Hamburg infobox

Hi there. I see you are working on a test infobox for boroughs of Hamburg. While {{Infobox German Location}} does not yet offer complete support for town subdivisions (it's something i'm still working on), a possible temporary solution for locations within Hamburg is to use Infobox German Location with "state = Hamburg" or "Bundesland = Hamburg" (the template uses both German and English variable names) Since Hamburg is a state as well as a city, this is technically not incorrect. It's not a perfect solution, but a good temporary and simple one. If you use this infobox in this manner, then it will be easier for me to repair it when I come up with a better solution. 52 Pickup (deal) 18:06, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

Hi. I've tried "German Location" for Hamburg-Bahrenfeld and the only thing I dislike is "automaticly adding catogories" ... My purpose is to create an infobox, but also acceptable for neighborhoods and streets (I know there are infoboxes for streets). I'm still working and, if I find a good resolution, I will ask you before adding my infobox to wikitemplates. I've seen "Infobox Frankfurt Stadtteil" too and IMHO it's not very nice.
Hamburg location is a "working name". I hope my template will suit for all cities. Greetings. Sebastian scha. (talk) 18:22, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
This is the code I would like in the later template:
|-
| colspan="2" style="background:#D8E2EF; vertical-align: middle;" |   <div style="float:left;width:45px;">{{#ifeq:{{{of_city_coa|}}} |
  | [[Image:Sin escudo.svg|30px|center|No coat of arms]] </div>
  | [[Image:{{{of_city_coa|}}}|30px|center|Coat of arms of {{{of_city}}}]] </div>}} {{#if:{{{type|}}}
   | '''{{{type}}}'''
   | '''A part of '''}} {{#if:{{{article_|}}}
   | '''{{{article_}}}'''
 | '''the city of'''}} <br>'''{{{of_city}}}'''
|-
  • of_city_coa, Coat of arms of the adminstrative city (e.g. coat_Hamburg.svg)
  • type, type of location (e.g. District) Disrict / Bezirk, Quarter / Stadtteil, Area = Bereich, non govermental area, Neighborhood / Viertel = Bereich, non govermental area, street = Strasse (e.g. Street) / park = Park or recreation area (e.g. Park) (or use Template:Infobox_park)
  • article_, article for the header with the main city
  • of_city, name of the administrative city (e.g. Berlin) Infobox German Location it is city Stadt.

If you want to come up with a different template for subdivisions of German locations, then I would be very happy. It has been on my Long List Of Things To Do for a very long time, but I have never gotten around to it. I am also not 100% satisfied that something like Infobox Frankfurt Stadtteil is the way to go, but maybe something similar. Either way, I am convinced that a separate template is needed.
German Location was originally intended to only go down as far as the Gemeinde level (city, town, municipality) and not divisions of them (villages, boroughs, etc.). This is why categorisation works fine at the Gemeinde level and why it is not suitable for locations within the states of Hamburg or Berlin (Hamburg and Berlin themselves use Infobox German Bundesland).
Some changes were made to the template to half-accommodate for these sub-locations after the template was added to a lot of such articles, but they were never considered permanent. See Rückers for an example of its use - there are a number of undocumented variables/values used there that prevent categorisation for such locations. This is not documented because, as I said, this template is not really designed for this sort of thing and I didn't want it to be used too much.
So go for it. If I can help at all, just ask. 52 Pickup (deal) 20:00, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
I think the template is okay so far, perhaps you are able to have a look (and a few suggestions?), thanks a lot. Sebastian scha. (talk) 04:37, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
Sorry for the late response - I'm not really active here any more. Your current version looks pretty good, although (looking at your Altona example) there are some things that you could probably remove. First, it is not necessary to say "Altona" twice at the top - the two name fields are to be used only if the German name is different to the English one. Next, saying "Quarter of the city of Hamburg" plus saying "State: Hamburg, City: Hamburg" is a little repetative. Next, I'm not sure if the Germany map is needed there, since the location dot will not move too much for Hamburg suburbs - but maybe I'm wrong there. There are a number of other pieces of information that could be removed if box size becomes a problem, but not necessary.
Perhaps for these city subdivisions, the generic {{Infobox Settlement}} might be more suitable. That template is used for lots of locations around the world (Infobox German Location is separate only because it allows users to copy information directly from the de-wiki). Maybe you should try that template, if only to give you some new ideas. Keep up the good work. 52 Pickup (deal) 11:32, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

Altona and Denmark

Hello Sebastian scha. You are right in saying that Schleswig-Holstein was ruled by the Danish kings, but this does not mean that the duchies were part of Denmark(-Norway). The relationship was merely a personal union with an agreement of mutual defensive aid, and the duchies were never annexed into Denmark (attempts to bond the duchies closer to Denmark were made with the two constitutions of 1849 and 1863, which sparked the two Wars of Schleswig). Hope this cleared things out. Regards, Hestemand (talk) 06:44, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

Gauliga Nordmark

Yes, I know the map is from before 1933, however, it is the best I could find to show Germany in 1933. To my knowledge, only Waldeck has changed from this map to 1933. A compromise, I guess. If you do have a better one, let me know. I've created quite a few Gauliga articles and it would come handy. I noticed you come from Hamburg (never been there!) and therefore you might be interested to know, that the article on the Eimsbütteler TV, a very prominent club from this era, consisted of exactly one sentence. I'm just now trying to improve that, if you got anything to add, be my guest! Have fun, all the best, EA210269 (talk) 05:09, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

I managed to find a fair bit about the club. No worries, und dir auch einen schönen Tag! EA210269 (talk) 05:51, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
