Hi. What else needs to be done for the use of the image Celinesnewest.jpg to be used? I've done as instructed. Many times. I don't know what else to do. The image is ALLOWED to be used. It's NOT a problem. I know you have rules to follow and I've tried but honestly I don't know how one is supposed to come up with licensing numbers and all sorts of complicated info and documentation. The image is on her website. She and her reps gave permission for it to be used here. How else can I explain and/or prove this to be true? 2012Dance (talk) 18:14, 6 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the response. I still don't know what constitutes proof though. The process here with such things is outrageously complicated and difficult to understand and especially complete. I've looked over all sorts of help pages and nothing is clear as to what exactly I need to send in that email. There was one page that listed a bunch of things to put in the email but none applied to what I was doing. Would it be ok if I just tried to upload it under a different license category and see if that passed? I don't know what to do. All I know is it would be nice to have a photo on there and I've been given one to use but getting to use it seems like more trouble than it's worth. I don't know. 2012Dance (talk) 18:22, 6 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

If the instructions related to this issue at all or made any sense or were at all reasonable, I would. Alas that's not the case. The info it asks for has nothing to do with my situation. What I needed to put into the fields I don't have nor would even the people who own the image! Thanks anyway though I appreciate your response. Last question, if the photo doesn't have licensing numbers and such then wouldn't it be considered free use and therefore usable here? 2012Dance (talk) 18:34, 6 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Ok, on her website all it has at the bottom of the page is "2008© Celines Toribio". That is all. So how does this help me at all. I'm repeatedly told I need to prove that she gave me permission to use the image here. How do I do that? What constitutes "proof"? All I can do is say I have permission and I have and I even sent an email to the submissions email saying all of this and the image was still deleted so, what else can I do? 2012Dance (talk) 18:41, 6 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Forget it. I'll contact photosubmission AT wikimedia.org as it seems that page best reflects this situation. Thanks anyway. 2012Dance (talk) 18:54, 6 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Film template syntax

edit

Hey, just been going over some recent additions, and it's great to see that you're doing a commendable job tagging them fairly comprehensively. I wanted to ask, though, if you wouldn't mind making sure to tagging those missing an infobox as "needs-infobox=yes" instead of "needs infobox=yes"? They both work for the moment, but we're trying to deprecate the non-hyphened form eventually, so any new instances will just create more work in the future. Many thanks! Girolamo Savonarola (talk) 14:54, 7 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

I'm wondering where you think this category belongs. What should be its parent? Or should it be deleted? Stepheng3 (talk) 20:17, 7 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Image advice

edit

Wikipedia guidelines on images state

  • Some copyrighted images may be used on Wikipedia, providing they meet both the legal criteria for fair use, and Wikipedia's own guidelines for non-free content. Copyrighted images that reasonably can be replaced by free/libre images are not suitable for Wikipedia.

1. Cover art: Cover art from various items, for identification only in the context of critical commentary of that item (not for identification without critical commentary).

  • Unacceptable use

8. A magazine cover, to illustrate the article on the person whose photograph is on the cover. However, if the cover itself is the subject of sourced discussion in the article, and if the cover does not have its own article, it may be appropriate

Yet on the Kristin Wells article two users User:J Greb and User:Jc37 both keep reverting my image from a clear large image of Kristin Wells to the cover of DC Comics Presents #2 which has a small image of her next to a huge image of Superman. When I tried to state the guidelines they accused me of "interpretting" the guidelines for my own benefit.

So my question is, would it be better to have an article with a comic book cover as the primary image, or an image of the subject itself? I had thought it was a no-brainer, but these two keep trying to edit war with me, and Jc37 has even protected the article (with the comic book cover as primary image). Any help you may have would be greatly appreciated, as I am confused and infuriated. Thanks Qilinmon 15:10, 16 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

LSS re the images as they currently stand: When the article was locked, Quilimon uploaded the image he wanted directly to Image:SuperwomanKW.jpg, over the image that was resident in the article. The "oldest" one would be the one he's looking for you to compare with the "current". - J Greb (talk) 10:36, 17 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
If you're talking about the new "thumnails" in the uploads section... yeah, I've noticed that they really don't seem to be working. - J Greb (talk) 22:51, 17 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Ted Kaptchuk

edit

Hi, hope your day's going well. I saw on my watchlist that you prodded Ted Kaptchuk earlier. This stub is still in the process of expansion pending other sources from Harvard Med School later this week. User:Bstone and I are working on establishing a related article ODM (oriental medical doctor) in one of my sandboxes, which will help remove some of the red-links as well. I believe Bstone removed the prod notice, but I just wanted to let you know what's going on in case you were left out of the loop. Have a great day! :D - Jameson L. Orphaned non-free media (Image:Vértigo.jpg)

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Vértigo.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:34, 21 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Removal of Robert Bald image

edit

Hi Skier RMH. A couple of weeks ago you deleted a picture I uploaded of Robert Bald, and I wonder if you could put it back! The image was a photograph taken by myself of an engraving owned by myself. The engraving is by Thomas Dick, after a portrait by Sir John Watson Gordon. I have no idea who owns the copyright. The National Portrait Gallery of Scotland also has a copy of the engraving, but the original portrait seems to be lost. The image was called RobertBald.jpg Thanks. --Evenmadderjon (talk) 11:36, 22 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Greetings SkierRMH.

My name is Nathan and recently posted an article about a band from Olympia Washington.

The band I was posting about is called Endless Sunder.

They are a very unique and influential.

My article was deleted within one day of posting because of the following:

"Doesn't indicate importance or significance of a group/company/etc.)"

I was curious as to if you could give me an example of how a band can be signifigant or important"

Endless Sunder has a website, a Myspace page, Youtube Videos, and has played countless concerts.

Endless Sunder is a well known Washington band and should be recognized on Wiki.

Thank you for your time. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Nondescriptcitizens (talkcontribs) 15:45, 24 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi SkierRMH,

I am new at editing, although have been a strong advocate of Wiki for years. I have been reading the article on Karna, and noticed a series of edits by IP 78.109.14.129 all done on 25 Sep. These edits border vandalism and lack a clear source of reference. I have noticed that you have administered "Karna" atleast once and I need your help to revert the article to its previous edit. I believe since I am not an adminstrator - I am unable to do so myself. Can you please help ? Vanillacream (talk) 16:37, 30 September 2008 (UTC) Vanilla CreamReply
