Managing a conflict of interest

edit

Hello, Stephen Way. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page The Latymer School, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Tacyarg (talk) 22:15, 13 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi, you have continued to edit the article. Do you have a conflict of interest as defined above? Tacyarg (talk) 10:24, 12 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hi. Apologies, did not notice the notification. I am an alumni and a volunteer Governor (and Chair of Governors). I do not believe the cited updates I have made constitute a conflict of interest as they are factual or update existing information. I am not an employee. Stephen Way (talk) 09:57, 13 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
Stephen, Just a quick point. Over at the COI noticeboard you said that you had an interest in making sure that the content in the article was accurate. That being the case, can I draw your attention to WP:ALUMNI which states that in alumni lists ‘Individual alumni need a citation to [...] verify that they did indeed attend the school’. A spot check of a good number of the former pupils mentioned at The Latymer School article suggests that the great majority of the citations only confirm the post-school occupations of the individuals concerned and do not mention any link to Latymer. Also, many of the links are dead and some are to non WP:RS sources such as blogs and imdb.
Would you be interested in resolving these issues or shall I delete the alumni where no link to the school is currently demonstrated? Axad12 (talk) 12:46, 13 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
Just a note to say that I've now gone through the whole list. I can provide a list of the entries where there are issues if this would be of assistance. (To correct my earlier comment there are 18 where there seem to be issues, so about half, rather than the great majority. I must have just been unlucky in my original sample...). The list referred to in my earlier note has now been added to the talk page for the school. Axad12 (talk) 17:10, 13 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for adding the list. Most have been added by others - I will try to get the information for citations and use the proper procedure to update. This may take time... Stephen Way (talk) 08:23, 14 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
