Category:Hydroelectric power stations in Canada edit

Skookum1, I was ready to add my 2 cents to the "discussion" at that place... Sorry it's closed. Why didn't you add the cat to WikiProject Canada? I've just done that. It would have shown at Canada/Article alerts

I sucked it up about a year ago and added (almost) all Canadian music categories and articles to WikiProject Canadian music (and by default to WikiProject Canada). I wanted the WP:CfD, WP:AfD, WP:PROD processes to be known to the Canada music and Canada projects (as opposed to a clique). I had a todo with the Cfd people a few month's back and made sure that the talk page of the affected cats included the banner {{WikiProject Canada}} with the parameter music=yes.

Going forward, I strongly believe that all Canadian categories should have the WikiProject Canada banner with relevant parameters music=yes, Vancouver=yes, etc... I've seen many cat's only assigned to WikiProject Canada and not to the proper WikiProject Canadian music. There are many categories not assigned to any project. They are at the whim of the Cfd. We can do something. What is your opinion? Argolin (talk) 07:42, 22 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Forget it. I was a year off on my post. I feel like a big fool. Argolin (talk) 07:50, 22 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Mid-Summer Music Festival edit

Hey Skookum1 I've just created new music festival categories for all the provinces (except PEI). I've moved everything I could from Category:Music festivals in Canada to the new cats. Going through Category:Festivals in British Columbia I'm wondering about this edit. Why have you assigned this redirect to an article category? Am I missing something? Please advise. Wikimedia Stories Project edit

Hi!

My name is Victor and I work with the Wikimedia Foundation, the non-profit organization that supports Wikipedia. We're chronicling the inspiring stories of the Wikipedia community around the world, including those from readers, editors, and donors. Stories are absolutely essential for any non-profit to persuade new people to support the cause, and we know the vast network of people who use Wikipedia have so much to share.

I find stories that drive our annual fundraising efforts. It's important to convey the incredible diversity of people who've come to rely upon Wikipedia every day.

You seem to have a wide range of interests; mining, bodybuilding, indigenous peoples of North America, Acting - I'd really like the opportunity to interview you to tell your story, with the possibility of using it in our materials, on our community websites, or as part of this year’s fundraiser to encourage others to support Wikipedia. Please let me know if you're inclined to take part in the Wikipedia Stories Project and we'll set up a good time to discuss further.

Thank you,

Victor Grigas

Nisqually language edit

I was just doing a Nisqually tribe stub in the Esperanto Wikipedia and noticed your bit from 2007 vowing to do a stub on Nisqually language. Not sure if you tried and it got squelched, or what; the differences between Nisqually and Puyallup are probably not great enough to justify calling them "languages", sort of like claiming there should be articles for "Trail English language" and "Penticton English language" I'd say, but I could be wrong. Lushootseed has two major branches, north and south, and Nisqually is part of the southern branch. Snohomish (now Tulalip) is borderline. But essentially all Lushootseed from the Skagit valley varieties to the Squaxin Island type was mutually intelligible to the point that calling each village's variety a separate language tends to weaken them. Pre-Hudson's Bay, the people of the Sound did not have a "tribal" let alone "national" view of each village. But anyway, what I wanted to say when I started typing this was that Clallam is not a form (language, dialect, variant, whatever you want to call it) of Lushootseed. And Clallam indeed qualifies to have a separate language article, which it has: Klallam language—and had even before you wrote about it in the Nisqually talk page. --Haruo (talk) 14:33, 8 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Merging electoral area A into Metro Vancouver article edit

As you can see on the Metro Van talk page, I agree with your point (from two years ago) that the article on electoral area A be merged into the Metro Van article .... do we need more opinions on this to proceed? Thx! Wikidsoup [talk] 19:09, 3 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

My belief is that the electoral area articles have no reason to exist at all, as they're not really important or defining as communities or places or even political units........not worth geographic articles in their own right and a complte misinterpretation of how BC is organized and what RDs themselves are (=not counties). If no one else has responded in all this time, yes go ahead and merge 'em....there'll be some heat, maybe but I doubt it; they're piffle as articles and I've workedd against having them at all; in the case of this one, how is a "region" /"place" that combines Indian Arm, parts of Howe Sound and Point Grey relevant at all (especially when University Endowment Lands already exists, also Indian Arm and Howe Sound.16:45, 5 January 2013 (UTC)

"Independent Opposition" was a designation used in the BC Leg before political parties were allowed in 1903. It meant someone who wasn't with the outgoing Government-of-the-Day, who are listed as "Government", but wasn't behind the main opposing group, which coalesced around the Leader of the Loyal Opposition. Maybe there could be a generic colour for such designations, as there are others; review one of the 19th C. election pages, you'll see what I mean.Skookum1 (talk) 06:09, 31 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
I removed the SD template from the Liberal-Conservative ones, as there's a different context to those; if the issue is these aren't used by many articles, then a generic colour should be created at least, due to the template systemSkookum1 (talk) 06:16, 31 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Disambiguation link notification for February 5 edit

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Pemberton, British Columbia, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Anderson Lake (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.
