Please discuss content disputes on the article talk page and/or at dispute resolution. Thanks. buidhe 01:25, 11 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

June 2020 edit

  Welcome to Wikipedia. We appreciate your contributions, but in one of your recent edits, it appears that you have added original research, which is against Wikipedia's policies. Original research refers to material—such as facts, allegations, ideas, and personal experiences—for which no reliable, published sources exist; it also encompasses combining published sources in a way to imply something that none of them explicitly say. Please be prepared to cite a reliable source for all of your contributions. You can have a look at the tutorial on citing sources. Thank you. MrOllie (talk) 15:36, 5 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

Welcome edit

Hi SimulAnnT,

Welcome to Wikipedia. I see that you are relatively new here, so please allow me to discuss some unusual features of the local culture.

First, it is very common when someone makes an edit that it is reverted. When that happens, it is not appropriate to try to repeatedly reinstate the edit; that behavior is called "edit warring", and it can lead to your editing privileges being restricted (see WP:3RR). Instead, please engage in discussion on the article talk page. If that turns out to be unfruitful, there are several methods of WP:Dispute resolution available; they all rely on participants behaving within Wikipedia's norms.

Second, Wikipedia has a strict policy against original research. (You can read it here.) In order to attribute a discovery of something to someone, what is needed is a high-quality source that makes the attribution. In the particular case in question, I think it would be interesting and valuable to have a discussion of the history of simulated annealing, including precursor techniques. However, any such content must be written to follow what sources say: if there is no source that says "Pincus discovered simulated annealing", Wikipedia cannot say that, either.

I hope this is helpful to you; please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. --JBL (talk) 20:27, 12 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

August 2020 edit

  You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Simulated annealing; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus, rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Points to note:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made;
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes and work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing.This has been undone by more than one editor, and there is no consensus on the article's talk page. Do not continue to restore your desired version. Your interpretation of the sources has been challenged. If necessary use WP:DR Meters (talk) 19:02, 20 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
