Welcome to Wikipedia!

edit

Welcome to Wikipedia, a free and open-content encyclopedia. I hope you enjoy contributing. To help get you settled in, I thought you might find the following pages useful:

Don't worry too much about being perfect. Very few of us are! Just in case you are not perfect, click here to see how you can avoid making common mistakes.

If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the New contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type {{helpme}} on your user page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions.

Wikipedians try to follow a strict policy of never biting new users. If you are unsure of how to do something, you are welcome to ask a more experienced user such as an administrator. One last bit of advice: please sign any dicussion comment with four tildes (~~~~). The software will automatically convert this into your signature which can be altered in the "Preferences" tab at the top of the screen. I hope I have not overwhelmed you with information. If you need any help just let me know -- and don't forget to tell us about yourself and be BOLD!

I noticed your contributions to some Raleigh Cougars-related articles. Thanks for adding to Wikipedia and I hope you will continue contributing.

Once again, welcome to Wikipedia!

Orphaned fair use image (Image:0033-Cougars.web.JPG)

edit
  This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:0033-Cougars.web.JPG. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image can be used under a fair use license. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --Durin 13:25, 11 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Could you edit Luol Deng and Steve Nash? thanks —The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:203.214.50.225 (talkcontribs).

Hello. I don't see anything overtly incivil about the above comment by 203. I checked both the articles he insists that you edit and both are articles on basketball players. Or is it that I'm missing something? Also he has only made one comment on your page [1]. He is a very new editor and needs some guidance, so with all newbies, it is best to excuse mistakes made (including the editing of your user page). If you suspect that 203 is user:Downwards you may request a checkuser. --Inahet 08:21, 8 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi Inahet, your eyes may deceive you. I will request a "checkuser", because I do believe that the unsigned user is not new but a veteran user who has hounded me before. The incivility I referred to was in making comments on my user page User:Sugar Daddy as opposed to this page. That behavior is specifically mentioned in WP:CIVIL. This user (along with the other user who I believe has made this one his sockpuppet) has made a practice of re-editing every article that I edit by reviewing my edit-history. While I guess there is nothing wrong with that, we now have a dispute about the Johnny Newman article. The user has repeatedly reverted out content that I added without explanation and refuses to discuss. Also, though the comments on this and my user page look innocuous, that is only because they lack context.Sugar Daddy 16:16, 9 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Helping out with the Unassessed Wikipedia Biographies

edit

Seeing that you are an active member of the WikiBiography Project, I was wondering if you would help lend a hand in helping us clear out the amount of [unassessed articles] tagged with {{WPBiography}}. Many of them are of stub and start class, but a few are of B or A caliber. Getting a simple assessment rating can help us start moving many of these biographies to a higher quality article. Thank you! --Ozgod 22:49, 23 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

ArbCom elections are now open!

edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
