Managing a conflict of interest

Hello, SeafordSociety. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

• avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
• propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
• disclose your COI when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
• avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
• do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

COI

Hello all,

We may have a conflict of interest; I am not sure. We are a volunteer organization and therefore all members are both volunteers and representatives.

I was attempting to add some material to the pages representing our Society since they are stubs; I have read the COI page and understand the implications I may be running. If these changes are in error because of a potential COI please let me know, I will delete everything and move on.

Hello. You do not necessarily need to delete everything, but you do need to follow the instructions above to request a new username and to be unblocked. You then need to clearly declare your COI on your userpage; if you are editing as a member of your society or at it's behest, you have a COI. Going forward, you should make edit requests for any changes you want to make, which will need to be supported with independent reliable sources (WP:RS). 331dot (talk) 15:49, 19 April 2018 (UTC)
