慕尼黑大学附属医院是德国乃至欧洲最大的医院之一。自1999年10月1日起，医院从组织、财务和行政上正式独立于慕尼黑大学（全名：Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München 路德维希 - 马克西米利安大学）。
慕尼黑大学附属医院包括： 市中心院区（Innenstadt） 和大哈登院区（ Großhadern）两个院区。它是继柏林夏洛蒂医院（Berliner Charité ）后德国的第二大的三级医院（ Krankenhäuser der III. Versorgungsstufe）。
自2006年6月起，慕尼黑大学附属医院成为公共福利机构，这使得其在经济上有更多的自主权和决定空间。在科研和教学方面，慕尼黑大学附属医院与慕尼黑大学有紧密的合作。
