I'm trying to get rid of all the citations that point to an organization's own website, and all websites that are not news or books for that matter, so that one day when these articles finally make it to good article territory, no one will be able to slap an unreliable sources label on them. All a part of trying to get more articles to good article status. Was able to get "Fill in Portal Libertarianism" off of the project task list, but that is all so far. Thanks for your help on Baldy Harper and Institute for Humane Studies. Those pages are really moving up in quality.

Dealing with Shenanigans

Hey Safe, you said you were looking for any help you could get, so I figured I'd drop you a line. At User_talk:114.73.106.168, rather than telling him to use better grammar, you might have benefited more from trying to engage in dialogue about Marc's faith. People from all over the world contribute to the English Wikipedia and subsequently, not all of them have good grammar. But even without a good knowledge of the English language/good grammar, they can still contribute good information (though it might need to be spruced up a bit for spelling/grammar). I don't want to step in and put you down (as I have made numerous mistakes in the past), but the IP was actually correct in the fact that he is Jewish. It happens...whether by a mistaken belief or an error. Information gets jumbled up and it certainly isn't a big deal. You two were then engaged in an editwar which certainly doesn't resolve the issue or help anyone. Always assume good faith. This means to never instinctively revert or argue with someone as though they were intending to be malicious in their editing. There are times when it is obvious, but for issues like the one there, it's best to resolve it through a discussion either on user talk pages or the article's talk page. ACTA

I got your message on ACTA changes. The first issue, my deletion of the "Second Lady" reference, is fairly trivial--when the organization was founded, Lynne Cheney was not the Second Lady and would not become such for quite some time. Therefore, it is incorrect to refer to her as the "Second Lady" when describing the founding of ACTA. The second issue is a bit more complicated. I was going to put a "citation needed" placeholder while searching for a specific document to fill that role, but apparently forgot. The "conservative" denomination is non-controversial--aside from Joe Lieberman, who is usually described as a moderate or conservative (former) Democrat, the rest of the group's leadership has had Republican allegiances. All issues in the organization's philosophy have been derived from the conservative movement. A cynic would argue, in fact, that the organization's sole purpose was to provide a thinly-veiled academic cover for pushing the conservative agenda. I was the one to slap the POV tag on that baby more than once, although others did it too. Sourcing from internal literature is a major source of concern, but it had been worse before--some of the editing was done from inside the organization, which is a big no-no. The edit reduced the section to one sentence. I don't see how this massive delete helps educate an article reader more by removing all of that information. Maybe rewording into a paragraph or two instead of a list would make sense, using a selection of the more famous authors, but I don't see how just deleting the whole thing improves the article.--Abel (talk) 02:51, 5 June 2012 (UTC)

I think that every organization gets to a point where you can't reasonably list out all of their publications/products, and that SFL's page was at that point. It would be like including a list of every policy panel Cato has ever hosted–it just gets overcrowded after a point. Also, webinars don't strike me as being as lasting a a product as a book. The article was overloaded, and it also wasn't up to date. SFL is likely still doing webinars, and so adding the most recent webinars would cause the page to get even longer. It would make more sense to include a list if the webinars mentioned had been referenced in the media, and not just on SFL's own website (I think that SFL has a list of past webinars on their website, and it would be reasonable to link to that list from the Wikipedia page–I will look into that). Perhaps some of the webinars have been mentioned in third-party sources, and it might make more sense to include those. Do you agree? Safehaven86 (talk) 03:06, 5 June 2012 (UTC)

Scott Rasmussen

Hello, Safehaven86. I am a recognized expert on polling data and predictions. My system, which uses the median poll result instead of the average, out-performed Nate Silver's system in both 2008 and 2012. I believe it is vital that accurate information about the quality of polling be made public so that the free market has a chance to correct the industry.

2012 was a year when the most active companies did a good to great job of predicting, the most remarkable success belonging to the Democratic pollster Public Policy Polling picking 33 of 33 winners in polls released in the final week. Almost every busy company underpolled the Democratic turnout with the exception of Zogby, who overpolled the Democratic lead by 3.4%. Most companies over-estimated the Republican lead by one or two percentage points, but Rasmussen stood out from the crowd by over-estimating the Republican advantage by 4.1%, only calling 5 of 11 races correctly. The only other busy company with anywhere near as bad a final week was Pulse Opinion Research, over-estimating Republicans by and average of 4.2%, calling 6 of 9 races correctly.

The similar results for these two companies are not coincidence, since Rasmussen does not conduct polls in-house, instead contracting out to Pulse Opinion.
