Sathya Sai Baba

edit

Hello User:Sailpra. I am one of the editor working in the Sathya Sai Baba article.

  • Being new to wikipedia please familiarize yourself with the wikipedia policies NPOV, BLP rules as well as earlier source discussions. To contribute to wikipedia its important that you follow wikipedia rules and guidelines.
  • Please always discuss your changes in the talk page however small it is before modifying it in the article. Please avoid edit-warring with other editors. Wikipedia article changes are all made based on consensus from all the editors.
  • Please avoid using Primary Sources. In this BLP, Primary sources refer to books written by devotees. Infact earlier the whole Biography section was rewritten using scholarly sources. We removed all the Primary Sources. Reliable Secondary sources or scholarly materials are preferred because they present a neutral and more acceptable encyclopedic view for a wider audience. Changes that are made using secondary sources is likely to remain in wikipedia over time. Thanks Radiantenergy (talk) 02:12, 23 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thank you. I wanted to contact you on this. Actually I am getting familiarized with the rules. But I have added primary sources not for Baba's miracles etc. I had added primary sources for the new name of the university and its campuses and the new walk for values that was held recently. That was the reason I felt bad about. Because the university website comes under University Grants Commission's jurisdiction. I was also feeling that people are again trying to make this article like the one earlier in the sense that they have changed Miracles to Claims without any discussion. And are they not answerable? If this becomes a war like thing I am not for it. I better be silent than fight here! Thank you.Sailpra (talk) 06:24, 23 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

  • Usually its not a war here. Other editors are reasonable as long as every thing is discussed / explained first in the talk page. Due to the edit-warring in the last few days its possible that other editors may not pay attention to your arguments. In the future if you want to change take 1 issue / change at a time discuss that change with all the editors in the talk page. Wait for other's feedback and then change the article.
  • Its may be tedious but that's how changes are made here. For instance one user proposed that we replace all the primary sources with Scholarly sources in the Biography - it took almost 2 months to accomplish that task after several rounds of discussions. But the quality of the article has become better since then. Nothing can be changed over night in the article. If changes are made that way then it may not stay too long in the article.
  • Also if you have an issue with an editor directly resolve it by communicating with that person in their talk page. Clearing misunderstandings and being polite goes a long way here. Wikipedia records history of every edit made by every user. Its a good practice to always provide user edit history links whereever possible to validate your argument in the talk page or user page discussions. Your input was very useful. Sorry for the edits made without a discussion. I am learning this anyway. Sure I will be patiently particpating in the discussions on any of the edits. I will happy to do that even if takes forever.Sailpra (talk) 19:05, 23 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

I have been working on the article as well, not so much lately though. The problem is that wikipedia is not a good source of information on certain subjects, one of them being Sathya Sai Baba. Holy figures always have fierce enemies and today we have the internet where these enemies can spit their venom. In the name of fair and balanced Wikipedia, always has to show an objective viewpoint. The problem is that the reality is such that there is no "other" side to Baba, yet there are opposing views and unfortunately have to be included in the article. The article is 100 times better than it was last year. It's still not anywhere close to accurately portraying Sathya Sai Baba as he truly is. Sbs108 (talk) 03:17, 6 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Your constant false claims

edit

Please cease making false statements about the edit history on the Sai Baba article. I don't appreciate it that you are blatantly mispresenting things. A bit of honesty on your part would be a good thing. Afterwriting (talk) 10:41, 23 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

I am sorry if I hurt you at any point. In my previous 5 edits I retained your change. That is what I meant. I am not so bad to prove myself correct. I apolozise if I hurt your mental stature. I am anyway learning. Thats very positive thing! I hope you are also learning. Sailpra (talk) 19:07, 23 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
