say it's all Greek to me, but even I can tell it's not Greek writing. :-) --Willscrlt (Talk·Cntrb) 09:37, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
