Palm Island Collaboration edit

Thank you for your great contributions to the Palm Island article over the past couple of weeks while it was the Collaboration, I think it’s amazing how much it has been improved to this point. It was probably at Stub level when we got into it, now I think it would be competitive for Good or A Class article and perhaps over the next few months it will get up to the standard of Feature.

There’s only one day left of it being the Collaboration so if we have any last ideas as to how it can be improved lets be bold and get into it now. But most of all I just wanted to thank you for all your work and help before it was finished. Thanks, Alec -(answering machine) 08:39, 3 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks Steve! :) Thank you again for the help, do you think it is now good enough to apply for GA status? Alec -(answering machine) 11:38, 4 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for the support, I have now nominated it, also I think I have done a bit to fix the problem with there being so many pics down the bottom of the article. Alec -(answering machine) 13:03, 4 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Good article: very true, bad timing though, I've got a huge week at work coming up, but should be OK :) I'm pretty happy with that list, the citations will obviously be a bit challenging but should be right. Alec -(answering machine) 06:57, 25 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi Slf67, what did he mean by 'hard return'? Thanks, Alec -(answering machine) 07:50, 26 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi Steve, My internet connection has been extremely poor this week which has been preventing me using the media monitor or doing any other substantial online research on Palm, this situation will probably continue over the weekend. Just giving you the heads up that I will probably be unable to do as much as I want to towards the Good article process. Thanks, Alec -(answering machine) 07:19, 2 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thank you!!!! That's fantastic news, I have a couple of issues with the most recent group of edits however I'll bring them up when I have a more reliable connection. Thanks, 11:35, 3 March 2007 (UTC)

You're a bit too happy with your speedy deletes edit

You know, my church is larger than your city recital hall so give me a break on your speedy delete. Wabwab 04:04, 5 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hehe. If he wants Constables to enforce a particular editing view, he should go join Citizendium. They're working on almost 800 articles, you know! Dev920 (Have a nice day!) 11:02, 4 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

And you're a vandal edit

You're completely wrong and you're a malicious vandal. The article about Christian Assembly Church was far more noteworthy than several of your meaningless little blurbs about insignificant places and persons. The Tommy Walker (musician) page contained exactly zero copyright violations. A list of the songs published by a person with information about where the licensing is held is far from a copyright violation, it's just about the opposite. Your opinions are completely arbitrary and you are a disservice to the Wikipedia community. Reading comments posted about you suggests that you're also deceptive in the way you do your deletions because you don't give the authors notice. Please gracefully leave Wikipedia and find some other way to exert your control where it's not appreciated.

Retaliation? No, retaliation would be deleting your meaningless drivel from Wikipedia. I tagged one of your articles as lacking any significance because it lacks significance. Wabwab 04:02, 5 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Responded here, explaining why it was a copyright violation --Steve (Slf67) talk 04:20, 5 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Need a replacement for Solomon edit

Hi! You deleted the example given for polygamy in the Marriage article. (Solomon.) Please, since you apparently object to that one, find another well-known (and well-liked) polygamist to put in that place. Otherwise, you weaken rather than strengthen the article. If you need help understanding why an example like Solomon worked so well in that spot, don't hesitate to ask! Sdsds 04:04, 5 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Responded here --Steve (Slf67) talk 04:17, 5 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Yes, it did benefit from having that example, in two ways. The general reader benefits from any specific example of someone who lead that particular lifestyle and was still widely respected by the community. And too, any reader who is approaching the marriage article from a Traditional marriage movement perspective benefits from the reminder that marriage-as-purely-monogamous has not been the "tradition" since the beginning! Remember, some readers are also editors! (And finally, one particular reader, just recently denied the ability to edit Wikipedia articles, needed that reminder. But you know he isn't alone out there, right?)

I want to reiterate my stance that you did harm to Wikipedia by removing that source and failing to replace it with something better. Sdsds 04:23, 5 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Responded in the same place --Steve (Slf67) talk 04:37, 5 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Not suck edit

Hey Steve, the other day you removed the "not suck banner" from my user page with the edit summary "Took the liberty of removing IfD'd notsuck banner".[1] I was just wondering, what's the story with that? Has it been IFD'd? I had a poke around but I couldn't find any further info on it. Thanks, Sarah 06:41, 7 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

No problems Steve and definitely no need to apologise. I didn't mind you removing it, I just wondered what the story with the IFD was. Thanks for removing it when it was a redlink, anyway. I see it is now on DRV so it might still go. Thanks Steve, Sarah 10:38, 7 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

List of Swiss artists edit

A tag has been placed on List of Swiss artists, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article is a repost of either already posted material, or of material that was previously deleted in a deletion debate, such as articles for deletion.

I'm sure you know most of that, but I thought it polite to notify you about the tag. The AfD is at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of Swiss artists. Regards, Mr Stephen 11:44, 8 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
LOL! No harm done, anyway. Regards, Mr Stephen 11:51, 8 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fleur Lombard edit

I'm sorry if I'm doing something wrong but I'm trying to correct some minor factual inaccuracies in the Fleur Lombard entry, and they keep getting edited back to the original incorrect version. Part of the problem seems to be I'm not quoting references. I'm Fleur's father - I know how she died and can provide a copy of the original investigation report if anyone doubts it. Furthermore I can confirm she's not "buried" at St Enodoc. Her body was cremated and her ashes are interred at St Enodoc which the family perceive to be different. I think I'm right in sayinmg that John Betjeman was, and will remain, the last person to be buried at St Enodoc because the graveyard is now closed to burials (as opposed to ashes). We very much appreciate the fact that someone has taken the trouble to create a Wikipaedia entry for her but can we have the facts please. I have stated my position in an e-mail to Slf67. Thank you again RFL44 16:19, 8 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Re: Sydney Tower edit

Thanks for the pointer about the Sydney Tower not being a skyscraper. All major towers/buildings use that infobox on Wikipedia, even the CN Tower which it not a habitable either. I visited the Sydney Tower in July and it was a really neat experience, actually I spent almost a whole month touring Australia (Ayers Rock was the most amazing, don't worry I didn't climb it). I'm glad to help out and I appreciate the good feedback! :) Bobo is soft 01:36, 10 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

re: Top Gear page moves edit

First off, sorry for the extremely slow reply, I completely overlooked your message. I actually like the page moves. I think they are in line with WP guidelines/policies, but I am not exactly up to date on them. The article titles have unique enough names, so disambiguating them isn't really necessary and having shorter titles always makes things easier, at least in my opinion. See ya around. --PS2pcGAMER (talk) 02:19, 16 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

IT Service Management edit

Thanks for cleaning that up :-) it was turning into spam central. Good call on removing the list from there also, incidently. I hope you don't mind, but I've created an article List of IT Service Management providers as I think the list is valuable, just not very valuable (due to NPOV concerns) in the main article. - Ta bu shi da yu 02:13, 18 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Your AIV report edit

Thank you for making a report in respect of MDSanker (talk · contribs · block log) on Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism. Removing and reporting vandalism is vital to the functioning of Wikipedia and all users are encouraged to revert, warn, and report vandalism. However, administrators are generally only able to block users if they have received a final warning (one that mentions that the user may be blocked) and they have recently vandalized after that warning was given. The reported user has not yet been blocked because it appears this has not occurred yet. If this user continues to vandalize even after their final warning, please report them again to the AIV noticeboard. Thanks. Sandstein 07:17, 18 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

1FAPQ edit

Mc and Mac edit

For sorting purposes surnames like Mc, O', and Fitz should be categorized as, for instance, Macmanus (not McManus), Oneill (not O'Neill) and Fitzwilliam (not FitzWilliam); I don't think it is anti-Celtic discrimination, however.

I discovered this when I was checking out Martin McGuinness' edit page; you can see the note for yourself near the bottom where the categories are. As for your suggestion I am not that adept, so I tend to do stuff manually.

I hope you didn't rv them all.

Yours, Veronica Mars fanatic 02:06, 22 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Sorry, like I explained, I am not that adept and do most stuff manually. I thought your default categorizing (or whatever it is called) was supposed to be temporary until someone did it the long way (like I did). Sorry if this is not so. I am going to leave the Mc/Mac for now until a Wikiwide policy is created and more capable hands (like almost anyone else's) can do a massive fixit job. Sorry again. Thanks for your help and support. List of Australian Test batsmen who have scored over 5000 Test runs edit

Hi. I have disputed your {{prod}} tag on List of Australian Test batsmen who have scored over 5000 Test runs. I didn't have time over breakfast to format data properly, but I have put a useful (I think) set of data on the talk page. You are welcome to take it to AFD if you disagree that the list would be useful with the data formatted into the page.

My opinion is that the lists with bounded and tractable membership, where membership makes a person "notable enough" for a wikipedia article are OK. A list with more information than just a name is preferred.

Articles like "List of Australians", List of Australians in sport, List of Australians in music, List of Australian cartoonists do not meet my criteria. Do you think we should have a big discussion at either talk:lists of Australians, wikipedia talk:WikiProject Australia or WP:AWNB to define and identify lists of people we want to keep or delete, and how to improve the ones we want to keep? --Scott Davis Talk 22:36, 22 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Don't jump the gun on speedy deletes and get a grasp of what is non-notable and under publics domain edit

You need to take more time and do some more research when deletating articles as "non-notable" any professional theatre comapny that has been around for over 10 years and was invited to perform when the Globe was reopened is a notable company on top of the fact that there are only a small hand full of true original practice playhouses in the world performing 1600's era style Shakespare. Also the fact that text is on a copyrighted page does not mean the text is what is copyrighted for example the Atlanta Shakespare Company's brife history is in public doamin as it is in public record on request for grants form the US Gov't and under Federal Law anythign in the national archive (inculding public records) is not subject to copyright. So lession is if you are going to tell someone their information is copyrighted contact them first before you delete and second do some research. Hanthorn98 17:50, 27 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

The original article was deleted as a copyright violation as it was a cut-and-paste from a website clearly marked with (c) The Atlantic Shakespeare Company! --Steve (Slf67) talk 22:28, 27 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Trying to find a discriminating mind edit

Just saw your moniker at the delet the list of oz cartoonists and realise - the issue - that the list replicates the category - is that you might be one that might or might not be able to see above the dross and floss of the debate i keep pottering into (somwehwat incompetently I must admit) in the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Templates_for_deletion/Log/2007_February_27#Template:Campaignbox_templates - issue - a flak jacket and greek passport might be needed, along with dark glasses - but i have already muddied my patch there somewhat stupidly - but it seems its hard to know who has the bazooka and who has the cardboard cutout... but then again its not everyones cup of tea! Wouldnt be slghtest offended if you told me to get lost ! Lists of Australians edit

Thanks for kicking the ball along a bit further. I seem to have inadvertently made an enemy out of Rebecca :-( I have a question though for outside the debate - what is your reasoning for deleting the red links from articles like List of Australian country musicians? I was about to add some of the obvious missing people, and realised one of them was missing as you had recently deleted it. No biggie if we delete the list in the next batch anyway, but curious why you think the red links are bad. I think the red links are an important part of any useful list (until they all have articles created). Red links don't appear in categories. --Scott Davis Talk 09:30, 28 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

If you have a plan, I'll leave you to it. A source of notable red links for that particular list is the nominees for Best Country Album in each year's ARIA Music Awards page. --Scott Davis Talk 12:00, 28 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
