Regarding Kanchivaram (and other things) edit

Message for Universal Hero: Hi Ganesh, I have deleted Kanchivaram from the 2009 list for Tamil films. It is already in the 2008 list, where I added it some days back. Listing it for 2009 would be factually incorrect. Even the Wikipedia article refers to it as a 2008 film :-)

Perhaps we should look at revising these year-wise lists to say Tamil films 'released in xxxx'. As a member of the FTPG, I have access to the complete published list, month by month. We could look at revising the lists together if you are up to it, starting with October 2009 and working backwards. Let me know.  REINCARNUT  (I'm over here) - You gotta do what you gotta do. 03:53, 5 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi, thanks for the query. As per usual, we use the official "Tamil Nadu Films" page at [1] to produce a list of films from the certain year. And as per normal logic, we add the film when it got released commercially, as that's when most reviews are released and publicity is garnered. A few examples in the past have been Paruthiveeran, censored and sent for National Awards in 2006, when it was released in February 2007. Similiarly Naan Kadavul, was censored in 2008, but only released in 2009. Furthermore, if we were to do what you had suggested, yet to be released but completed films such as Vivek's Solli Adippaen and Prashanth's Pulan Visaranai II would be anomalies. It's best to leave it as it is, I accepted your Onan page as an anomaly, because you seemed like a reliable editor.

Thanks for editing. And I'm not "Ganesh". Universal Hero (talk) 18:46, 5 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the note. Although the tamilnadufilms.com page contains similar information, there is "nothing official about it" (pun intended!). It is a commercial website of a trade journal similar to say Variety Entertainment. The 'official' publications are the gazettes and bulletins. In any case, there are two lists that are published - one is a list of films that are censored, and another is a list of films that are released. Just as you have noted, sometimes there is a considerable gap between censoring and release dates of movies. In my note, I am talking only about the films that are released, not just censored. A limited release is still a release! Just like someone says 'every film deserves to have an article' :-)
One way to resolve any technical confusion would be to change list titles to say films that were 'released theatrically' or something. At least we should say that they are not complete lists. What do you say?  REINCARNUT  (I'm over here) - You gotta do what you gotta do. 06:40, 8 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Arivazhagan Venkatachalam edit

A tag has been placed on Arivazhagan Venkatachalam requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you.
