- I noticed all your excellent edits to Louis-Joseph Papineau and wanted to personally say hello and thank you for your contributions to the encyclopedia. Netherzone (talk) 13:21, 4 June 2021 (UTC)
Yes, thank you for the edits on Papineau snd now on Parizeau. However, you’re using the same explanation for all your edits: “#1lbref”, I think. The edit box is meant to give some indication as to the nature of your edits, and using exactly the same ambiguous code phrase for all edits doesn’t tell other editors what the edit is about. Please use a descriptive edit for each edit you make. Thanks! Mr Serjeant Buzfuz (talk) 14:22, 5 June 2021 (UTC)
#1lib1ref
editReferences added for the #1Lib1Ref (15th May to 5th June 2021) Challenge.
You have to mention #1lib1ref so it can be counted in the stats by wikipedia for the contest. "#1Lib1Ref is an event launched by the Wikimedia Foundation and which aims to invite librarians around the world to add sources to Wikipedia! IFLA is delighted to promote and support libraries’ efforts to get involved in this campaign."
- Thank you for your response, Scully1181, and great to know about this library initiative! Maybe you could add a more descriptive edit summary in the future, such as "#1lib1ref - reference" or something similar so that other editors moving forward can better understand your contributions? Or would that disrupt the ability to count your contributions? Occasionally I participate in the Women in Red WikiProject edit-a-thons, and we usually tag the talk pages. But every initiative is different. In case you haven't seen this, here is a quick reference guide to some "short cut" edit summaries that pretty much everyone understands: Wikipedia:Edit summary legend/Quick reference; it has helped me save time if I'm doing a lot of editing. Also, please sign your posts on article talk pages (or your own talk page, altho that's not required) by adding four tilde's ~~~~. That way other editors will know who made the comment. I hope you enjoy your time on Wikipedia, and keep coming back! Netherzone (talk) 19:27, 5 June 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks for explaining, Scully1181. I didn't know about that challenge - you've certainly contributed! But looking at the links, I don't think it means "only put 1lib1ref". For example, in the French Wikipedia article on the challenge, it says "Lorsque vous ajoutez une référence à un article, assurez-vous d'inclure le hashtag #1Lib1Ref dans le résumé de modification afin que nous puissions suivre les participations." Similarly, the article at the wikimedia library page says: "When you edit, make sure to include the hashtag #1Lib1Ref in the edit summary." Given the importance of explaining edits in the edit summary box, and the use of the words "inclure" and "include", I would read that the goal is to include the 1Lib1Ref tag in the edit summary, in addition to the normal explanation of the edit.
