Replied on your talk page. If you have questions about Wikipedia or comments other than things like "well fuck you" we can discuss. -SpuriousQ (talk) 01:52, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

Barely, but you have no knowledge of the topic, what gives you the right to intrude on someone elses privacy in the way you just did? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 7pac (talkcontribs).

I have no idea how tagging an article for deletion and informing you why can be construed as a violation of privacy. It doesn't matter whether I don't know the person, the article is clearly mocking him and does not assert his notability. -SpuriousQ (talk) 01:54, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

Well, in that case you are obviously a Chuck. How did you come across the article in the first place? Are you some sort of person with no life who spends their time surfing random Wikipedia articles trying to keep them up to standard? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 7pac (talkcontribs) 01:57, 16 March 2007 (UTC).

Notability

Prior to your citing it and prior to your graciously giving me a link to the article which I had already read, I was aware of the "Notability" article.

Where I am completely miffed is this:

Why are obscure companies considered "Notable" while the largest company in an industry not considered "Notible?" I don't understand at all what appears to be a purely subjective standard guised in a package trying to give it objectivity?

The article on Addicted To Rubber Stamps was deleted. I coudl understand a need or desire to write it differently or in other styles. But the article did, after all, meet the published standards of the Wikipedia.

Meanwhile, many other companies of far less notability are int he Wikipedia. Why the discrepancy is a mystery, unless perhaps a bribe is involved.

Forgive my caustic response, but it is appropriate considering your "Attila the hun" brevity.

Perhaps a little more presumption that people are trying to "do good" and perhaps need to be "invited into the club" would serve your purposes more than a brutal handling of them. That is, it IS POSSIBLE that new contributors such as myself actually desire to provide the sort of content that you wish if only we could have a few GENTLE nudges in the correct direction.

Yes, I'm frustrated. But then, you would be if handled the way I have been.

Art Stamps

Some things are not worth the exhaustion of fighting an immovable, obstinate organization (or editor.)

My point was NOT related to the fact that an Art Stamps link is needed to point to Addicted To Rubber Stamps. I can understand how you coudl come to that conclusion given only a cursory reading and a desire to move through materials quantitatively rather than qualitatively.

My point was that there are a million people who engage in the craft of "Art Stamps" and that there should be a link to Rubber Stamps and then intot he "Rubber Stamps as an Art form." Indeed, THAT is where I linked, with Addicted To Rubber Stamps being clearly a secondary, distanced, offset, and separate link.

I don't care especially about the link to Addicted To Rubber Stamps. But there should be an Art Stamps link to Rubber Stamps. They are similar ONLY to those who are oblivious to the art stamp hobby. As I mentioned, Art Stampers use Rubber Stamps and talk about Art Stamps.

It's not worth fighting. There are limits to how much energy one shoudl have to put into something like this. And, I well know that an obstinate, closed minded, or simply over-worked editor has every vested interest in seeing that what very little they produce is of high quality, rather than risking a single error on rare ovvasion for a product which is of higher quality in the macro sense.

Fine. Delete the Art Stamp link. I know the difference. Art Stampers know the difference. Wikipedians don't and that's not my problem.

-David

Art Stamps

Perhaps this part was unclear. Therefore I am re-submitting it again without a word being changed, in the hopes that it is more clear now when read a second time...

There is a need for an "Art Stamps" page. I created this page from scratch. Whrther the external links are permissible or not is a valid discussion, but the "Art Stamps" page should still be allowed to refer readers to Rubber Stamps.

Note that Art Stampers are somewhat disinfranchised from the business-side of rubber stamping, and this should possibly be a consideration. That is, few art stampers think much about or are very interested in "office stamps." This is because office stamps are largely utilitarian while art stamps are a pure art form.

Ultimately, the section under rubber stamps that deals with "Rubber Stamps as an Art Form" may be best rellocated to the Art Stamps page, as the discussion of art stamping is itself a lengthy and illustrious topic. The techniques, process of using stamps, and finished products are only related to office stamps int he most remote of ways.

The link to Addicted To Rubber Stamps may not meet your guidelines. I don't know as I am new to editing articles.

But I will assert that they are a very special company--not just another online store. They are utterly in a league by themselves, and they lead the industry in many ways. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Kovanen (talkcontribs) 20:26, 18 March 2007 (UTC).

Hi Kovanen. I can see you are upset, and that's understandable. But please try to relax a bit and bring down the accusatory (and dramatic) tone. Everyone here is just a volunteer and you will find their willingness to help you is directly related to how nice you are to them.
Please note that I am an editor just like you, I have no powers to delete articles or even view deleted articles. You state that "the article on Addicted To Rubber Stamps was deleted". I can't find this in the deletion log. So I think you are instead referring to the Art stamps article. As I told you before, I was not the person who proposed Art stamps for deletion. And of course, I was not the person who deleted it. That was User:Seraphimblade, who gave the reason as: "G11, blatant ad". If you want to discuss this action, talk to that user.
If there was, in fact, an Addicted to Rubber Stamps article (I possibly can't find it because of different capitalization), I never saw it and certainly had nothing to do with its deletion. Again, see WP:N and also WP:CORP for a better understanding of which articles get deleted and which ones stay. If the company is as notable as you say it is, I'm sure you could write an article that conforms to those guidelines. The fact that an article was deleted does not mean the company itself is non-notable, it just means the article failed to demonstrate its notability. -SpuriousQ (talk) 23:55, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

Bob Justin

Hi. I was wondering if we could chat about an article you visited and talked to me about a while ago by the above Title. Its a bio on an artist. You visited a while back and had a question about copyright that we resolved (there wasnt a problem). At the time you noted that the article and another you were talking about were clearly in line with WP BIO requirements. Earlier Merope had also been satisfied with notability issues, per my talk page. Now, months later, Jeepday comes along and deletes the article saying its an ad and not a notable person! I have written him and he is ignoring the response and will not undelete. Is there anyway to get this resolved and for GOOD? I am rather sick and tired and frustrated in having my posts be deleted time and time again and having to constantly defend them against every new comer! Heck even a Doctoral Dissertation only has to be defended until its approved! I put an hours or more work into each of these articles, and have had to defend most of them once or twice or more. Is there no way to put a final seal of approval on something that keeps the jackals at bay? How the heck do people get anything done? Whats the motivation to post an article when it means hours of follow up? I came into this project an eager beaver and have been beaten down to wanting to bail on it totally. Can you get that deletion undone and give me a clue as to how to avoid such hassles in the future? Clearly sticking to the guidelines is not enough, this article was supported by newspapers, books and museums! Whats a guy to do? I would really like to go on participating in what SHOULD be an cultural shifting project that lasts generations, but see no point in it if its just drawing in sand! Thanks - Yelloone

Hi Yelloone, sorry to see you're getting frustrated. I'm not a sysop and have no ability to undelete articles, and to be honest I don't remember what the article looked like. User:Jeepday did not actually delete Bob Justin; he just tagged it for speedy deletion and the admin User:Steel359 deleted it, with the reason: CSD G11 advertisement (you can see this in the deletion log). Try discussing this matter with Steel; he has the ability to view the deleted content and explain to you why he decided to delete it.
Note that Merope and I both seemed convinced that the subject of the article was notable per WP:BIO (given the links you provided), but I'm not certain the article itself clearly established notability, which may be why you are experiencing difficulties. -SpuriousQ (talk) 23:01, 19 March 2007 (UTC)
Thanks - Y1

Addicted To Rubber Stamps

Yes, there was such an article and now it is gone. You have the name correct.

As for the "drama" all I can say is that it is usually the police officer, the librarian, or other forms of disciplinarians who ask for things to be calmed down. It is to their advantage, of course to assert their authority as a priority over listening for what is actually being said.

Now, as an editor I would think you would look for meaning and deal with the issues at hand, knowing conifently that in the end the truth prevails and that teh facts will sort themselves out once they are known.

So I would ask that you read my writings to you, look for the content, and then provide an informed response. That will both be calming and constructive...much more than ignoring the issues on the table, not helping, and merely asserting yourself. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 205.166.50.254 (talkcontribs)

Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe you have the following grievances:
You are now asking for my help, so here is my advice. First, you must understand that if an article is deleted, it does not mean that there is no hope that a better article can be written and retained. You have given me some confidence that "Art stamps" and "Addicted to Rubber Stamps" are both notable topics worthy of an article. However, the articles you created about them were deemed to meet Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion by the admins above. Thus, I believe you should familiarize yourself with those criteria, and particularly G11, as that was the one invoked in the deletion of your articles.
Chances are, the deletions were appropriate. If you find you disagree, you can contact the administrators above to request a more detailed explanation of their decisions. In my opinion, though, the best route for you to take would be to create, for each of these topics, a solid, well-sourced article that clearly asserts the notability of the topic. You stated before you are familiar with Wikipedia's notability guidelines, so I trust you can do so. Be sure to draw from reliable sources and adhere to a neutral point of view.
From your comments, I feel you may have an inaccurate perception of my "position" here. I really—as I said before—am a regular editor just like you with no additional authority. I cannot undo the deletions, and I have no interest in rubber stamps, art stamps, or Addicted to Rubber Stamps; all I did was remove a blatantly promotional external link on Rubber stamps and write to you explaining my reasons. If you would like to contribute to Wikipedia about these topics, I've given you my advice and recommendations. You are free to take it or not. -SpuriousQ (talk) 06:38, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

Well, basically find independent and reliable sources that talk about the subjects of the articles, and add them to the articles. You want to show this person and this company have garnered a significant amount of attention. If you're experiencing difficulty finding such sources, it is probably because these things are just not notable yet by Wikipedia's standards. -SpuriousQ (talk) 11:53, 4 April 2007 (UTC)

I warned you that it was tagged for speedy deletion for being a nonsense article. Wikipedia has policies on which topics are notable enough to warrant articles, see WP:N. In light of your most recent edit to that article, please also see WP:NPA. Thanks. -SpuriousQ (talk) 09:10, 11 April 2007 (UTC)

No one really makes the rules around here, see WP:POL. Wikipedia policies reflect the current consensus of the community though. I am not a moderator or administrator. -SpuriousQ (talk) 09:23, 11 April 2007 (UTC)

So howcome you get to tell people what to do?

I try to let people know when they've violated policy, or in your case, created an article that will likely be deleted unless vastly improved. The Institute

Hi, I am trying to fix our page so that it is not seen as an advertisement; I am simply trying to add information about it and its recent changes. Can I have some advice on correcting the editing? I am not trying to violate any policy!

You should see WP:COI, WP:NPOV, and WP:NOT. The article is seriously a mess and in my opinion needs to be completely rewritten to conform to policy. For starters, the prose should be from the third-person and not use "we" and "our". Language like "The schools employ some of the best and most experienced music teachers delivering a portfolio of courses in popular music practice, performance and theory, covering styles including rock, pop, blues, jazz & country. The Institute offers a unique experience, in world class facilities, to students from all over the world." is a blatant violation of WP:NPOV. The article needs to be rewritten to adhere to a neutral point of view and draw all information from independent and reliable sources. -SpuriousQ (talk) 10:33, 11 April 2007 (UTC)

Ok, I think I have updated the page...I'm new at this, but I think it looks much better now!

The article is indeed much improved. However, the next step would be to cite independent and reliable sources to support the claims in the article. Every article in Wikipedia should satisfy the notability criteria. In case you haven't noticed, I have nominated the article for deletion, you are welcome to contribute to the discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Institute of Contemporary Music Performance. -SpuriousQ (talk) 11:05, 11 April 2007 (UTC)

I have noted the nomination, and I am working on trying to redeem our article. Could you give me a little more advice on the article? I have added a few links to other sources (working on the notability part), could you give me some advice/comments on the current changes? I am new at editing on Wikipedia and look forward to learning more and perhaps contributing to other articles in the future.Theicmp 12:37, 11 April 2007 (UTC)

Also possibly worth mentioning is the recent name change; a google search of both 'The Institute of Contemporary Music Performance' as well as for 'The Guitar Institute' will both link back to ICMP :)

Thank you for your cooperation here. My advice is to find published sources independent of the school itself (including newspaper/magazine articles) that talk about the school in a non-trivial way. Cite these sources to verify the content in the article. Again, WP:N is a good guideline to read for this. If you find you're experiencing difficulty trying to find such sources, it is probably because the school is just not notable by Wikipedia's standards. -SpuriousQ (talk) 13:19, 11 April 2007 (UTC)

Link

Hello SpuriousQ.

I just recieved a message from you about my addition of a link to a page, the WWW page.

I am terribly sorry. I am relativly new to Wiki and the internet in general, and was unaware of the quality Wikipedia manages to maintain. I was simply posting this link from a game I had just joined, and I now see that this is far from the proper medium to do this in. I would like to apologize again.

Also, after editing the WWW page, I added my link to one more page. Though I cannot recall which page this was now, I would like to mention that I meant no malice by this, and that I will be only utilizing wiki in its intended fashion from now on.

Thanks again, and keep up the great work.

I'm surprised you were able to add that link in the first place, since it's on the m:Spam blacklist. In any case, there's no real need to apologize; I hope you decide to stick around here and become a constructive editor. I am just trying to start up a page defining what I do.

Many of my friends in the community have Wikipedia pages but anything I try to post is being rejected.

I am very web savvy so I feel stupid that I can't get it.

I have spent hours reading the rules and guidelines.

Do I just need to ask someone in a forum maybe?

Please help me out.

First of all, this is not my site, and I don't have an official role here. I assume by "rejected" you mean pages you have created have been deleted. It's a bit hard for me to explain to you exactly what the problems were because I can't access your deleted edits. You might try reading Wikipedia:Why was my page deleted? for more information. Given your other edits and your comments here, I think you might have the mistaken perception that Wikipedia is a place for self-promotion. It decidedly is not a vehicle for advertising. You might try editing articles about topics other than Bomit or others that you seem to have a vested interest in to get a feel for the guidelines and procedures of Wikipedia. Let me know if you have more questions, or you can also try posting to the Wikipedia:Help desk or place your question on your talk page followed by a {{helpme}}. -SpuriousQ (talk) 04:21, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

You can't just link to publications and call that "citing sources", the point of citing a source is to give the reader enough information to find the article or other work that covered the topic in detail. This would include the publication, date of publication, page number, author name, URL, etc. For more information on properly citing, see WP:CITE. The sources I see in the article are not sufficiently cited, and it's still difficult to tell how notable the school is. -SpuriousQ (talk) 01:35, 14 April 2007 (UTC)
By the way, I encourage you look over the small discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Institute of Contemporary Music Performance and add your thoughts if you see fit. As you can see, I already linked to your comments, but you might want to add more. This is a discussion on whether the article should be deleted. -SpuriousQ (talk) 01:43, 14 April 2007 (UTC)

Listen Up

listen. If you don't like what I did to the 2 Fast @ Furious page, then change it back yourself! User:Bobininer84

It had been changed, when we last talked, months ago. I'm not sure why you're bringing this up again. -SpuriousQ (talk) 01:37, 14 April 2007 (UTC)

Thanks!

Hi! I'm Nurikane from Manila, Philippines. Where are you coming from? I'd like to thank you for welcoming me here in Wikipedia. It's kinda addicting here so, I decided to edit articles here if necessary. Can you please help how to do my own user profile? Cheers!

Hi Nurikane. I spotted you editing Dan Henderson and noticed you hadn't been welcomed yet :-) By user profile, I believe you mean your user page, which I see you've now created. For some more useful information, try Wikipedia:WikiProject User Page Help. -SpuriousQ (talk) 04:30, 14 April 2007 (UTC)

Same here, thanks for welcoming me to Wikipedia. I am having fun in my area of expertise (astronomy) but am frustrated by the controversy on the page about Landmark Education, which has led to a pretty messy article and no apparent hope of fixing it. Timb66 12:42, 19 April 2007 (UTC)

That does look like quite a contentious situation. You might find Wikipedia:Resolving disputes helpful, in particular Wikipedia:Requests for comment, though I can't say I've ever gone that route myself. If it gets too frustrating you can always take a break and edit articles other than that one, but it's always good to have level-headed people hang in there as long as possible :-) Thanks for all your contributions! -SpuriousQ (talk) 13:32, 19 April 2007 (UTC)

Uploading Pics

Thanks again for the help! I just made my userpage after copying a template from another. What a cheater (laughs!). Anyway, how can I upload pics and then insert on the articles I'm editing and creating. Please check out my very first entry on Wikipedia: InterFM. Don't forget to reply to my page! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Nurikane (talkcontribs) 14:41, 14 April 2007 (UTC).

Replied to your talk page as requested. -SpuriousQ (talk) 23:37, 14 April 2007 (UTC)

your warning to me

i what way have i vandilised a page? I have tried to edit carefully and well. If i have not edited well it is because i am new here and have not mastered the use of your site yet. please be paitent. thank you —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Hyper flyin' (talkcontribs) 12:14, 17 April 2007 (UTC).

If you make an edit like this again, you will be blocked. -SpuriousQ (talk) 12:17, 17 April 2007 (UTC)
This was not me. I share my ip gateway with many users on my network. It must be a crossed line connection. I assure you that I would never do anything against the spirit of wikipedia. Hyper flyin' 08:08, 18 April 2007 (UTC)
I believe that this edit to Tree is important because the article only describes the minimun size of trees used for categorisation and not the maximun. It is a simple misderminea that should be altered to full explane that trees are not just catergerised by their minumim size but also their maximun size.
If you dis agree with me please give reason rather that simply revering it without reason. Thank you. Hyper flyin' 09:43, 18 April 2007 (UTC)
I already "explained" that it is unnecessary, as any reasonable person would immediately see. You are not adding anything meaningful. Please stop. -SpuriousQ (talk) 10:11, 18 April 2007 (UTC)
You have not explained why it is unnecessary - you have only stated that you believe it to be so. Hyper flyin' 08:12, 19 April 2007 (UTC)
That's why I put "explained" in quotes; this doesn't warrant an explanation. Three separate editors have reverted your change. Consensus is clearly against your version. You should carefully read the sentence and reconsider your position. If you still seriously believe the sentence should read your way, feel free to make your argument on the article's talk page. -SpuriousQ (talk) 09:56, 19 April 2007 (UTC)

Many thanks

Hi,

Thanks for the tip!

Alifontbin 14:58, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

No problem. -SpuriousQ (talk) 23:13, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

66.201.172.89 reversion

How were you able to revert it if I did? HalfShadow 01:49, 19 April 2007 (UTC)

There was an intermediate edit from another IP that threw things off. You got the actual revert and mine inadvertently reverted the intermediate one. It's a rare occurrence. -SpuriousQ (talk) 02:05, 19 April 2007 (UTC)

Hi. I think you should get a barn star.Ĉ
