LOL

Hi SOI,

See DRV for my full comment, but I know exactly what I said. :) The Userbox conflict will end one way or the other, and if my taking a stand helps, let it help. Userify any (non-personal attack/reality-compatible) userbox to me, and we'll see if anybody wants to delete in my userspace. I know Cyde Weys -- at least -- supports making me a userbox home (it was his idea), so go to town. Best wishes, Xoloz 19:28, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

Already saw it and left a reply. By the wording of your comment it looked like you might have thought these were template space items. Thanks for clarifying that. Still, I hope it can be settled without anyone being desysoped. --StuffOfInterest 19:32, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

Userboxes

Absolutely, consider it done. I wasn't aware of that policy, thanks for alerting me to it. Nice meeting you and happy editing! Cduffner 01:00, 16 June 2006 (UTC)

Category:American slaveholders

If you can PLEASE get rid of "Category:American slaveholders" I'm just imagining how long the list will get for Brazil and Egypt when their lists start up. 132.241.245.245 00:18, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

If you don't think it should exist, then considering nominating it at WP:CfD. That is the proper way rather than vandalizing its page. --StuffOfInterest 00:19, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

Civilians & Hezbollah

It might work, but it seems awkward. I was in favor of just writing Lebanese, though Osgoodelawyer didn't think it would be fair to exclude the other nationalities, despite their inclusion in the casualtie ssubsection. Any thoughts? TewfikTalk 23:57, 16 July 2006 (UTC)

I don't think it would be good to break out the civilian casulties into nationalities. However, it might work better to write "civilians & combatants" rather than "civilians & Hezbollah" to distinguish between non-fighters and fighters. Some are legitimate military targets while others are unfortunately those caught in the cross fire. --StuffOfInterest 00:00, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

Denver 2008

Hey, how's it goin'? I'm gathering support from Wikipedian Democrats to help bring the 2008 DNC to my hometown of Denver. If your interested, just post {{User:1ne/Userboxes/Denver2008}} on your page. Anyhow, have a good one. Editor19841 23:57, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

Sorry, but that's too off wiki for me to use. Besides, I actually like two of the three cities for possible hosts. --StuffOfInterest 00:32, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

hi

so who are you if you are not an administrator - god that must be a boring job.. is it volunteer work? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Sambolino (talkcontribs) .

No, I'm just another editor. Take a look at the first post on your talk page and you'll see there are lots of ways to help out. --StuffOfInterest 20:15, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
so i am going to be stopped from editing —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Sambolino (talkcontribs) .
Most likely, yes. You'll probably be blocked for 48 hours being that you had some constructive edits. If you had done only vandalisms then your accounts would have likely been permanently blocked. --StuffOfInterest 20:27, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
ok cool... i cant be bothered to make a new acount —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Sambolino (talkcontribs) .
Good luck. But please read up a bit on the policies and etiquete for Wikipedia. The message at the top of your talk page has lots to get you started. --StuffOfInterest 20:37, 20 July 2006 (UTC)

cheers for everything... I have firmly changed my ways and i am now infact contributing to this project and have created a few stubs for others to expand --Sambo freeman 20:57, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

Great news! I see you are having a bit of trouble with your early stubs. Don't get discouraged. Try and put a little more text in up front, look at the style of other articles for forming an introduction, and tag the articles with {{stub}} (or one of its suboridnates). It takes a bit to get used to but it will work. Saw the stub you started on Pedophile Party. Remember seeing them in the news not too long ago. Good luck expanding out the article. If you need help with it just let me know and I'll try to point you along on getting references setup and the text expanded. --StuffOfInterest 21:24, 27 July 2006 (UTC)
thanks for the clean up of the stub... and i saw you gave that guy a talking , hehe. Don't worry i won't be discouraged... I'll keep trying —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Sambo freeman (talkcontribs) .
Your welcome. Just trying to get the other editor to not bite the newbie. :) --StuffOfInterest 21:37, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

oh and i dont mind about the idefinite ban, cos its not on my ip addy and so i just made a new account --Sambo freeman 21:52, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

Funny thing is, it was not an indefinite ban. I checked the block log and it was only for 31 hours. The person who left the ban message was in error. It looks like he made that error several times, so I've left a message over on the administrator's notice board asking for an admin to take a look and clean up the mess. If you prefer the old login, there is nothing to prevent you from using it. If you don't want to use it, then you may want to tag the user page with {{db-author}} to ask an admin to clear out the whole page. --StuffOfInterest 21:57, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

ive asked for it to be "speedily deleted"... incidently does everything on wikipedia have to be notable nationwide or regionwide because i added a stub for a band in wiltshire (a county in Britain) who are well known in the region... and before i could say anything abot the band it was speedily deleted oh and just wondering did you start off the user boxes?--Sambo freeman 22:08, 27 July 2006 (UTC)
Different types of articles have differerent types of notability requirements. Let's see, take a look at WP:BAND for music groups. Unfortunately, some are a bit too quick on the speedys. Bands get hit hard because so many high school/garage bands show up. As for userboxes, I definitely didn't start that one. It's been going for a long time. You can learn quite a bit about that at WP:GUS. --StuffOfInterest 22:34, 27 July 2006 (UTC)
How do i put references on a page, as someone has said that one of my pages (Pedophile Party) lacks any sourcesor references--Sambo freeman, oh and can i just search for pics and put them on an article or do i have to own the copywrite.. and how do i put them on an article 09:14, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
Short answer, look at another page which has a "References" section for an exampleof the code. Long answer, towards the bottom of the article, usually after "See also" but before "External links", create a section called "References" and in it put the text "<references/>". This will be the location for references to enumerate at. Now, any place you need to put a reference, place something like this: "<ref>{{cite web | title=the page title text | url=the page url | author=who created the page}}</ref>". This will create the formatted reference text which will appear in the section down below. Two common templates for references are "{{Template:cite web}}" and {{Template:cite news}}". Take a look at those templates (by follow the links) to see some additional options you can pass to them. Hope this helps. --StuffOfInterest 10:33, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

Thanks! And good luck with your future editing. Oh, and good job merging in on my user page. Perfect location! --StuffOfInterest 14:46, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

Minam, Oregon

Thanks for fixing that. And sorry my edits perpetuated the mess. Katr67 18:34, 2 August 2006 (UTC)

No problem. I grew up in Enterprise so it just jumped out at me. Pretty easy fix to do the page moves. Someone still need to go through the redirects and try and clean up any other articles. --StuffOfInterest 18:40, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
I've hardly spent any time in eastern Oregon, so it didn't jump out at me! I'm in the middle of about 20 different things, but I'll see if I can fix the redirects at some point. Katr67 18:55, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
P.S. It might be a little far from your area, but do you know anything about Mayville? I've got it in both Wheeler and Gilliam counties. I think Wheeler used to be part of Gilliam, hence the confusion? Or are there two places called Mayville? Katr67 18:57, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
Sorry, afraid I've never heard of Mayville. My experience is only with Wallowa and Union counties plus a little travel here and there to other parts. Plus, it's been 18 years since I left the area. As for the redirects, I think I got them all. Good thing about such an obscure location is that there are not a lot of things pointing to it. --StuffOfInterest 19:02, 2 August 2006 (UTC)

Possible Userbox Solution

This is a form letter, please don't reply directly. Do, however, feel free to discuss this solution I've come up with.

I've made an unofficial place for all User Boxes (hopefully) safe from overzealous Admins. Feel free to add any you like, edit any there, or just list your already made userboxes there. Also feel free to edit the main page (the user page) in any way that you think might help. Please note, however, that this is a user page and not an official Wikipedia page, so almost any User Box will be tolerated as long as it's within reason. UserBox 03:23, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

PS. I really liked your 'Userbox War' info. I think that sums up what I've been able to see since I started this last week.

Thanks for the compliment on the 'Userbox War'. Unfortunately, I doubt your special account is going to work. It has been tried before and always shot down. The user space is littered with previous tries such as User:Userbox and User:Boxes. The only way for the German solution to work will probably be if the collection stays distributed. --StuffOfInterest 18:30, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

Thanks!

Thank you for the welcome and useful links! Looking forward to contributing more to Wikipedia - I think I've been leeching off it for too long! Turkishbob 09:53, 7 August 2006 (UTC)

Who Wants to be a Superhero?

Hello,

I believe you falsely accused me of vandalizing the Who Wants to be a Superhero? page. I was correcting a typo. As you can see in the section edited, you must click Ron NAJOR's name, not MAJOR Victory's. Several versions ago, this was correct, but then falsely changed. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 70.146.46.207 (talkcontribs) .

You should have left the criticism up before, it was appropriate and I've restored it to my own talk page. My full response is on your talk page. Sorry about that. --StuffOfInterest 11:18, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

Thanks!

Thanks for the heads up on Big Daddy. It's my fault. I was keeping on it and blocking the static IP every 3 months but I lost track. Did 6 months now. --Woohookitty(meow) 00:06, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

You're welcome. Too bad some people can't take a hint. At least he isn't coming back with a new IP every five minutes. --StuffOfInterest 18:22, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

Going Tribal etc

Sorry I got confused with the title. The title in Uk is Tribe. i wanted to move it to Tribe (TV series), but I put the worng title. Do you know how to fix it? If you can that would be great. I'm so stupid.--NeilEvans 22:07, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

Ok thanks, I've reverted the move back to Going Tribal, and put a request on so that the Mods can do their magic. Hopefully they will sort it out. And I won't make the same mistake again...hopefully.--NeilEvans 22:22, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
You're welcome. Just please make sure you followed all the steps in WP:RM. I'll post a comment in the discussion soon. --StuffOfInterest 22:24, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

Your comments to LordStryfe

I've seen that you mentioned to LordStryfe that he may be blocked for his spaming of pages. I would like to ask you to avoid asking for a block at this time. I've been talking to him on my talk page, and I don't anticipate that there will be any further problems. thanks --T-rex 01:48, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

T-rex, no problem. I'm in no hurry. Still, LordStryfe will have to learn about the conventions and practices in a hurry or he will have a very troubled time here. Plain and simple, if he maintains that site then he shouldn't be putting links to it here. To tell the truth, several of the articles he posted to have far too many links on them already and probably need a good cleaning up. Popular music just isn't enough of an interest area of mine to invest the time in those particular articles. He only caught my attention because he tried to post to the list of web directories. Good luck with him. --StuffOfInterest 10:59, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

Drini and the CVU deletion

You, like so many other Wikipedians, seem to have felt that Drini's actions in the CVU deletion proccess were wholly inappropriate. As a result, I'm forming an ad-hoc group of sorts composed of people interested in removing Drini. If you'd like to be involved, just drop me a note. ShortJason 20:06, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

Done :)

vandalism from 216.79.136.130

Thank you for your quick catch and correction of the vandalism from this IP (Bozo the Clown, Geraldo, and Hillary Clinton). I am an English teacher and the technology mentor for North Lincoln High School in Lincoln County North Carolina. This vandalism appears to have been caused by a student and I am very close to finding the culprit. I will continue to monitor the situation and to educate our students about the value of Wikipedia and the responsibility that comes with it.

Thanks again. CGoodson

OSCAR Page

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OSCAR

I added sections on satellite modes and doppler shift to the OSCAR article. I would like to have a second opinion on the clarity of the doppler shift section. While it seems very clear to me (as it should, I wrote it) it may not be so clear to others. It is a very complex subject that is hard to explain clearly without the support of images. Any feedback would be appreciated.
Thank you.

George Allen

Nothing has to be "looked through." I moved George Allen to George Allen (disambiguation), and was unable to simply moved George Felix Allen to George Allen since it already existed. Also there is no discussion on the matter. Wikipedia's Naming conventions| on this are crystal clear: Except where other accepted Wikipedia naming conventions give a different indication, use the most common name of a person or thing that does not conflict with the names of other people or things

George Allen has never used his middle name, nor does anyone else aside from websites associate with Jim Webb or supporting him. This is a not too sly attempt to tie Allen to his supposedly Jewish grandfather. I have no idea why Mr Webb's supporters (note, I didn't say Webb or his campaign) think it is a bad thing that ALlen had a Jewish grandfather, but they do. George Allen's common name is George Allen. — Linnwood 21:52, 19 September 2006 (UTC)

Then you should have asked for admin assitance as copy/paste moves are not acceptable. An admin could have cleared the destination and moved the old content (with history) into place. And please don't start wikilawyering with me. There is discussion on the matter. --StuffOfInterest 21:56, 19 September 2006 (UTC)

hd dvd

Hi, why do you consider a relevant link to a blog of an HD DVD developer to be spam? Have you looked at the link at all? (longer then 5 seconds)

referring to the removal of http://techgen.spaces.live.com

greets. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 87.213.0.34 (talkcontribs) .

A link added with no explanation or assertion of why it is relevant to the article is likely to be labeled SPAM. Alos, blog links are highly suspect as they are more likely to be personal musings rather than citable content useful in building the article. Please remember that Wikipedia is not a link farm and external links should be relevant towards building the article. If you think your link fits that description then try disussing it on the article talk page first. Thanks. --StuffOfInterest 12:20, 20 September 2006 (UTC)
Ok thanks for the fast reply, I was just suprised someone marked it as spam because it isn't and it's relevant to the article. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 87.213.0.34 (talkcontribs) .

George Allen

What does George Allen's preferance have to do with using or not using his middle name? Its his name, an encyclopedia should include it. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 71.126.152.44 (talkcontribs) .

The article has his middle name. The article name does not. This is in line with Wikipedia naming standards where commonly used names take precedence. See the article talk page for the reasoning. --StuffOfInterest 23:04, 21 September 2006 (UTC)

Ricky Gibson

Please do not delete any info. that you have on this great wrestler. I am a huge wrestling fan and it is hard to find good and useful info. on the wrestlers, past and present. I had the honor to meet his brother one time. Who is a very nice man, along w/ Ricky Morton. I have met several of the wrestlers, past and present. But, there is just not enough info on the net about them. W/o things getting deleted. So, please stop deleting these files. Thank you very much, Lady Wrestler aka Norma Tate —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 65.188.181.96 (talkcontribs) .

I won't (actually can't) delete it. All I did was put the article up on WP:AfD. It is up to the community to decide what to do about Ricky Gibson's article. --StuffOfInterest 10:29, 22 September 2006 (UTC)

read april nature journal

just read it. you will find it in there. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Juan kerr (talkcontribs) .

That's nice, but it is not the way content should be added to Wikipedia. If you want to add something in, try putting in a reference to backup the material. Thanks. --StuffOfInterest 22:59, 22 September 2006 (UTC)

Reconsider?

Wink, wink, nudge, nudge, say no more. Should think about it. ;-) Other than all the userboxes, good stuff. --198.185.18.207 14:14, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

Thanks. I'll probably throw my hat in the ring in a few weeks. Busy time for me right now, and I'll want to have my full concentration available to monitor the RfA when it is ongoing. Again, thanks for the vote of confidence. --StuffOfInterest 14:51, 26 September 2006 (UTC)
I know it's not really much, since I don't have an account, but just thought I'd let you know that I had seen you around, and with a brief perusal of your contribs, you seem to do pretty good work. Peace be upon you. --198.185.18.207 14:58, 26 September 2006 (UTC)
Thanks again. Do consider creating an account at some time. It really does help things and in the long run it does more to protect your identity (or anonymity) than reduce it. --StuffOfInterest 15:00, 26 September 2006 (UTC)
Oh, don't worry, I know. I know a lot about Wikipedia. But as of right now, my anonymity need not be protected. ;-) I like working as an IP. Less stuff to worry about, like people asking me to reconsider adminship. :-) I'll think about it. Thanks. --198.185.18.207 15:07, 26 September 2006 (UTC)
Argh, after a week I finally remembered the reference alluded to above. It's from the "Nudge Nudge" sketch in Monty Python's And Now For Something Completely Different! Cute. --StuffOfInterest 18:04, 2 October 2006 (UTC)

Allen reversion

Could you please explain your reversion of my recent edit to the Allen page (regarding his remarks on MTP.) Thanks, Sdedeo (tips) 19:43, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

The edits have gone back and forth for a long time. You can read all of the reasoning on Talk:George Allen (U.S. politician). The concensus seems to be that if he doesn't identify himself as Jewish, and wasn't raised Jewish, then he isn't Jewish. --StuffOfInterest 20:04, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

No, it appears that you deleted something unrelated to the whole Jewish thing; an edit I made regarding the Meet the Press interview. I guess it was just a mistake. Sdedeo (tips) 20:06, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

I may have picked up something else as I just reverted back to the previous editor's last work. I see the note you put back in regarding Meet The Press and it looks fine to me. Sorry if I clobbered that piece earlier. --StuffOfInterest 20:08, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

No worries. Seems like the current state of the page controversy makes things confused. Sdedeo (tips) 22:58, 26 September 2006 (UTC)
