Beatles News George Harrison's handwritten lyrics to the song While My Guitar Gently Weeps have fetched $300,000 (£152,552) in a Scottsdale (Arizona, United States) memorabilia auction (15 January). It contained lines omitted from the final version of the song. Specifically : I look from the wings at the play you are staging While my guitar gently weeps As I'm sitting here doing nothing but aging Still my guitar gently weeps On the reverse of the page appears the lyrics to Hey Jude in the hand of Mal Evans. Project News The Project lead article (The Beatles, for those not paying attention) has had its Good Article status reviewed, and the consensus was 'keep'. The efforts of User:Andreasegde in supplying the requested citations, and other editors in helping with general editing, and the strength of arguments for retaining the grade sufficiently impressed the reviewers. After a great deal of work Paul McCartney was promoted as a Featured Article candidate. Unfortunately it failed to succeed. Among other comments, including the correct length of dash (or hyphen), from reviewers was that the article was too long and also that it needed further information included in some of the sections(!?) The promotor, and driving force behind the insertion of a great many references, citations and facts (and the remover of unwanted text, and splitter of information into daughter articles), Andreasegde vigorously argued the case for promotion but was unsuccessful. Mimi Smith was successfully nominated for WP:Good article status. The major editor to whom accolades should be directed is... Andreasegde. Two new articles have been listed in the Project Log since 1 January: The Beatles' Influence on Recording Music by Apepper and Wings 1973 UK Tour by Danthemankhan. Eruption257 has adopted the A Spaniard in the Works article. The hottest Project page this month was possibly, despite the Article Status related issues regarding both The Beatles and Paul McCartney mentioned above, the third attempt to delete The Beatles trivia in less than a year. As was the case for the second attempt at AfD the result, after an energetic discourse, was keep but with a suggestion that the article be retitled to reduce the incidence of deletion requests. Editors are invited to discuss possible new titles, and/or the need for same, at Talk:The Beatles trivia. Other Project news - Lar did a bit of a purge of the subscription list during last month's newsletter delivery. Some folks were kept (and are at the active list), some who clearly are not active on wikipedia at all were removed with a "you've been removed" message left (and are at the inactive list), and some folks who were less active but not as clearly completely inactive were given a "this may be your last newsletter" message (and are at the possibly inactive list). A more nuanced subscription list is now here (in several subpages as outlined above), and anyone who wants to tweak their status (moving one's self back is a clear cut sign that we should deliver the newsletter to you!) should feel free. Please respect the rather spartan formatting though, this list is used by WP:AWB currently, and may be used by other automation in future.	Issue of the Month Hottest issue or concern for this month is the perennial matter of Project articles losing their Good or Featured Article status. The main Project page now includes a status board that gives the current ratings of some of the more important articles. Let's make sure the core articles (The Beatles, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr) reach or retain Good Article status, if not Featured Article. If you are aware of another major article whose status is at risk, add it to the board. Issue of last Month Since there has been no response in the matter of the use of lowercase for the initial letter of the when applied with Beatles from the opponents, it is likely that the case for using lowercase only will be adopted as Project policy by default. Amy Fisher page copyright issue

This is very interesting. I certainly recognize the text that's on the Bio page of the [http://amyelizabethfisher.com/bio.html amyelizabethfisher.com] website. It's almost exactly what I wrote for the Wikipedia page back in September 2005, which you've spotted. I don't know if the amyelizabethfisher.com website even existed back then - I suspect it didn't becuase I'm sure I'd have found it while Google searching information for the article if it had; but until you pointed it out to me I've never come across this website. I think it must be fairly new. I certainly didn't copy anything from it into the Wikipedia article. It appears that the website has lifted the text of the Wikipedia page and used it as their bio. My sources of information when I edited the article were another Amy Fisher website - www.amyfisher.com - which was alreday listed as an external link in the article before I edited it; and a few news articles I found on the web, most notably www.crimelibrary.com/notorious_murders/young/amy_fisher, which I added as an extra external link at the article when I edited it. Rouge Editor Propol

Dear administrator: Please look into this editor who is constantly uncivil and disruptive on the Peter Roskam article with unfounded claims every editor who disagrees with his agenda and point of view is a sock puppet. Also, this editor removes from his talk page any entry he feels that is negative to him even though it is true. [2] It would appear this editor is an untouchable, protected and operates without any sort of discipline or concern for his actions. Since this editor is so focused on sock puppets I submit that these two editors Propol and Goethean operate as sock puppets.

Beatles News On February 5, 2007, the Beatles' Apple Corps and Apple, Inc. (Apple Computer) announced a settlement of their latest trademark dispute involving use of the Apple trademark on the iTunes Music Store. In May of 2006, the High Court ruled in favor of Apple, but Neil Aspinall, manager of Apple Corps, vowed to appeal. Evidently, in the intervening months, the two companies negotiated a settlement. The settlement is discussed in this AP story. For background on the case, see Apple Corps v. Apple Computer. For fans, this may mean that Beatle music will be available someday on iTunes. Despite rumors of a February 2007 release, the material is still unavailalble. The divorce case between Paul McCartney and his estranged wife Heather Mills McCartney has begun with a preliminary hearing in the London High Court on March 1, 2007. See the McCartneys Have Their First Court Date. Chronicle Books has reissued I, Me, Mine, the 1980 George Harrison autobiography. See details in the editors page Project News The articles Freddie Lennon, Julia Lennon, Mimi Smith, Neil Aspinall and Mal Evans have all been promoted to Good Article status. The identity of the individual largely responsible for this outcome remains a mystery, but anyone correctly identifying said person will be treated to dinner with Sir Sean de Garde (cost of meal, air tickets, hotel and trips to houses of ill-repute will be borne by the Mighty Crestville). There were no Project article adoptions for the month of February. One new article has been listed in the Project Log since 1 February; namely The New World Tour, relating to the 1993 World Tour by Paul McCartney, created by the Project's Macca/Wings tours resident expert Danthemankhan. The hottest Project pages this month have been.... Julia Lennon, Freddie Lennon, Neil Aspinall, and Mal Evans, which are now all GA, and Mimi Smith, which has been peer reviewed to see if it could be FA. Project Policy has now been altered to reflect that the use of lowercase for the letter "t" of the word "the" in the Beatles is now considered the correct rendition. WP:UW future?

Hi Rogerd,

Sorry for the blatant spam, but you have yourself down as interested at WikiProject user warnings WP:UW. There is a discussion on going here that might be of interest to you about the future of this project. There are two strawpolls on the talk pages and the second one is about the future of the WP:UW project. Now we have the end in sight we are looking at wrapping up the project and merging it with Template messages/User talk namespace WP:UTM and creating a one stop shop for all userspace templates. As you have yourself down as interested in this project we thought you may have some input on this issue, and would like you to visit the discussion and give any thoughts you may have on the matter. Yeah, {{PermissionAndFairUse}} might well have covered it. Sadly, the user didn't upload it as PermissionAndFairUse, as you will have seen when you looked at the deleted image's history (here).

As you know, the user uploaded it as a straight, automatically-marked, CSD#I3-listed, "non-commercial or Wikipedia-only" image. Which, as you are aware, is incompatible with Wikipedia and is immediately deletable. This was, of course, clear to you when you checked the history of the image before you wrote to me so I can't add much more the the existing Wikipedia policy, although the deletion log has a clear link to the policy and my talk page has a clear FAQ flagged at the top of it, as you saw.

As for the claims of WP:BITE, well, I'm sure you wish to withdraw such a serious allegation after further review.

Reference to Renaming Images

In reference to your comments:

"When you upload an image, please save it to wikipedia with a meaningful name. For instance, the name image:Vc37.jpg may have been meaningful to the LOC, but it means nothing to us. For all intents and purposes, there is no Wiki guildelines or directives that discuss the explicit directions pertaining to the naming of image files. Therefore, if you personally feel that you must change the names of the image and want to take the additional steps to add the image to the Wikimedia Commons than by all means, feel free to make the appropriate changes. Again, if you personally feel that you need to make those changes, then go for it. If you think it is such a hassle on your part and you want to be a "hero" and maintain "proper" names of all image files--then you're gonna have your work cut out for yourself. I suggest you get started because you're gonna be here for awhile making all those appropriate changes, just a friendly suggestion. It was also announced that another long term dispute, this time with EMI over royalties, had been amicably settled prior to Aspinall's departure.[3][4] Project News The article "Jeff Jones (music industry executive)" suddenly becomes of top importance in the Apple sphere of Beatledom. User:Kingboyk has created a stub on the man, but the article needs urgent beefing up (including basic biographical data such as date and place of birth) and, if possible, a photograph of the new Apple chief executive. Mimi Smith promises to have the last word over John yet again; her article is currently a Featured Article Candidate. Brian Epstein is a current GA candidate. See the Status board for more article news. 2 new articles have been listed in the Project Log since 1 March: Tony Barrow and Jeff Jones (music industry executive). I've visited the links and they're about as biased, misinformative, and unconstructive as you could imagine. Hi there. I appologize for not using the European date style in the Queen's article. Again, I'm sorry. I was the one who recently added a large paragraph on the Queen's most recent (and current) trip abroad, but if you read it, you will notice that it not only mentions the latest and current trip, but also a trip that she took to California in 1983 with President and Mrs. Ronald Reagan, which was not mentioned before. • Why is this an issue? The purpose of enclosing the dates in double brackets (i.e., [[Month Day]] [[Year]] or [[Day Month]] [[Year]]) is so dates display according to the individual user's preferences. Thus, "April 23" will appear as "23 April" if that's the date format preferred. JGHowes ^talk - 14:38, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

Because many logged in users and all anonymous (IP) users have no date preferences set. Remember, this encyclopedia is primarily for the readers, not the editors.
