How does X work?

edit

We have been attempting to create a Biography page for our founder: Jim Jewels for weeks now and all it has gotten us was the Jim Jewels USER page BLOCKED including this NEW page under the same IP that we share in the network.

We are not attempting to spam anything on here at all we really value what you offer and what to also take advantage of it but it seems no matter how we approach this it always goes wrong.

Is there someone, who can help or create the pages for us, so this way we can make sure that everything is the way it needs to be and his bio and info will remain on the site?

Please let us know how we go about this.

Alright, first of all you are not blocked. If you were you would not be able to edit any page except this one. The page Jim Jewels has been deleted twice for being blatant advertising or promotion. Please be aware that Wikipedia is not here to promote anyone or anything. We are an encyclopedia. We only care about the facts, nothing else. Second, articles here must be summaries of published, independent, reliable sources that have editorial oversight and a history of fact checking. Things like newspapers or magazines that have really discussed the person is what we are looking for. Blogs, social media, things written by the person or things written by people who have a close connection to the person (you) do not count. For more information on this requirement please see WP:42. If the person does not have these then they do not meet our criteria for inclusion.

If you want to try again that is fine, but please use the article wizard located here: WP:WIZARD to create a draft. By doing this, another experienced editor can take a look at it before it is published and ensure that it meets our standards. I also recommend you read WP:Your first article which will walk you through a lot of the common pitfalls that people make when making articles.

Finally, because of your financial conflict of interest in this matter you must post on your user page (User:Jeinetwork) the following code {{paid|employer=Jim Jewels}}. This is non-negotiable and must be done for you to be in compliance with our Terms of Use. If you want more help, stop by the Teahouse, Wikipedia's live help channel, or the help desk to ask someone for assistance. Majora (talk) 22:55, 9 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

This is where i am confused again because we did reference and article that had him on there and everything in the biography had to do with him. Especially the latest version that was posted. Also i am not considered an employer i am more of an independent contractor for the network.

Do i still need to list myself as a paid employee?

This is a reference that he was mentioned in in the papers is that considered a reference or not: http://thephoenix.com/boston/music/4524-idol-threats

Please let me know IF THAT IS CONSIDERED good or not of if i can set up the info on some place have it reviewed before i make it live.. This seems to be an impossible task to get a simple page up on the site. As for the block, yes this page was blocked including our Jim Jewels User page, because that one can not post either. It's the IP address that is Blocked.

Jeinetwork (talk) 23:30, 9 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

The problem was not the referencing. The problem was the way the article was written it. Does, Jewels was determine to learn and speak the English language as student at the Brooks Hobbs Magnet School in Medford, Massachusetts where he attended the Six Grade. sound like something that would be in the Encyclopedia Britannica? Also, the entire article was more or less unsourced, which is really not how it should be done especially for a biography on a living person. Wikipedia have very strict rules regarding that and all material on those types of pages must be sourced or must be left out. No exceptions. You had one reference, the above link, which is fine and looks like it meets our standards but we would need a lot more to prove that the person meets our criteria for inclusion.

As for the paid employee notice, yep you still have to do it. Independent contractors still fall into that category as far as we are concerned. Like I said, you are welcome to try again but I highly recommend you use the wizard and create a draft so another editor can take a look at it. If you want more help, stop by the Teahouse, Wikipedia's live help channel, or the help desk to ask someone for assistance. Majora (talk) 00:03, 10 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

Ok.. What ever else you need i can do. I will add that information. What else will i be able to use as a source to prove that the person is real and do i need to refer to him as in the present more then the past?

This is all new to me and we really want to get his biography up on here and we keep reading, trying again and failing. What if i am unable to find other News which had him in there, what else can be used?

Jeinetwork (talk) 00:33, 10 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

It is not really if the person is real and you would refer to him in the present since he is still alive. It is whether or not the person meets our criteria for inclusion. The general criteria can be found here, WP:GNG, while the more specific criteria can be found here, WP:MUSICBIO. It must be proven that the person meets that criteria though reliable sources. If you cannot find additional sources then unfortunately, there is just nothing we can do and he doesn't meet our standards for inclusion. For a guide on what sources are acceptable please see WP:Identifying reliable sources. And please feel free to ask as many questions as you want. That is what we are here for. --Majora (talk) 00:39, 10 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

What about the movies has has done, can the IMDB credits be used?

Jeinetwork (talk) 01:40, 10 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

A lot of people don't know this but IMDB is user generated. Much like Wikipedia. So it is not technically reliable as anyone can put anything on those pages. I have seen people change things quite frequently on IMDB (usually to something incorrect). Also, just because he has been in movies does not mean he meets our criteria for inclusion. I have been an extra in a movie before and I don't qualify for an article. What we are looking for is in depth discussion. A simple listing of things the person has done doesn't really do it for us. There has to be more. --Majora (talk) 01:47, 10 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

am aware of how IMDB works, but i thought they didn't approve anything until they check and verified that the person actually did work on the project from a paycheck and so on. Also Can a video be used, from a notable person off youtube? Let's say someone he is working with like Chad Beatz: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tastemaker_Music

In the Jewels off, we just uploaded it to out youtube channel so have a look and let us know, here is the video clip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jr83LBoqFSk

Jeinetwork (talk) 17:50, 10 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

It would help if you did not put your question within the HTML comment; otherwise it's rather well-hidden. YouTube generally is not a reliable source since it is not subjet to editorial oversight. This particular video is no exception to that rule. Since it's uploaded by JEInetwork, it's not an independent source either.
I don't think this has been mentioned before, but there is an issue with your username: It is the name of an organization and suggests shared use. Wikipedia does not allow shared or "group" accounts. Only one person may have access to an account, and the username should reflect that. You should request a change of username via Special:GlobalRenameRequest. I have to note that you haven't addressed the issue of disclosing your employer, client and affiliation, either, although that's required by the Wikimedia Foundation's Terms of Use. Please do so; otherwise you might be blocked from editing. Huon (talk) 18:59, 10 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

I have added the information you suggested and added the employer info.

This page is not shared by anyone. Just myself..

Next question is.... Jim Jewels has a new album coming out, so they are about to be a lot of articles on him. Will this link and interview be considered a reliable source? Please have a look so i can save it to add to his page once we have all the information to get his bio up, here is the link: http://avaliveradio.com/behind-the-music-j-jewels-on-itty-bitty-bum-bum/

Interviews are PRIMARY sources, and are strongly discouraged unless the information gathered is uncontroversial. I would wait until you have a reliable source that verifies the information, most importantly because Wikipedia is not a crystal ball used to foretell future events. I am trying to create a new page according to all the rules, please have a look and help me figure out what i need to do to make it fit what wiki is looking for: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Jim_Jewels

Jeinetwork (talk) 17:04, 7 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

The one major thing I have noticed about your draft is that there are large sections of unreferenced text. Biographies of living persons must have inline citations for pretty much everything. If you can't find a reference for a fact, you should remove it. I have added a draft tag to the top of the page, so after you have added some more references, you can use the "submit" button to submit your draft for review. If you want more help, stop by the Teahouse, Wikipedia's live help channel, or the help desk to ask someone for assistance. Primefac (talk) 17:13, 7 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for getting back to me. I have made minor changes. Can you please have a look now? I removed promotional info, also how do i add categories and photos that are already uploaded?

Jeinetwork (talk) 17:38, 7 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

I'm having a look at it now, I'll get back to you in a few minutes. LoudLizard (📞 | contribs | ) 17:54, 7 May 2016 (UTC)Reply
I've had a look at the article. It is better, but still doesn't have enough references - I don't think it will be accepted as an article if submitted as a draft in its current state. Please try to find a reference for each of the times I have put "citation needed" and for each of the films and singles. To add categories, you just need to put the category in the following format to the bottom of the page when in the source editor:

[[:Category:Category name]]
To add images, please follow this tutorial.
Hope that helps. If you need any further help, please don't hesitate to ask. LoudLizard (📞 | contribs | ) 18:09, 7 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

I removed the Uncited content, can someone please have a look again and tell me what else i need to do in order to get this approved? Jeinetwork (talk) 19:05, 7 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

The content of the "Early life" section to a very large degree is not based on the given reference. The "Career" section is a little better but also contains quite a few unreferenced claims. That will need to be fixed; the article should summarize what the sources report about Jewels. The amount of coverage is rather small, though.
On an entirely unrelated note, your username is the name of an organization. Wikipedia does not allow shared or "company" accounts; only one person may have access to an account, and the username must reflect that. Please request a change of username, or you might be blocked from editing. If you want the username to be associated with the company, a username such as "Suzy at JEI Network" would be acceptable.
