Previous AfD vote

Hi. You previously voted in an AfD for Tim Bowles. Would you please pop over to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Tim Bowles (3rd nomination) and give us your input again? Thanks. --Justanother 20:23, 13 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

The block

I find that you have blocked one Masterbobo. I do not understand the exact reasons for blocking that user - will you block all users who use pictures with caption not intended towards someone in particular. There may be 100s of similar examples in wikipedia. I would request you to please re-consider your decision. He has done better edits than the two complaints against him. And, his first two days on wikipedia was better than most of us perhaps. Regards. --Bhadani (talk) 18:33, 15 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

In my opinion, when he talked with the banned user for the first time, the user was not banned. Moreover, when he talked with him today, Aksi has not put the banned notice on the talk page and so he may have carried a monologue. The problem here is that an old editor like Mr Dab can get away even if he calls me a troll in September 2006 one year after I became an administrator, but a new user is not given any consideration. In case, you want to keep that user banned, it is your wish - but several established users have used even worse words against me. Will you ban all of them. Please review your ban and please do not get laid by the words of another user as he complained against me. --Bhadani (talk) 18:42, 15 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
I had seen all these edits before I recommended that he should not be blocked. There are many such images and comments circulating in wikipedia. We can not allow all such users to be blocked. Many users have user boxes which are illegal if viewed in India iner IT Act 2000. Are you going to block and ban all of them? Many may be illegal under laws of different countries. Are we going to block all of them? --Bhadani (talk) 18:46, 15 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Fine, as you wish. Perhaps, he will again surface in some other form :) --Bhadani (talk) 18:48, 15 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
For a decision taken by you, I am not going to ANI for further consensus. Perhaps, you may be right. In any case, for last one year, I am not doing anything on wikipedia, and I find that it is no longer a place to be around. Most of my energies are now devoted to Wikias and I am administrator of four wikias. --Bhadani (talk) 18:52, 15 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Sorry Samir. But, I have reconsidered my opinion and have asked for a wider participation in the issue: [1]. Regards. --Bhadani (talk) 19:44, 15 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

I have been asked to give my opinion. I think we should give this editor a chance. Blocking indefinitely may be too final here, although I do see why this was considered and acted on. --Tony Sidaway 23:22, 15 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

RfA

I feel honoured by the nomination. :) As for schedules--some time in the middle of May is best. When I write my answers to the RfA... I want to spend a bit of time. Also, I don't want to be thinking about a RfA whilst doing my exams. Nephron  T|C 02:43, 16 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Free/libre & open access sources - edits & reversions on WP:CITE

I'd be interested in your thoughts on free/libre & open access sources (FLOAS). I added some stuff to WP:CITE about free sources (see [2]) following discussion, after getting majority agreement on the talk page.[3]

Since that time... it has been at the centre of some contention. SlimVirgin reverted it.[4] I didn't find any discussion on the talk page about this. So, I left a message on SlimVirgin's talk page,[5][6] to which I did not get a response. I decided to re-added the section. SlimVirgin reverted it again several weeks ago. [7] Again, I did not find discussion. Again, I left her a message on her talk.[8] Again, I did not find a reply. I then discussed this with Davidruben.{discussion}, who decided to re-add the changes to WP:CITE. SlimVirgin removed the section a third time[9]... whereas this time she posted a message[10] on the talk page after deleting. I didn't pick up on the message until yesterday.

I'm looking for more input. The original discussion only had about half a dozen people... and whilst I solicited more{message in doc's mess}-- they weren't forthcoming. I'm most interested about what you think about the idea of FLOAS. Also, I'd be curious to know what your awareness is about the GFDL and the GPL--from which its need directly grew.

Personally, I see the promotion of FLOAS on Wikipedia as just being consistent--being consistent with the philosophy behind the GFDL and the GPL[11] and the goals of Wikipedia ("...a world in which every single person on the planet is given free access to the sum of all human knowledge. That’s what we’re doing." -Jimbo Wales [12]). Richard Stallman's idealism is to use non-free software only when there is no available free software to do the task. The equivalent, in the context of Wikipedia, would be to say "... use only non-free sources when no free sources are are available." Being pragmatic, I think an excellent non-FLOAS still ought to be used. That said, I think Wikipedia should have Stallman's idealism in mind--and have it offical policy to encourage use of reliable FLOAS. Nephron  T|C 03:53, 16 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Indian collaboration of the week news

As mentioned in Wikiproject India newsletter of March 2007, the weekly collaboration of the Indian wikiproject has fallen from its once high feats. This message is to request the users to visit the collaboration page and help rejuvenate it.

The present collaboration of the week is Religion in India. Please go through the talk page of the article to see the proposed changes in the article. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 18:40, 17 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Nice to see that things are well. Hopefully you shouldn't have any problem now. I have semester end exams coming up. So will be editing sporadically. Will write to you later. Cheers! - Aksi_great (talk) 04:50, 18 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Glad to see you're back, Samir, and yes the surgery was successful. My heart has already started to shrink back to a normal size. =) Nishkid64 21:53, 21 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Hey welcome back Samir! Looks like we co-ordinated our breaks so at least now I have someone who is as ignorant as I am about the wiki-happenings in the last two months so kudos to that! ;) Cheers --Srikeit 16:50, 25 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
