Art Hodgins edit
A "{{prod}}" template has been added to the article Art Hodgins, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but yours may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. - KrakatoaKatie 06:28, 11 June 2007 (UTC)
- Hello - thanks for the message. I proposed the article for deletion because I don't think it meets the notability standard for people as a notable athlete. It's not personal, and I'm sure your father means as much to you as mine does to me – but it's not a good idea to write articles on subjects with which you have a conflict of interest. It can skew your perception of the person.
- If you want the article to remain (and there's no solid guarantee that it will), you need to impartially judge the subject against the notability standard. Cite third-party, reliable sources for others to see and confirm. You cannot use yourself as a source for any article _unless_ your statements are included in a published book/journal/magazine/interview – then you can cite that source. Write in a neutral tone in the third person – take out the "he was the best at this" and "the master of that" and other such statements that indicate opinion over solid fact. Are there articles on contemporaries of Art Hodgins? If so, link to them.
- The tutorial and the other links in my welcome message will help you. Also, WikiProject Biography has a good how-to guide for biographies. Take a look at the articles on other athletes and impartially judge your subject against them, although their inclusion is not a valid argument for keeping your article.
- Review the policies and guidelines I've linked to in this message and my welcome message, and keep them in mind when you rewrite the article. If your father's career is notable and if the article is sourced and written correctly, it will stand up on its own in a deletion discussion. If it's not, it won't. Again, if it is nominated for deletion, please don't take it personally, because it's not.
